The $/min is a great consideration for this as well, never something I really thought of much before, but the difference between 25c/min and $31/min is enormous.

Well said. That, to me, is the key with Blackmagic. It just passes the eye test right off the bat. FS7 stuff always seems like it needs to get dressed up to look like cinema. Blackmagic stuff just is. The Kinefinity footage has a similar feel to me: right off the bat it feels movie-like. With the total cost of media, batteries etc I wonder which is a better overall value between Kine and the Ursa Mini.

    from http://www.eddavid.tumblr.com

Vimeo basically help me with my career- through a small camera test I did called, “Sexy S Log” where I tested s log on the f3 (new at the time) - an influential director and friend found me and got me into higher end commercial work.  And so did so many other films I worked on.  It is literally the best thing that helps me able to have a career.
With that said, I have watched it since 2008 - and since then, I have noticed more and more, that there are many things it can improve.  The biggest thing too is that it needs to improve, because right now, the video quality and playback is superior on youtube.  Vimeo was started as an alternative to youtube in that it gave higher resolution and less compression than youtube.  But youtube caught up.  So now more than ever there is less reason to use vimeo than youtube, except for the community that exists there.  Basically it’s a social network for filmmakers.
And I think they get that - with their “Staff” people always checking out videos and commenting - I love that.  You feel like you know them personally.  It’s so nice.
Anyway here’s a quick list of ways they could improve the interface to make it more successful as a film social network.
    1.  have a “like” buttons.  so people can like comments.  or upvote or downvote a comment.  a la Reddit.  so there are also less, “thank you” short unnessicary comments
    2.  the homepage should have a feed of all the videos of the people you are following.  like a news streams like twitter or facebook.  and allow you to hide or mute people you don’t want to follow
    3.  allow users to quickly create “film festivals”  - playlists of content that inspires them.  like how spotify does it.  and feature the most popular ones.  Lilke curation - feature the most popular ones - the people with the most followers.  Or have famous filmmakers go on vimeo and find their favorite films, like spotify.
    4.  improve the search function - it’s still very hard to search for filmmakers
    5.  update the user page experience - so it’s more customized to the artist.  maybe more like imdb.  where you can quickly list films you worked on - resume style
    6.  show location and other things that users have - what cameras, where are they located - do they want to meet up?
    7. allow meet up events - film screenings, event invites - to build community - get a bunch of people together to watch films and talk about them.  maybe help create a film community in smaller areas.  connect people more globally
    8.  vimeo pro - feature more vimeo pro films - it seems like vimeo pro is where a lot of the effort is going - monitization is always a good thing - but still - for non vimeo pro - maybe still create ads on the page, so that vimeo can focus on the free content as well.
    9. mobile friendly - still make it more social network like on the mobile browser.
    10. notifications - allow people to know when someone commented easier and your comment is responded to - like eoshd - this helps build community and discussions
    11.  have a section just for discussion - have more forums - just for talking about filmmaking - again with minor banner ads, whats the harm, right?
    12.  allow tags to work more efficiently - like twitter.  live and die by the hashtags - to quickly allow people to find similar videos
    13.  like netflix - have other videos if you like this, you might love - to keep people on the site, to discover new videos.
the rest of my ideas is hardware based - having faster loading of videos - those are harder issues because that costs a lot of money.
the ideas above is expensive too, but maybe a little less.
anyway let me know what you think of all this.  And I will continue of course to support vimeo - I love how there

Andrew, is it too late to suggest an 'option 7'?
    18mm T3.1 - 25mm T2.1 - 35mm T2.1 - 50mm T2.1 - 85mm T2.1
This is just personal preference, but from my experience when folks want to shoot longer than 85 they use a zoom like a 70-200. I think SLR Magic should focus more on wide angle options because there are plenty of crop cameras being used for cinematography.

FWIW, 24mm was the more common length in stills glass years ago (see Canon FD), and, I suppose, hits closer to FF 35 equivalent on a APS-C sensor than 25mm.  That said, cinema glass typically includes the 25mm, rather than the 24mm (see, Xenon FFs, Zeiss Master Primes, Cooke, etc).  For that matter, the 85mm is more typical in stills glass, whereas the 75mm is the more common focal length for cinema glass.
Matching up to the Xenons (or Zeiss Master Primes), for example, we'd ideally want, in a six lens set: 21, 25, 35, 50, 75, 100 -- with a 135 next in line (and possibly more desirable than a 21mm for FF users).
As an A7S/FS700/BM user, I can absolutely say I'd love to use the A7S with a set of well built, dedicated cinema glass (and intend to pick up a set of the Xenons - though if the SLR Magic timetable were sooner, would be very interested in those).  Though the Rokinon DS's are a great value, they don't have nearly the build quality of more expensive glass.  Camera bodies come and go -- lenses can last a lifetime, so paring up a long term solid, durable set of cinema lenses while swapping your camera body every few years is a sound strategy.  Remember also, sensor sizes are getting larger (see Dragon 6K), so FF coverage may be very important in future proofing a set of lenses.

