  1. Its a cool app, but its not the stabilization is not THAT great. There is definitely warping all over the place as I walk through the house with it.
  2. Footage looks great! My biggest suggestion would be to find some music thats a little more upbeat/exciting. You've got a few quick cuts in there that just seem abrupt with the current music, which just seems a little too somber for a demo reel.
  3. I shot this last week with a broken Olympus 50 1.8 I got for free! The rear element has a big crack (you can see the shape of it in the bokeh!) and I poked a hole in the front element with a screwdriver+hammer combo. Obviously not for every shot but definitely a cool look in the tool bag
  4. If you're referring to the Sony A7 models, I'm not sure, but I think so. He talks about why he likes this model more than the others
  5. Sam Hurd is one of the best photographers currently out there in my opinion. He's been shooting with the A7r for a few months, and just put up a review of the A7S. He is using primarily leica lenses, and mentions the usefulness of focus peaking in the viewfinder with manual lenses. Its a good read from a different perspective! http://www.samhurdphotography.com/2014/gear-reviews/sony-a7s-review-sony-a7s-vs-a7r
  6. Got it. I'll probably hold off for a while and see what the next year brings in terms of computers. Leaning towards a 13" rMBP, but it can wait for the time being.
  7. Jeez take a chill pill man. I don't need the best computer in existence. I need a computer good enough to edit some C100 and 5D clips while on the road. As stated I've got a pretty powerful iMac at home. I'd rather not break my back or my bank on a laptop if I don't have to.
  8. The air I have was a gift. Its a 13 inch, i5 with only 4GB of ram, hence why I was wondering about one of the top of the line newer models. To me, buying the LaCie would defeat the purpose of a mobile rig as I'd need to plug it into a wall :) I did just purchase a pair of those slick western digital passport raid drives. Excited for those. Leeys, I've got a mid 2011 iMac that is still running strung. 3.4 GHz i7, 16GB ram, and the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB graphics card. I really don't know how that compares to todays models but its still working just fine for me. I agree in that I can't stand large laptops, the point of this would be portability, and getting some cutting down while on the road. I only ever use film convert along with basic cutting and text.
  9. I've already got a 27 inch iMac with a quad core i7 and 16gb of ram. This will not be my main editing machine, just something for when I travel which happens occasionaly
  10. Thanks for the input. The lightweight and size of the Macbook air is so desirable for me, but I suppose the 13 inch MB Pro is not too much bigger or heavier! I did do a bit of cutting on my 2012 macbook air today just as a test. Organizing and cutting clips was fine. When it came to grading and rendering anything, it was slow as a snail
  11. Got it, thanks for the simple explanation!
  12. The only thing lacking on the RX100 line for me is a built in time-lapse feature. I jerry-rigged a solution out of a rubber band at an airport once after TSA got on to me for shooting a time lapse with my DSLR :) Looks like the MK3 comes with its fair share of issues, but still comes close to being the perfect camera for my run and gun situations.
  13. Okay, now thats just funny. I guess the proof will be in the pudding once footage starts to hit the web. But I think we all share your suspicions, it'll probably still have moire among other issues.
  14. Price is not so much the issue as portability for me. I would love to have the smaller 13 inch, so long as it's fast enough for 1080p footage and film convert. Anyone here with experience?
  15. Also, what about the Intel HD Graphics 5000 cards on the Macbook air? Keep in mind I'm not shooting 4K, nor do I really plan to in the next 5 years. I own a C100 and 5D mark 3, and my wedding and real estate clients are very happy with what I'm shooting. 1080p for me
  16. Hello Everyone. Simple computer question - I'm not the most tech-savvy guy around (which is why I hang out here :) ) Taking a look at the new macbook pros, the main thing that seems to separate the 13-inch and 15-inch models is the fact that the 15 have a quad-core i7 processor, whereas the 13 only has a dual core i7 processor. Additionally, the 13 has "Intel Iris Graphics" whereas the 15 has "Intel Iris Pro Graphics" Cant someone please explain the practical benefits of either of these while editing video AND stills? 75% of my work is weddings, both photos and video. I work completely in FCPX and lightroom 5. I'm not really sure the benefit of either the processor or graphics card, other than they're likely faster in some way. But is there some specific place that these components will help with performance?
  17. Yup, I do this on my 5D3 too. Perfectly common practice in the world of digital photography!
  18. Why get so upset over this? Nikon cameras will never be incredibly desirable for video, as you can only use their lenses on that mount. We'll always have more flexibility with Sony and canon. Why not just let a stills camera be a stills camera :)
  19. If it just matched the 1080p my c100 or even came close, if consider it a win. 1080/60 too. But I'm not holding my breath for either
  20. When I watched this a week or two ago the only thing that stood out to me was that it was a genius idea that was not well executed. I agree it is painfully shaky. Feel like a movi would have been the perfect tool for this video
  21. "Evolutionary 19 megapixel sensor!"
  22. I would absolutely rent the FS700. It's a well thought out camera that's more or less made for a production environment. The black magic can be stunning but can cause so many headaches in the process. Having experience with the FS700 will be more beneficial for you in the future if you get hired for more jobs and end up working with professional cameras.
  23. Hey friends. Anyone know of any stores in the US that have the Sigma 18-35 available? I can't seem to find one in stock (Canon Mount) and would prefer not to order from ebay. Anyone else ordered one and had to wait a while till it arrived?
  24. I feel bad for people who just can't enjoy movies like the Dark Knight.
