  1. So, to my knowledge the a6300 has a crop factor of around 1.5, making that 35mm lens more like a 50mm fov. So while encouraging that a little motion with a longer lens is possible, it would be great to see what a fov of 35mm looks like. So something like a 20-24mm on that camera would be great. I hope I am not sounding demanding. If you don't have a combo like that don't worry about it, but I see myself hoping to shoot with a fov somewhere between 30-35mm, and it would be great to know how easy this is with this gimbal. Thanks again.
  2. As mentioned already, false color is one of the more helpful exposure tools, but you can definitely get by without it. I shot a whole feature without it, so it's possible, but I wouldn't do that again. I attended one of Shane Hurlbut's workshops and other than his eyes, false color is all he uses for exposure. If you don't need the recording, definitely don't go with Atomos. The Aputure ones seems great. I picked up a lilliput 665 for super cheap on eBay. Works great. I also just recently bought a Kenko light meter which I've never used before. I'm not sure how I lived without it. But I still end up using false color for making exposure decisions. The light meter is more for knowing what's going on in the room and perhaps tuning the lighting in the room to suit the scene better. But that's probably a bit more than you're trying to do right now. Bottom line, if you can find an inexpensive monitor that has false color, I'd go for it. Es muy bueno!
  3. What I think BM needs to do, should've already done right at the last announcement, is announce a slight price reduction. It only makes sense for the micro anyway. One is forced to buy a monitor to accompany it. $795 or $895 sounds right to me compared to current pocket price. I think a $500 reduction is coming for the 4.6k eventually, would've been cool to announce up front, but they probably have some massive r&d costs to overcome first. I think both are worth their current asking prices, but any reduction would've helped alleviate the sting in loss of gs. Btw, it sounds like gs is coming for sure in the turret swap for URSA major, and JB has caused me to believe there is definitely a pocket v2 coming soon, probably announced at the upcoming NAB. Better screen (hopefully articulating), 60p, better battery life, and if it had gs I wouldn't at all be surprised. I think it's going to come with an increased price tag, just a hunch, and will level off the current price of micro. Maybe we'll see a reduction in current pocket price? All speculation but I enjoy this with BM. They're such a cool company.
  4. As beautiful and enchanting as Chinese symbols are, I can't read them. Would be great if someone would translate. Footage from this and Dave Dugdale looks great, however, both are using EXTREMELY wide lenses. My guess is that they're somewhere in the 20-27mm 35mm equivalent fov range. Doesn't look bad, but I would love to see more tests around the 35mm fov range. Fredrik, if you're taking requests, that's what I would I would ask for. Thanks in advance.
  5. Please continue to update us on the H2. On paper that is definitely the better one, but my hesitation is customer service, which is huge. I heard bad things about H1 service. When things go well it's cool, but when things go wrong will someone help you out?
  6. Thanks Mercer. I actually felt pretty bad about dodging your post. That's not me. Thanks again for your support. Hope you enjoy the flick.
  7. I have this lens and love it, but unfortunately it does not keep focus when zooming. It is not a parfocal lens. I wish it was, but it's not. There's nothing wrong with your copy. It's just the way most still zooms are designed.
  8. Ok, so this is a little late coming. Maybe too late. Honestly, I let resistance get the best of me on this. I didn't know how to go about this, so I'm just going to do it. Some folks have asked about it (sorry Mercer for ignoring your inquiry) and I've just been too much of a wuss to address them. So here it is, if your interested. But first I am going to try and talk you out of watching it. For starters, the trailer is better than the movie. I'm not kidding. Without trying to toot my own horn, I actually think I would make a decent trailer cutter, and this trailer exceeds the film for sure. There is a definite faith based element in this film. I'm not apologizing for this, but I have learned that some people don't see it in the trailer. I had one individual get very upset at me because he watched the film not knowing that was a part of the movie. So if you didn't pick up on this from the trailer, please know that it is definitely there. This is my first feature, and it shows. It actually wasn't even supposed to be a feature, but it slowly morphed into one over time. With that said I am extremely proud of this film and after I've made many more I will be happy to point to this one as my first. I also think there could be some encouragement here for the fellow filmmaker in knowing and seeing a first time filmmakers attempt. With little to no resources, films can still be made. But it is what it is, a first film. There are some good things too. A lot people have really enjoyed the cinematography. And the actors are awesome. In fact, there's one scene near the end where the actors performance and story and music all came together perfectly... like it couldn't have been better. I'm really proud of that moment and there are many more that I think turned out really good. More info on this film and the making of can be found here - And without further ado, here's the trailer and film. If you decide to watch it, I have created a promo code for 25% off for EOSHD readers. 'eoshd299' If for some reason that has trouble (which has happened before) please let me know and I'll jump right on working out the bugs. Thanks again.
