  1. I've bought a few things over the years from Panamoz - good price and fortunately not had to deal with their 2 year warranty they offer, not sure how that works - it's imported from Hong Kong so grey market. I have seen quite a few GH5s being used, mainly as b cams to people with Sony fs7 who prefer it to the 8 bit of the Sony a7 series. Nobody I know would use Sony's 8 bit slog for professional use - it is too brittle and falls apart at the slightest provocation. Compared to Canon 8 bit clog which is usable. Attempting to get back on topic - I think the SH1 has a similar niche to the GH5s - it will be seen as a serious b cam for those using cameras such as EVA1, Fs7, C200 and above - the rest of us mortals will see much more value in the S1 and GH5 respectively
  2. Sounds about right - I'd say the c100 was at least a stop below that in the highlights
  3. was talking about for video - admittedly haven't tried the 5d4 in clog but with my C100 I always found the claimed 12 stops with clog seemed a bit optimistic, it definitely had a lot less DR than the Sony a6300 in slog2
  4. Canon stills cameras have nowhere near 13 stops of DR, as well as their soft hd the lack of DR has been the hardest thing to deal with when trying to match them with other cameras. Nikon have always been a bit better and then using log with Fuji xt3, Sony A6300 and A7 with slog (although the 8 bit has issues), and now finally the S1 has brought DR up to that 14 stops benchmark
  5. Ah I see... I have read on dvxuser that there will be IBIS and also weather sealing - that there will be passive cooling via a big heatsink. I don't think Panasonic have done themselves any favours by not getting out all the information out in a clear and concise way - leading to people making their own conclusions and passing them off as fact.
  6. Where are you getting this information from, I've been told that there is IBIS?
  7. You conveniently forgot (yet again) about its crap 4k too. The Eos-r is only really workable to me as a HD camera. For the price that's pretty pathetic in 2019 - here in the UK the EOS-r is £2349 with adaptor, the S1 is £2199 with full V-log. Other than AF the S1 in my opinion is way more of a camera for less money. And DBounce I'm not sure where all this talk about the S1 being way more expensive than the rest has come from. The Nikon z6 is only £1529 though, that's a pretty good deal Apologies for going a little off topic
  8. Mattias you're talking about a hd camera with no rolling shutter. In 4k it's a disaster. A little misleading don't you think. Yes that would be amazeballs, i hope they do, but when? It would need 10 bit as well cause slog isn't workable in 8 bit and all the other colour profiles on Sony are horrible and lack DR. And yes their IBIS is way behind Panasonic as well at the moment
  9. If Sony finally does release a full frame camera with 4k60p and 10 bit internal it is going to have to be a much bigger camera than the A7. Their track record for dealing with the heat these specs would bring is abysmal. People have grumbled about the size of the S1 but I don't think a smaller body would work. Panasonic are the masters of dealing with heat - their cameras haven't suffered with that issue like all it's competitors have. I'm pretty sure that's a big reason we've not seen a Sony a7s3 - there's no way they can squeeze 4k60p in those bodies without it exploding, and now Panasonic have pushed the specs even higher with 6k, Sony will have to bring out a much bigger body to compete
  10. https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/06/01/panasonic-lumix-s1-dmw-sfu2-software-upgrade-key/ Newshooter is saying the V-log update to the S1 is free up until october, the S1 is sounding better and better
  11. Ha yes this is the truth - DBounce has been ragging on a camera that obviously isn't aimed at him whilst having spent £2300 on an EOS-r that to me is so crippled in 4k it's only really useable in HD. That's a lot of money for HD In 2019. That camera obviously wasn't aimed at me. Is all to do with perspective I guess...
  12. this camera is head and shoulders above anything else for video, 4k 60p 10 bit 422 internal ,over 14 stops of DR - very impressive... but with the now free vlog upgrade on the S1 and all the video goodness that brings and IBIS, the S1 is the more appealing choice to me
  13. the title of this thread is supposedly about a cine camera not hybrid - as has been mentioned that's what the S1 is
  14. and equally that was why it is irrelevant bringing it up in a thread about a possible cine camera
  15. but in the spirit of adding to the noise, Varicam LT now down to $10k https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/05/29/panasonic-drops-the-price-of-the-varicam-lt-to-9995/?fbclid=IwAR1OlcHhs2TTmKPhOd1saFx_W4OZ-7P1Cs_xF3DDCFsdGxRPi-JSj9wnq2o
  16. this thread is getting silly, we'll all know soon enough, now back to my cave I go...
  17. Yes I've had enough of Canon and their shitty ways, am in the midst of selling all my Canon gear and have just got a Fuji XT3 - amazing camera for the price and looking forward to investing in a company who actually seem interested in giving people what they want. It feels great being free of all the frustrations being tied into the Canon system gives you.
  18. There are loads of l mount adaptors, BTM_Pix linked to some ages ago. See if I can find the post
  19. the AF actually looks good enough for my occasional needs but some people seem to completely rely on it. The colour, IBIS and dynamic range take this camera way above the rest for me, would be nice to see footage with some old glass, anyone come across any?
  20. I think it has the best image of all the mirrorless cameras I've ever seen, can't wait to see what full v-log brings. AF for video is its only real weakness but for me that's not a big deal - it is more important that it has great IBIS, handheld with my Canon fd lenses will be lovely
  21. I wonder what Canon can bring to a pro model to be competitive, presuming it will have a much higher price than the EOS-R and the rest of the market? The Canon main selling points over the years in my opinion have been the colour, AF and lenses... The EOS-R does have nice Canon colour but in my opinion Panasonic S1 and the XT3 have now surpassed them Their AF is no longer a clear market leader - Sony look like they are overtaking them They have relied on their huge ef and efs lens range that people already own but this is a new mount and so this is no longer such a great selling point - they are giving away the adaptor with the camera now but as you say most people will hang onto their ef lenses The DR and RS and crop is way behind the competition at the moment as are their video specs - I'm not convinced they have good enough sensor tech to get that back. It feels like they are being left behind. I would love to be wrong because I have a lot of Canon lenses and a couple of their cameras and if they they could create a decent stills and video hybrid camera I would buy it even if it was a bit more expensive than the competition. But I don't think they really care about the video side in their stills cameras, and I have little faith in them turning it round and so think I'm going to sell all my Canon stuff, just not sure whether to go Panasonic or Fuji at the moment
