Geoff CB reacted to Zak Forsman in Short Film Festivals
That's because most films that get fee waivers have been invited to submit -- either because the festival is familiar with the film already (because they saw it at another fest or its got a high profile for whatever reason), or it's from a filmmaker who the've programmed movies from in the past. That's why the odds are better.
Now, knowing that, if you've got a short film and have never played a film festival before -- something to consider is choosing festivals you would want to build a relationship with. Imagine two filmmakers submitting to SXSW. One is a first time filmmaker submitting their very first feature. The other is also submitting their first feature, but they've also had three short films at SXSW over the last five years. If the festival programmers were split on these two hypothetical movies and their was only one slot left in the program, who do you think is getting in? Festivals love returning filmmakers.
That being said, it never hurts to ask for a fee waiver. The worst they an say is "no".

Zach is spot on. You didn't say what kind of product it is (I pray it's not a car, then you're probably way over your head) but usually what really counts for product photos is the lighting, you'll probably want to shoot with manually set strobes (at least 1 + reflector but probably more). Focus on that, camera isn't really important, you'll manually focus anyway so all the technical bells & whistles are pretty much useless.
I'd shoot with the SIGMA 50-100mm on APS-C from a tripod with whatever has a nice flippy screen or you can also tether to a tablet or computer. Shoot RAW and edit in Lightroom. Done.

It just make me like the A7sII/A7Rii, 4k in full frame with unlimited recording and the same body size. That's a good thing about sony, you get a full frame which is the size of an aps-c from Fuji, or an aps-c which is the size of an m43 from olympus. Of course, downsides: price and overheating. However, overheating is solved on the A7x cameras. Hopefully the next generation of a6xxx will solve this problem too.

Some good samples here, skin tone is great. The video's A6300 sections are TERRIBLE, Jordan needs to start using LUT's with his S-log footage.

man this thread is disgusting, getting enjoyment from someone being scammed and a long time respected member either behind it or worse being publicly shamed and accused while they themselves might be victims as well. So all of you can enjoy this, savor the misfortune of others and continue to concoct your wild theories. If someone hacks my account is this what is in store for me too? How about all of you? I would remind you that this isn't a movie, there are real lives involved and non of us know what really happened.

The last paragraph in that Facebook response is the most telling...
"But you already know that you're powerless right now to do anything to regain your money from someone you know nothing about his/her name, whereabouts, age, occupation, phone number, nothing, and that's why you're freaking out"
It would seem as though this person is admitting that he is not Ebrahim, I think I believe Ebrahim... What would he have to gain? Unless he came onto this board years ago with every intent of playing the long con to swindle a relatively small amount of money. Unlikely.

At least give him a chance to give his side of the story
The guy with the facebook post only has 9 posts and the OP 35 posts, yet it is all being taken as gospel (i'm not accusing either of you of lying, but it can happen).... I'm in no way taking sides here, If he did do it ... He deserves plenty of abuse, but think rationally first. It is not too hard to imagine that there are scammers out there who actively seek out these sort of "For Sale" sub forums and hack the account of the person in their country with the highest post number.
It is also not unfeasable to imagine that someone could get pissed at an online user for something and set up a couple of account to destroy his reputation around the internet. (Again, not accusing the OP here, just playing devil's advocate).

As bad as this is, in my opinion you should hold a bit back @Ed_David. I get the feeling we get back to medieval age when I read that we should "embarass him" and "destroy his reputation", especially since I get this dejavu with Philip Bloom.

Vimeo now supports free uploading of 1080p and 4k videos. Before they only did 720p. So they gave some, and then took some. They have to make money somehow without ads everywhere.

Hi Liam, Yes, I'm working on it. I need a week to post the work and the first Nx Speed Booster adapter.
Thanks John, It depends on what you want to achieve and what you are willing to pay. The film makers prefer manual control, this is possible with Nikon mount, this does not mean that you have to use only Nikon lenses, also sigma and many other brands use Nikon mount. You imagine the Samsung Nx1 With speed booster and Sigma 50mm 1.4 DG HSM Art lens...

Thank you Lucabutera, I will definitely fund a fundraiser for that adapter, Nikon mount probably the best mount ever invented, its so universal.
It would been cool if some of the people who tried working on an electronic Canon adapter for NX would join in the project if they are still around.

The a7rII doesn't overheat at all, the a6300 does. Its also not FF, which is what the OP wants.
All of the aps-c E mount bodies are plagued by overheating, I speak from experience as I've owned all of them since the Nex5, doesn't matter what it costs if it keeps shutting down mid shot. It's a fine tourist type camera, but it's incredibly unreliable as a workhorse 4k body, the A7rII can shoot all day without issue. Used a7rII bodies are in the $2500 range.
I'd own two a6300's if they didn't constantly shut down when shooting 4k, but that's just not the case. Maybe the XT2 doesn't suffer from the same problems with overheating, if so I'll give it a look.
    Cheers

I know Fotodiox has done a lot of high quality dumb adapters for the NX mount.

FF mode on the a7R II is very underrated. Under 3200 ISO I prefer it over S35 mode because it has far better rolling shutter performance.
    FF A7s 2 RS = 30 ms
    FF A7R 2 RS = 20 ms
    http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?303559-Measuring-rolling-shutter-put-a-number-on-this-issue!
It's just a bit soft, more like 3K than 4K. Video AF on the A7R 2 is vastly superior to the a7s 2.
I honestly think people should go for the a7r 2 unless you need the S-LOG monitoring features of the A7s 2.
Also for people that want to film in the dark, use a speed booster and use the S35 mode.
I would grab it at that price.

Every discussion between the two cameras have people falsely stating the a7 R 2 is unusable in full frame, when it really is not. It makes people reading threads think that they shooting full frame on the a7r 2 is not even an option.

    I never understand this.
Just because you shoot on Sony does not mean you have to shoot in S-LOG. Do people shooting the C100 always shoot in C-log? No they shoot in Wide DR or other modes as well. It's for if your using a colorist in post. Just shoot in Cine 1 and get a good look out of camera with some flexibility in post.

100% this. Many people tend to equate documentary with running around and grabbing what you can as it happens, but in reality there are plenty of documentaries that consist of lit, staged interviews, staged shots or re-enactments, establishing shots, slow-mo and B-roll that you can get a few shots at.
A music video could be a few shots of the band performing, or it could be a high-production value narrative-style video that's fully lit and with a large amount of support gear.
    As always.... it depends

The C300 is 6lbs with everything- side grip, top handle, screen, cards, battery. The UM4.6K is 5lbs before adding a viewfinder, top handle, big ol' V-lock battery (and mounting plate!), or cards.
The C300 takes regular CF cards- much cheaper than CFast- and at 50mbps, versus even whatever the lightest ProRes the Mini will do (~200mbps?), they'll go a lot farther.
This isn't even getting into low-light, battery run-time, or reliability issues, where the Canons will easily trump the BlackMagic.
"Just turning an ND filter" sounds great until you need no ND at all, and can't stop your shot because you're filming something that won't wait for you.
