  1. If ML is any kind of benchmark it would appear that Full HD may be possible at least for a decent length burst depending on the buffer size and if they can actually get usable footage out of it, but the chances any kind of compression or even bit rate reduction are slim to none. It is highly doubtful that the camera would have the processing power to do anything other than dump the data to a card, which is all ML on a canon can do as well.
  2. I think that depends on how much you are looking to spend.
  3. Having never used it or seen footage from it my best guess would be something like this. It is small and I believe there were 2 types 1 for 8mm and 1 for 16mm. It is 1.5 stretch so you don't have to crop at all if you are OK with a 2.66 aspect ratio, which is has been used in the past. It is also a single focus adapter. I believe this one is for a 16mm camera but I am not 100% sure about that. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bolex-Moller-16-32-1-5-x-anamorphot-anamorphic-lens-RARE-/251912551513?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3aa7287c59 Here is another, 1.5x single focus and for a 8mm camera. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Iscomorphot-8-1-5X-Isco-Gottingen-Anamorphic-Cinemascope-Lens-Kowa-2x-1-5/251927079133?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D30251%26meid%3D69d581b17b734036a6504c55e1d15c69%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D251912551513&rt=nc You should be able to track down footage shot with either of these to see if they have the look you are after. These are just examples of the lens you can probably find better ones since these 2 seem to have some issues.
  4. I think most of the horror stories are reminants from when these cameras first came out. Most of the issues have been delt with via firmware upgrades and in many ways the cameras are very different now than they were when the first launched. Just be sure you are familiar with the cameras as they are now rather than as they were. For instance the BMCC now has lossless compressed raw, frame guides, in camera formating, improved audio but the black sun still remains. However that is being addressed with an auto fix in Resolve 12...
  5. What is it about this specific lens that you need?
  6. So I am in the process of upgrading some gear and need to sell some items to do so. I am wanting to pic up a camera for around $500, less is better than more, that takes very good stills and is usable for video. I am considering the Sony A6000 but am curious what other options might be out there. I would be shooting full manual canon/M42 glass. Thank in advance.
  7. I have a Ceicio7 without the tripod mount that I don't need anymore if you interested. It is located in the US.
  8. Thank you for all of your suggestions, I have a 85mm, Helios 40, that I love and have used on a FF and I would like to keep that same FOV which is why I want a full frame.
  9. Looking for a cheap full frame camera that is great for photos, decent video any suggestions?
  10. Of all the anamorphic lenses I have used including the Lomo square fronts and Iscorama 54, the Kowa 16H/8Z is still one of my favorites. A lot of character, nice warm flares in sun light and it is very sharp. If you can live with the dual focus it is a great lens and would be my recommendation for a starter anamorphic as well.
  11. Interestingly if you take the specs from the website for the anamorphic mode of 3072 x 2560 and do the math it is a 1.2:1 ratio not 4:3.
  12. The A7s has to resort to line skipping when shooting over 30P in FF mode, no external device will be able to change that. The best 50p you can get is in crop mode since it no longer line skips and downscales a 2.7k image to HD.

    Kowa front size

The diameter is smaller than 72mm but the lens it self doesn't have a front filter thread, if you are referring to the 16h/8z. You can buy clamps to add a 72mm front filter thread, the best one I am aware of being the one made by Redstan AKA Tony Wilson. The 82mm will be fine if you use stepping rings. http://www.redstan.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=33_37&product_id=41
  14. To calculate you take the max and minimum distance and do 1/distance. So if your lens goes from infinity to 2 meters you do these calculations. 1/infinity = 0 1/2 meters = 0.5 So the isco has a 0 to 0.5 focus strength. Next you add the power of the diopter(+0.5) to these numbers, so it now goes from 0.5 to 1.0. Last you divide 1 by the new focus strength. A +0.5 diopter would be. 1/ 0.5 = 2 meters maximum focus 1/1 = 1 meter minumum focus distance. If you had a +1 diopter it would be 1/1 = 1 meter maximum focus 1/1.5 = 0.67 meters minimum focus. And so on...
  15. I will most likely be accepting a offer for this if it doesn't sell so last chance. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOMO-Foton-37-140mm-f-3-5-Zoom-Anamorphic-Lens-PL-LAST-CHANCE-NOT-RELISTING-/191543406301?ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
  16. Sorry but in any profession if you physically assault a fellow co-worker you risk looking your employment and the decision to do so is entirely in the hands of the employer. If this altercation had happened in private away from the show that is one thing but that is not the case. Are you suggesting that he should get special treatment because of his "rock star" status? I believe that he made that show and that it will suffer greatly without him, but that was the BBC's call to make. Put another way if i, and the majority of people, were to hit someone else that I work with I would most likely get fired, why should he be any different.

    Adapting Lenses

It is possible to adapt a mft to E mount using a adapter but mft lenses are not designed to cover full frame or even aps-c so chances are any mft lens will not cover the sensor and will vignette.
  19. Since these are super rare now days I wanted to let you know that I have put these items up on ebay. I have the Diopter listed separate so you can pick it up without having to buy the whole set. Thanks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOMO-Foton-A-diopter-1M-/191529798469?ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOMO-Foton-37-140mm-t-4-5-Zoom-Anamorphic-PL-EF-/191529794260?ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
  20. Keep in mind that in APS-C mode the 4K is actually more like 2.8k that is internally upscaled to 4k. So your true resolution would be more like 1410 pixels in height. With a 2x and a 2.4 ratio your actual resolution would be 3384 x 1410 even thought the recorded resolution would be 5184 x 2160. One interesting fact about 2x anamorphics on a full frame lens is that the crop factor going from 32:9 (16;9 x 2 in width) to a more normal 2.4 is just about 1.5 which is almost APS-C sized crop. This means most of the time you can use anamorphics designed for s35mm film, like the Lomo's, on a full frame camera without vignetting once cropped down to 2.4.
  21. Saw this years ago and found the videos unremarkable until I realized that I was actually watching light waves propagate and bounce. Pretty amazing stuff. There is one major downside to this tech that makes it uses very limited in that this camera can do what it does by recording the same event over and over and over again and compiling the results. Hence in can only record events that can be precisely repeated over and over again. This is a limitation that I don't think can be overcome since to record light travelling as in the video you posted would require sampling that light with something travelling faster than the speed of light. That is impossible in physics as we know it.
  22. I always copy the files into a folder with a descriptive name and date, then I wrote a simple python script that goes through all folders and renames the clips with the folder name + the original name of the clip. This has worked well enough for having unique names and takes very little time. As for deleting them all, just delete them all at once from the folder on a computer.
  23. The A7s appears to be somewhat different in that is uses some sort of database system for storing files. When you format the card you wipe out the database so it re-creates it and everything starts over. For a single card just delete the files off instead of formatting, not sure what to do about multiple cards though. I agree that this was a odd choice by Sony.
  24. It is kind of a given that down scaling UHD to HD in post is going to give better results than HD straight from the camera on the A7s even though that is exactly what the camera is doing internally anyway. The reason for this is simple, the A7s needs to read the data off the sensor, de-bayer it, downscale it, and compress it in real time at up to 60 fps were down scaling in post the footage only needs to be scaled and it doesn't even have to be real time during the rendering process. This means that better more computationally expensive scaling operations can be used compared to those used in camera. Here lies another advantage of cameras that can shoot raw, all of these operations can be done on more powerful machines at higher quality when done on a computer in post rather than in camera.
