    My ideal monitor would have:
    Smart phone size
    1080p
High Brightness (800 NIT or more - no more hoods!)
HDMI loop/through (in case you need to go to Paralinx or similar)
    CFast 4k Recording
A hinge that can either attach to camera (Andrew's example) or screw onto 1/4 20.
    Replaceable internal battery
    External power options

I like having both the Nikon and the Tokina even though they are the same focal lengths they both have very good looks that are uniquely different .
The Nikon I like to think has a look like an Arri Zeiss Master Prime - a very modern clean strong blacks v sharp wide open modern cinema glass look like Fincher uses
(they did use this lens on Bourne)

where as the Tokina has a certain Mojo about it that is probabally more filmic than the Nikon , it just makes everything looks great!! - I always shoot both lenses at f2.8
inside , outside day or night!!    get the Tiffen NDs on it !!

Actually it really wasn't that sophisticated, which goes to show how serious this problem can become in the future; it's not limited to media companies or first amendment issues. This was a test post btw. Testing Testing..

PS. I was torn between Ronin and a Letus Helix so I purchased both knowing I'd send one back. They both arrived about the same time. Though I love the concept of the Helix's design better after one look at all the software hoops I'd have to jump through, I packed it up and sent it back. Buy both cameras if you can afford (or do it on credit), do some simple flesh, chart and motion tests and send the loser home.

My rig consist of bits and parts of a Ginirig but the shoulder pad is from Shape. I use a Lanparte v-mount power supplier to run my Zoom H6 and my Art Dual Pre........and of course my wonderful new Samsung NX1(used to be a gh2 on there). I know.....it is heavy...but, I come from the t.v. industry and have shot mostly with ENG cameras like the Panasonic P2 3100 so I am used to it.......and I dislike microjitters and shaky cam, I like to be smooth in shooting.....so a correctly balanced a bit heavy rig for me

I keep wanting my "photo" cameras to suffice as video cameras (Nikon D600, Sony a7, etc.) but I'm with fuzzynormal and Oliver--The Panasonic GH3/GX7/GM1 cameras make shooting video easy and fun (I have the GM1).  If everyone could afford it, I'm pretty sure the GM1 would be in every videographer's bag.  I didn't think much of it as a sills camera until I acquired a Olympus 17mm/1.8.  The way you can easily go from auto to manual focus with the Oly lens is brilliant.  I wanted to move away from MFT in 2014, but it didn't happen.  I gravitate more and more to the GM1 and I bought a BMPCC again.
Here's a video I did in between taking photos with various still cameras around my neck.  The GM1s are around $500 now.  If you have money to burn, you will not be disappointed.  The GM5 has stabilization I think.  So if you have even more money to burn
I've also enjoyed EOSHD even more this year.  So thank you Andrew!!!!
This video is the worst that the GM1 will do!  Every shot was an afterthought to stills.  I have an a6000, and as nice as it is, it is bigger and less video-friendly.  Even though Panasonic didn't fix the mechanical shutter on my GM1, I can't get away from that camera!

Shot with C300 and C100 with Atomos Shogun and Ninja. Canon Cine Primes.
Shot this summer, premiered 31. october

My biggest moment was bringing my A7s to Germany to visit my father in law. He had been stricken by Lassa fever in Sierra Leone eight years ago, rushed to Germany, was in a coma for 6 months, and ended up in a wheel chair for eight years. But then my wife and I got word he started walking in September. So we rushed out from Brooklyn to visit him in Germany. I took my A7s to shoot photos and film this amazing development. But I had to be mindful as he's a proud man (a physician and African Chief). I needed something that would be discrete and unobtrusive. With the silent shutter, ability to shoot from the hip and with no lights or flash, the A7s caught some of the most beautiful moments that I couldn't with another camera. Then when I showed him the technology and what it could do he was completely blown away - and of course got up and walked for the camera.

new firmware is on my nx1 - was so simple to install.  It has enabled 6k IMAX recording and global shutter and 14 444 pro res files and slo mo up to 400,000 FPS and made the camera say "nice shot" everytime I get a good shot.  I highly recommend upgrading.

Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 Nikon 28-70mm f2.8 Nikon 80-200mm f2.8   Can be had for under 3500 and will remain useful long after your NX1 bites the dust..

