  1. Am I the only one to find the greyish color skin to be kind of weird ??
  2. Interested to see how it compares to A7S or NX1 in terms of low light. Of course I don't expect it to come close to the A7S but who knows...
  3. Andrew its good to have you back ! As an early adopter of both the GH4 and NX1, I agree with everything written in your article. I only disagree on the part that Sony will crush Panasonic, as the price range of the A7R II is in a different league. Almost the league where you could get a Blackmagic URSA... I agree that most GH4 users are tired of waiting for the V-LOG, as the GH5 should be announced in the next few months. Maybe the market is also moving too fast. From both hardware and software perspectives.
  4. Maybe bringing down the sharpening (in camera) could help also to reduce this aliasing.
  5. Well I'm not so sure about that... And A7S users - a lot of them - use external recorder, so they actually record in PRORES... nothing like the heavy compression of H265. For those who don't use external recorder, the internal sony codec is much less destructive than H265 (I think, I am no expert). I think it is the exact same reason why we don't see Log on GH4, and I kept saying since day one of the rumor, that I will never come out. I would be happy to be wrong, but only if the results are useful. On Samsung NX1 I tink GAMMA DR, with contrast -5 is as flat as you can get on this camera... And GH4 Cine-D is so noisy... I wouldn't go any flatter... actually I stopped using this setting...
  6. Log profile with the actual level of compression... 8bit 420... I don't see how that would be interesting :/
  7. At this price I would be surprised if it could actually record UHD...
  8. Hi Colin, I've been using your software for some time, and I was wondering if there is any chance that there could be some more "advanced" options enabled ? I would love to be able to control the bitrate for macroblocking for instance, as it is one of the flaws of the NX1 :/ Any opinion about that ? Thanks for making this great soft, that made me the economy of quite some time
  9. I would definitely not buy any gear upon starting my company. I would rent, and hire for specific shootings specialist (on RED, Sony etc.). But starting a company and buying a 50k$ camera seems to me like a huge handicap...
  10. GH4 4K files dont have that big a bandwith compared to prores for example - that would put more stress on the hard drives. However since they are encoded in H264, they require a lot of cpu power.
  11. I don't deny that. But personally I wouldn't. I would get a much stronger codec, with better color depth. I've had a very bad experience with banding and the NX1. So if you don't mind not shooting sky or not grading much... But if I'm going to shoot a theatrical I would go all the way with a RED or Alexa. But that's just my opinion. I mean some people want to believe that a NX1 is like a small red. I personally think that it can compare a little bit, until you start grading. But you also have a high risk of macroblocking with the NX1 - Had this several time on corporate work. So basically the two issues (macroblocking + banding) makes the NX1 a tough choice as an A camera for theatrical. Because those two issues are really difficult to fix.
  12. Wow... I would never shoot a theatrical with a 420 8bit camera... talk about banding, macroblocks, and limited color correcting... That being said I just shot a 25min coporate film (EDIT: with the NX1) that will be projected in 4K on a 8m long screen. But it will feature everything (bad) you can expect from 8 bit 420... :/
  13. Do we know yet if it is possible to do 4K @60p on external recorder ?
  14. Which would be twice the price of the Sony FS7, and the same price as a brand new C500. Is it just me or something is weird with this camera ? Is canon betting everything on the dynamic range (15 stops advertised vs 12 for the C500 and 14 stops advertised for the FS7) ?
  15. Seems to be no slow-mo in 4K... That could be almost a deal breaker :/ - in my opinion. There might be a risk of comparing a used C500 to a new C300 mkII... but i'm no expert in Canons camera...
  16. Not in store in France either. Had to order to a German store...
  17. Got this a few months ago, works very well. You have a "sound clap" to help you sync your audio. Pretty cool.
  18. But it's also because I find it much easier to have a right exposure (considering noise) with the NX1, so I have less highlights issues with the NX1 in general.
  19. Well I have both and I don't mind the highlights on the NX1.
  20. Its extremely difficult to compare DR. Espescially with all those options (black levels, curve). For me the GH4 has actually very little usable DR because I always have to expose highly to the right to avoid the noise in all the slightly dark areas. All the tests I have seen in terms of DR haven't really convinced me. If you really want a CLEAN image with the GH4, you don't have that much dynamic range. And I don't think the highlights look nice on the GH4... :/
  21. Wow I didn't realize that people would get addicted to firmware updates this quickly ^^ It shows how Samsung already changed our vision of our cameras as having a huge potential to unlock - whereas firmware updates used to be only for bug fixing. A little bit like sony (except they charge you a few thousand $$$ for upgrades )
  22. Got it ! http://blog.josephmoore.name/2014/10/29/the-three-most-misunderstood-gh4-settings/ It was about the GH4 settings, but I have an intuition it's going to be the same about the NX1.