  9. Do happen to have, or have access to the original pocket for comparison purposes?
  10. Would just like to say to Blackmagic (if they're reading), congratulations on the release of the 4.6K, looks like an amazing camera. I am absolutely blown away by the look of the footage I am seeing from this camera. You have done an amazing job with this camera and I am so stoked there is a company out there creating the products you create and selling them for the affordable prices you are selling them for. Please keep up the amazing work. Bummed for Blackmagic and those that were counting on GS, very disappointing, but in the end it's still going to be a great camera. Blessings all around.
  11. I very seriously doubt that.... Waiting for a real answer....
  12. I would absolutely love to hear where you derive your ethics from Ed. I think it's safe to say it's not from religion. I think it's also pretty clear that its not from the law or government either (which is a lame source of ethics anyway). So again, from where do you get this moral code that you judge others so harshly by?
  13. This is exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks Tupp. Was going to go with the 478, but thanks to you will be getting the Kenko.
  14. I've never owned one. And as I understand, most DP's today don't even use them any more when shooting digital. I've got a monitor with zebras, false color and histogram, and I'm pretty confident I can make most of my exposure decisions using these tools. My interest in a light meter is more or less to experiment and to gain a basic framework for differences and similarities in lighting environments, situations, subjects, etc. Honestly, I hear DP's talk about such and such being a stop brighter or two stops darker or whatever, and I have no frame of reference whatsoever to relate to. I guess I'm investing in an education. However, I fully suspect that after a fairly short time I will have the frame of reference I'm looking for and won't need it much beyond that, so I'm apprehensive about buying the most expensive one. I know that the Sekonic 758C or whatever is the light meter to rule all light meters, but I'm wondering if it's a little more than I need. But having never used one, and being very unfamiliar with the subject matter, I do not know what I need and what I don't. Any help here would be much appreciated.
  15. No , I was saying the NX1 and A7Sii have crappy images. It was a joke. ?
  16. Yah, but then you have to deal with that crappy image. ?
  17. Seems pretty impressive to be honest. A couple hundo more than the ds1 may just be worth it. I like the payload increase. The remote will be cool. 26 hour battery life sounds fictional, but miraculous. I like some of the other tricks, like removing the handle, but then how do you power the gimbal? Any other thoughts guys? I might jump in with this. I was purposely holding off on the ds1 for something like this to come up.
  18. When Metabones makes one that is speedbooster and nd combo I'll be really excited.
  19. DP, so again, I know that you probably don't have this lens, but considering your experience with the DS1, BMPCC and 18-35, what would you think about the Sigma 10-20 paired with BMPCC on the DS1? It's over a half pound lighter (nearly a third of the weight) and over an inch shorter. I believe both lighter and shorter work in the favor of it going on the DS1. The lens itself seems to be a great lens that would pair nicely with the 18-35. Anyway, thoughts?
  20. I find it so baffling that in one thread you adamantly claim that the "system is broken" while paradoxically quoting said system "innocent until proven guilty" as your proof of the breakage. Ironically, in an altogether different thread, which I believe you titled something like "When the courts aren't enough", YOU cast guilt on a man who was NOT found guilty. And then in this thread, which to be honest I am totally confused as to which allegations we're referring to at this point, it appears as though it doesn't even matter what the courts decide as long as there is a history of lawsuits and settlements, which evidently is equal to guilt. But then you'll turn around and conveniently embrace the law again the moment it agrees with you. Honestly, your logic is as inconsistent as you claim the system to be. I recommend you stick to movies Ed. You're way better at that.
  21. If you haven't seen this... check it. I just don't see what people are not seeing. I personally don't think a Red or Alexa would have looked any better. There are amazing things coming from this camera. As I've said, this sensor is going to change the world, ultimate playing field leveler. Password 'ursa'
  22. So from what I've been told, S35 is closer to a 1.4 crop factor. So the 32mm brings you to around 45mm. A 28mm is closer to a 40mm. Your 43mm would fit nicely right in between. And for what it's worth, I thought Fargo was masterfully shot. Wouldn't change a thing. And NCFOM is one of my favorites for every reason, but I don't know why one needs to be like the other.
  23. Boy you really edited that didn't you Ed. Not even the same post. I like this version better though. Question, how many females are on this forum? I can think of only a couple. Must be a pretty discriminatory forum.
  24. No. They could just be looking for a way out of a mess that has no upside for them to spend on winning. Consider this, you have a successful company, of any sort. You are relatively well known. You are a white male. Your workers (or their lawyers) decide they want more. So they make claims, of racism or sexism or whatever. Think that will make the news? Yup. So what do you do? Personally I'd fight it, but that's easy for me to say. It is way more cost effective to settle. Btw, I'm not saying no wrong doing has happened, I'm saying we can't cast an early verdict until the accused has had a fair trial. And for you and I that may never happen unless we make it our business to dig deep and thoroughly. Healthy discussion about facts and data is always good though, and for what it's worth, I feel this last bit of discussion has been healthy. I'd love to see us stick to facts and data, and keep our opinions to cameras and lenses and movies, but that's just like, uh, my opinion man.
