The 1080p looks so much better, but the 720p is usable I guess. I see 720p shots from the 5d Mark II and III that looks a lot better to my eyes.

Nikon D5200 40Mbit/s hack  1280 x 720p Vs. 1920 x 1080p With and without sharpening. Slight color and contrast adjustment. Shoot with Flaat 11. Look in youtube cos here its only 720p. :/

Now the Annoying Fixed horizontal pattern noise is GONE!!! The "Video HQ 40mbps Bit-rate" fot Nikon D5200 hack did it.. The noise is now like in D5300.

Andy- I have it. Its sharp enough, but that's NOT what the OP is asking about. They want something suited for indoor interview situations, and the kit, while being pretty sharp for a kit, is not fast enough to be well suited. At 42mm (since you don't go wide on an interview), it only opens up to f/5.6, which I don't need to tell you pretty much stinks. I'd never go smaller than an f/2.8 in that sort of situation, and even on the widest end it only opens up to 3.5. If you think this kit is an ideal interview lens, I think you're kidding yourself!

This is a short trailer to my a brand new documentary movie about looking for yoga in India. I was used to shoot documentaries by very cheap camcoder but thanks to this forum lately I have switched to a DSLR world.
In my opinion it is possible to make some good shots by cheap camera like Panasonic G6 :-)

People have been saying similar things in the GH4 threads. You really have to look at the context of the video, because at the end of the day, video that isnt made to look cinematic will indeed just look like video. The sensor is only part of what makes an image. For example, in the Gordon Liang video, the weather is overcast with neutral colours, he's using the kit lens and Program priority (meaning it may not even be the right shutter speed). And to top it off, he's shooting at 50 fps. It's just going to look like video no matter what.

Hey, I would love it if you would get the chance to check out a new video that I made. It compiles footage taken of journeys through 8 different countries. It's called "Anywhere, but here" and was shot mostly with a D5200 and GH1 and includes some RX100.

I brought the sample clip into FCP X to inspect on the histogram, and as suspected, it records into the "super-whites", just like many of Sony's cameras.  So by lowering the highlights a bit, you actually recover some more detail and increase the perceived dynamic range.

I also noticed some of the artifacts of poor compression around the shadow areas of flesh tones, which was one of the big drawbacks of the NEX-5n and made it almost impossible to color grade effectively (especially at high ISO).  The RX cameras don't seem to have this problem.

    I'm curious about:

    - Clean HDMI - I doubt it'll be 10-bit, but maybe at least 4:2:2

    - pixel binning: I've noticed that the Rx10 and Rx100 are sharper than the D5200 and 5dmkIII because the RX cameras use full-sensor readout.  Would be great if Sony somehow implemented a similar downscaling method in the A6000.

    - overheating: still an issue?

    - rolling shutter - was awful on the NEX5n; maybe they've taken strides toward improving it.

    - Is video autofocus improved, or just photo?

    - really a pity they didn't go for 35mbps at 60p. Just saying.

This would be nice: How about a 'video form factor' camera with a removable lens mount featuring a 'real' rubber cupped viewfinder (plus a flip out/upside down touch screen) with an almost Super 35 sized a 16 Megapixel (APS-C) sensor which doesn't overheat and shoots unlimited length HD to SD cards but also captures RAW 5K stills and excellent audio too with full manual control yet offers a 'clean' 4:2:2 HDMI output and shoots 50/60P at up to 28Mbps, unhacked. How about we add focus peaking, focus expansion and adjustable 75% or 100% zebra, all on/off at the same time with full manual iris/gain/ISO/shutter control? Body only price? Around $1.5K. Interested?

Sorry DSLR guys, you're too late! It's been available for nearly two years. Sony's NEX VG20.

I thought I made it crystal clear what the intent of the video was in the video description and original post. Again, if I'd posted a creative piece that I wanted creative feedback on, I would have asked for it. Glad you enjoyed it, but I'm not going to get into a pissing match over this with anyone. I learned what I needed to from this personal test. If my method of sharing it wasn't to your liking, then so be it. It was a PERSONAL camera test I thought I'd share. I get bored looking at test footage of traffic going over a bridge, trees in the wind, waves on the beach, etc. etc. I shot footage on a trip I recently took to see how the camera would perform for ME. I thought some here might get something out of it. Nothing more.

When I post something creative, and want feedback about the creative, the edit, the voice over, the audio design, etc. I will ask "hey, what do you all think?". For a glorified camera test, I'm not looking for feedback. I'm simply sharing. I didn't even ask for feedback on my grading.

I posted this for other's here to see what I got from the camera. I'm done with it. I've actually already moved on to cutting clips for stock video sale and am uploading as I type this. If this were a project that I cared to develop, I'd gladly listen to creative critique on the audio, etc. Then, I'd mull it over, and take another stab at it. Instead, I learned what I needed and am moving on to concentrate on an actual project next. Understand?

Again, in case you missed it. The video I uploaded was random shots while I was traveling in Mexico recently. I wanted to see if I could get acceptable results from minimal gear in my backpack. I discovered that I could. I also wanted to see the differences in real world shooting in the field between different picture profiles. And finally, which of the profiles worked the best for my own visual style and which worked the best for the limited grading experience I have. Also, wanted to confirm that I wasn't making a mistake by not investing in a much more cumbersome and expensive raw workflow. I learned that the compressed Nikon D5300, if shot well, holds up well to grading and produces an acceptable image for my needs. No need to spend any more time comparing, buying, shopping, looking at tests, etc. Now time to learn how to use what I have and apply it to a cool project, instead of wasting time. ;)

Decided to add narration I'd already recorded and I actually like it. To do a voice over talking about the camera and such is not my job. I didn't need that for myself. I shot it, played with grading. Thought it was boring without sound, so I slapped a loosely related narrative I'd already recorded over it, with some catchy royalty free music. Done and done.

    You're welcome.

Has anyone figured out a good way to remove video noise? I am not talking the removing grain, I mean the repetitive noise for example that the RX100 displays when shot at high ISO. In this case it comes out as blue splotches... I have tried neat video, but I can't seem to find good settings.

    Any help would be appreciated...

If you are that easily offended, don't watch something hosted by Seth MacFarlane. That much is very, very simple. I didn't see it all, but he seemed pretty tame and generally came across as a likeable guy.

Joaquin's brother died from taking heroin and cocaine..... Hardly a "med" and hardly related to a very mild gag about Joaquin saying some strange stuff.