I see there are the most votes for a full frame friendly set starting with 24mm at the widest.
So, I assume (wich is pretty logical) that of course the very big full frame crowd (A7s, 5d3, D810 maybe speedbooster users) did their fair share of voting.
Thing is, tis set will cost slightly above 10k$ when released. I don't see any A7s user shelling out that amount of cash, when there is the samyang/rokinon
    cinema lenses option around.
The uniqueness of the SLR Magic set is the PL mount. The cheapest new 6 Lens set that has PL mount starts at 20k + tax.
So I see the real customers in those that are used to prices like 20k+ that are now very happy that they don't need to spend as much.
Of course, not only those will buy, but I would say they should be served first.
    My preference would be (18), 21, 25, 35, 50, 85. Later I would add a 135mm

No no, I should apologize, but honestly in this context "pedantic" is not necessarily a pejorative.  Specializing deeply in certain skills is part of the trade as a DP.  Knowing the intricacies is important.  I get that.  As I say, I'm a guy that just does corporate videos mostly.  I don't have a body of work that needs such finesse with color, so I'm ignorant about the heavy details...but I'm not sure if I want to actually worry too much about it, if that's understandable.
My sensibilities are elsewhere.  As you can see from my writing above, I'm sort of content that my stuff is good enough (for better or worse).
Thanks for offering your perspective.  It's enlightening.

No, not my work, just examples of color grading that make "ideal skin tone" seem somewhat irrelevant.
My point is this:  I'm not looking for a camera that offers the best skin tone.  I'm saying all modern cameras are pretty good and with color grading you can pull it into your preference anyway.
If you agree with that assertion, then why worry so much about skin tone to begin with?
If you disagree with that premise I'm genuinely interested why.  I accept that I may be off the mark here.
As for my videos, there's nothing in there where I'm upset with skin tone color.

Watermark. Watermark Watermark. Occasionally have a watermark run across the screen in an establishing shot or something that doesn't have actors. See at the end of the day, if someone want to leak it there is nothing you can do. So the watermark at least helps you identify who did it.

On a film I worked, we would invite all these guys to our office and show them a copy. Sadly, the film was so bad no one bought it. So as a filmmaker it's also a catch 22 situation.

You've got this far, what could possibly go wrong, if the Distro company is a known quantity, with some track record then it should be ok, but I have no idea what pitfalls await from the deals these companies make, hopefully they dont follow the same tricks they use to swindle Boy Bands out of  fortunes & tie them into exclusivety. Remember it doesnt have to look or smell like a shark to be a shark :)

Interesting, liked the sound & visuals, although I wasnt scared by the woman :) Nice shot with the moon.
Do not let your film out there without that watermark(but even that can't stop design pirates intent on stealing ideas & reframing them,
pity the decision maker can't be in the room, but understandably they could be far away.
At least one person from the Distribution Company should attend to show support,
and to see it as intended on a big screen, otherwise it could be shown on some laptop.
I'm not sure I would want to send it though, cant you just point them to a private/secure web page,
that only they can see & you can monitor.
Alternatively wrap it into a secure PDF just to make it awkward.

Just a brainstorm idea, but you could invite them to a viewing if youve got a place good enough to do it, then theres no chance. Unless he runs off with the disk/player/laptop.

watermark it with the person who signed the NDA's name on it and give it to them low resolution? that's how i get screener material that hasn't been released yet. if it gets out, someone gets sued, heads roll, people jump off balconies etc.

I was thinking Canon APS-C too actually because of the colours and the way edges are rendered quite harshly, eg 49 seconds in.

    Looks like a great film.

I think the CGI issue can be solved with a tiny bit of edge blur and perhaps a tiny bit of noise.

This looks like Canon APS-C or 5D MkII to me. Possibly GH3 but not quite sharp enough IMO. I'd go for 7D (non-RAW)

This is definitely one of the more intriguing trailers I've seen recently. Great job :) Only thing I'd say is some of the VFX is quite jarring. In particular the shots of the mountain (close and far) are too crisp.

No comment on the whether or not you should post a trailer here, because I'm not a host in this forum.
You're probably right about the poor visibility in that place, but I think the Screening Room is a nice idea in general. I think it just needs a bit more advertising. Besides, a trailer posted here may get more visibility here at first, but only for a short while. After which it will start sinking into oblivion fast, whereas in the Screening Room it'll stay relevant longer.

In other words, the simple solution to the eyeball dilemma would be more effort from both the administrators/hosts and the users in this forum to make the Screening Room more popular. Talk about it, move unrelated clips to it, maybe even link to clips inside it, compose songs about it and so on, so that people will notice its existence and start flocking there more often, and eventually automatically.
    Well, just my 2c.

I reckon go for it (though it's not my house either). People have posted films in the main forum before. There was a horror short not long ago. And you're right that posts in the screening room don't seem to get the number of hits.
