  1. Depends if you're working with corporate gigs, and clients on set. And they also care what your gear looks like unfortunately. I always have to reassure some clients when I work with my NX1... If they don't see Sony or Panasonic they just freak out :/
  2. About contrast, I felt it really impact the skin tones. So you might wanna run some tests wish people, not just landscapes : )
  3. I agree so far I don't see the cinematographic image that BM usually delivers...
  4. Seems like there is a ton of banding / artefact in the sky though... that's why you use so much grain during your grading ?
  5. Ability to lose magnify focus in stand by / video mode would be great too... :/ (also ability to change the zone of the magnify would be great !)
  6. A test I ran a while ago : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2COkbUi82zM Almost only skies ^^. Youtube compression doesn't help, as well as the LUTs I applied. But there is still some banding and a little macro blocking on the graded file (before youtube compression). Hope that helps...
  7. Personally I tend to overexpose to protect the highlights - which aren't great on the NX1. But the shadows tend to retain more info than on other cameras (i.e GH4).
  8. You'll need a European invoice in case you are controlled at the customs back in germany. They don't have to prove anything, you have to prove that you bought in in Europe. :/
  9. Not many owners out there compare to Sony's cameras. Also I think that directors amateurs or pros looking to film more fiction will be probably more interested in DR than sharpness.
  10. Thanks Andrew ! How does the compress handles banding and macroblocking with such heavily compressed information ? For me (NX1 user) these are my biggest obstacles when grading NX1 footage. I'd be interested to have your feeling about that : ) Thanks again !
  11. From a few shots it definitely seemed better than my GH4 or NX1 in terms of DR... I'd say closer to12 / 12.5 but what do I know... ^^ DR is always a pain to measure !
  12. I tink what Tugela means is that what we call "science" is just a subjective feeling we have toward the color rendering of a sensor/camera - and our feeling isn't always connected to the scientific exactitude of this "science" but more about a "color style" that we appreciate or not...
  13. Will be very much interested to see how it compares to the A7S and A7R II (low light, sharpness, rolling shutter and AF) I'm not sure I'm ready to get rid of my NX1 yet...! Thanks for the info Andrew !
  14. I'm curious to see how they compare to the last gen...
  15. Hey Ed : ) but thats the thing I don't think the Raven is aimed as "traditional" mid-range productions, but more for "mid-range filmmakers" who want the red "mojo" for their film no-matter-what vs FS7/Ursa mini all-rounder cameras - ready for the wild. Now I don't know/understand in terms of market who is really going to go for the Raven... rich kids wanna be directors dropping off filmschool shooting their first short film ? Most companies I know tend to rent instead of buying the high-end gear (red or sony pro line). I'm very curious to see what the profile of the buyers will be. Personally I would never pre-order anything. I don't buy before I have seen what this thing can produce in terms of image. Heck even the Ursa mini 4.6k with its new sensor.
  16. Dragon sensor + 4k @ 120p : ) (vs crop factor and ergonomics) To be serious - I think the ergonomics of the Ursa Mini are its biggest selling point vs Red Raven. However they both need a few k$ to be "operational". I'm really curious to see how the "image signature" compares to the image of the Red Raven - and it's awkward crop factor...
  17. And that would only make this the 3rd topic about the Red Raven haha
  18. It's funny how people act surprised... This is RED we are talking about... We all said right after they announced it that their 4K couldn't be for all. It's for people who want to shoot film quality images on a budget. Yes a cinema camera (its still a dragon sensor seriously guys !!!). Now the real problem I see is the crop factor. Aside from that you still get a Dragon sensor 4K RAW 120fps camera for 10k. Now I don't think that everyone needs a Dragon Sensor, but prior from this announcement you couldn't get a dragon sensor for less than what ? 30k - 40k ? I think Red enlarged the choice for us. But if people thought they were going to have a run"gun camera from Red, they would be disappointed I guess
  19. Agreed - its a weird crop for a 10k "cinema" camera :/ Can't wait to see how it compares to the Ursa mini... this is going to be very interesting.

  21. Interested in that : ) How about grading ? Do you see any improvement in terms of how the image holds up in 8 bit 422 vs 10 bit 422 ? Thanks : )
  22. Is there really such a big difference between 4k vs 4.5k ?
  23. If they make as simple as the came single they might win a big share of the market : )
  24. Definitely interested by this topic : ) I think that Red should start developing a cheaper line of products. 1.5k a screw to mount a 3k EVF....