Do you also have many leather-bound books and an apartment that smells of rich mahogany? C'mon, I've shot Alexa in Arriraw, RED Dragon, F65, and shot a lot of 35mm and 16mm. Commercials, TV and even films. I generally view 2k and 4k footage I've shot on calibrated monitors, and in some cases on cinema screens. But I'm not going to get into a pissing match about whether a $12,000 camera is better than a $1500 camera and try and prove to everybody that 'I'm kind of a big deal' because I'm not. Im a guy who shoots things and uses the best camera for the job.

I also don't invest in expensive cameras because I prefer to choose the camera that suits the project, rather than get overzealous about the camera I have purchased, and force it on every project because I need to justify my purchase.

I own an A7s because it's cheap and gives me a good picture. If I only shot corporate stuff, and shot it on a daily basis, maybe I'd invest in a camera - but I work regularly for many of the major production houses here, and very few own a camera. Many have invested in some lenses, but they rarely purchase their own camera, because even a production house that makes film or commercials every single day of the year knows that every production has different needs.

The A7s isn't really toy feeling. Compared to an Alexa or Epic, maybe - but IMO, even Blackmagics (as well as most/all video SLRs) feel like (and sometimes perform like) toys, especially when you compare them to an Alexa or a 435, for example. The A7s has some of the best low light performance on the market. Sure, maybe it's a tad noisier than other cameras, but I'm yet to see a single other camera that can see in the dark like this one can! You can't even rate a RED higher than about 320ISO without getting unacceptable noise. I push my A7s to ISO3200 in Slog and I'm relatively happy - not like the Epic which I'm cautious of rating at 800, let alone any higher!
Of course the Epic has other uses and features. I wouldn't use an A7s as my A cam on a high budget commercial. But man it gives a damn good image for such a cheap camera!

Oh right, you mean unless you get the necessary adapter to put those lenses on the camera which contains electronic control...
Also, I know you have 150 lenses - did you know that you actually don't need to buy every single lens on the market available for a camera to actually be able to shoot with it? I have 8 primes for my A7s that all up cost me much less than $5000-$10000! Suits me fine - I've never had autofocus, electronic iris or lens stabilisation when shooting with lenses on any actual cinema camera (I know - shock, horror!).
Also, I've got a PL adapter for my A7s so I can put Master Primes on it if I wanted! I'd take an A7s with Master Primes over a 1Dc with Canon still glass any/every day of the week.

The fact that a comparison doesn't exist does not mean the 1Dc is inherently better. It just means no-one has looked to see if it is or not.

Man, you sure sound like a Canon fanboy.

Kodak went down the same path. They failed to innovate with their cameras, and coasted along thinking they would be fine, and they failed! Kodak invented the digital camera, and in 2005 were the number 1 selling camera manufacturer in the US! But they failed to anticipate, failed to innovate, and look where they are now.

Indeed. What's interesting is that none of the defensive posters are actually enthusiasts. One owns an Epic and one's simply just an idiot with a keyboard instead of a camera. The problem with Canon is not the pro $12,000 stuff it is the enthusiast $1k-3k cameras that aren't giving us the innovation we want on the video side. Nobody can defend it, not even Canon themselves. Which is why they are so quiet about it.

Really? A7S not better in low light? Hmm.

No I think you'll find the ergonomics suck as well. Perhaps the most unintuitive camera for video I've ever shot with.

Does your Epic have AF? Thought not. There's a reason for that.

You have your facts wrong. ALL the Canon, Tamron and Sigma lenses have f-stop control and IS via the Metabones adapter to Sony E-mount.

I have seen the A7S's 4K projected at Pinewood Studios. I can tell you what it looks like. It looks superb and it is full frame 4K not 1.3x crop on a 2 year old sensor aka 1D C.

Plenty of info in the blacks there and not too noisy at ISO 1600 if you have a decent exposure like the one shown. If you don't then it does get very crushed and noisy down there.

5dmkIII raw (converted to LOG-C and then rec709):

Sony a7s (cine 4 - color, saturation and contrast dialed down -1, then gamma lowered and shadows raised a bit in FCP X):

My thoughts are that the a7s can give you some nice skin tones and balanced color if you don't try to do S-LOG 2.  I consider midday sun to be a challenging environment for 8-bit cameras, as the color can easily become washed out and desaturated.  I find that I need as much saturation from the camera as possible (without clipping) before processing.  Then I lower the gamma a bit in post and lift the shadows in order to give it more of a filmic shadow response.

What you can't do with the a7s in my experience is extreme shadow recovery like this backlit shot:
