Aputure DEC is very affordable, especially if you're already adapting lenses. Wouldn't be too hard to use with a gimbal at all.

Just finished a wedding edit on the new version. I'm pleased. Seems a bit snappier and less prone to slowdown even once the project/timeline gets really big. 4K seems to edit a little easier. The last version had memory leak issues, which was driving me nuts. Really happy with this version so far (fingers crossed)

Sure I used it a lot. Overall it is fantastic because the build quality is fairly high, it is light and so compact for travel and it is extremely quick to setup. Most times when I was re-balancing I was doing it while walking to another site. Oh and it's really nice to be able to put down on the ground as well. I used to set it down so I could shoot with another camera.
But, all that being said, it is nowhere near as good as a gimbal. I just picked up a gimbal (see other thread in forum, 2nd page ish) and it is sooo much easier to fly. I am talking when there is wind, when you are walking fast etc.... The gimbal gives you better shots at a higher percentage. It is a bit less fluid, but the problem is with all non gimbal stabilizers like the came h4 do better with lot's of weight which sucks. The gimbals are ok with little weight from what I have experienced.
I know a gimbal is a bit more money and it's electronic, but a good gimbal is a better rig to have in your bag I think.

Ah yes, good point. Too bad it doesn't have a mic input... the rx100 is a fantastic little cam.

    Agree to disagree then.
Seriously, it's just vlogging. Any hybrid made in the past year will work more than adequately.
And it doesn't matter a whole lot what camera one uses in bad light.
    Bad light is bad light.

So I got my Zhiyun Crane in the mail last week right before a shoot out West and I decided to leave my other stabilizer at home. Delivery was extremely quick with the priority shipping and the customer service on their Facebook site (messaged them) was fantastic.
I had some small problems with the stabilizer, but all in all it is quite a step up over a steady cam. This is my first gimbal and I have to admit I wasn't really trying to keep it steady that much as I should have. It seems like it's magic (which it pretty much is), but you definitely still need to practice to make it perfect.
Let me know if you have any questions

Sorry wasn't trying to be mean, but when someone is blaming a product for not being good and it's really due to their lack of knowledge well then let's call a spade a spade. A forum full of knowledgeable people are trying to help and the op is being stubborn in my opinion. This post is almost troll like. Maybe that is why I am caught up wasting time typing this out? Dunno...

mojo43 reacted to Timotheus in How I got scammed through "Ebrahim Saadawi"
I love this place as I find inspiration and positive energy here, so I don't like posting something negative, but I feel you need to be warned.
A month ago I paid @Ebrahim Saadawi for a SLR Magic Rangefinder he offered for sale both on this site and on dvxuser. He had previously done an extensive review of the Rangefinder, also posted on the EosHD forum. I assumed he was selling this unit; he told me he had no use for it and no interested buyers in Egypt. As he claimed there were no other payment options in Egypt than Western Union money transfer and knowing his excellent track record on the forum, I decided to give it a go. Yeah, really stupid me I guess.
He went totally silent after my payment confirmation on June 17th. I sent four update requests since then through the forum's message service, which he all read (the site shows you this). Also messages through Instagram and email. Still no reply. Being certain (and baffled) that I was scammed I was considering what to do. Then I read @Tito Ferradans cautionary tale in Facebook's anamorphic shooters group of a LOMO scam he barely escaped (he also posted that on this site). On Facebook, another group member, Tomas, mentioned he also bought a Rangefinder from Egypt. Same seller, same story.
So we have the second highest rated EosHD account ever (second only to Andrew himself) through which at least two people have been scammed. Now here is the catch: the account of Ebrahim is used by two people. Ebrahim senior, and his grandson Ebrahim junior (the profile signature also mentions this). The other buyer did get in contact with the seller, which turned out to be Ebrahim junior.
It looks like Senior has build quite the reputation with posts I myself have also greatly enjoyed and learnt from. Junior pisses all over it now with this crap. We'll see if this post helps him reconsider, at any rate, other forum members may be prevented of becoming 'fools' (as Junior so sympathetically described me).

They must have changed how they do it because the version I received has a latch per leg. Works like a charm The general build quality seems good, One of the screws is a bit loose, but works well. I didn't get to try mine out either. I can just say that if you are trying to balance quickly, this is eternities better than the flycam.

I am exactly wondering the same thing. I am considering switching to a gimbal, but I just want to mount my camera and go. I don't want to deal with any headaches. I am using the flycam nano as well and it still works really well for me. Any huge advantages with the gimbal system over a flycam?

You can do it in two ways....
    1) In post you ramp a post zoom in and the cut to another shot that is zoom in and stops (in 4k you won't see degradation of the zoom in)
    2) You do it in each shot. Typically what people do is shoot a clip and then zoom out. Take it again, zoom in. Take it again pan left, then again pan right. Tilt up and then down. Then you have all options to work with in post.

They cut on motion. Follow similar motion either by creating it in post or match motion from clip to clip.
    Hope that helps...

Why not archive everything? Adding the original card to a project archive will be among the smaller files compared to ProRes, effects pre-renders, etc. Seems silly to toss anything.
Unless you guys are archiving on CD-ROMs or something. I just use a drive dock, get the plastic drive boxes, and use 500GB or 1TB raw drives. Every couple months it costs me $50 or so.
Eventually I'll put a server in the garage in a refrigerator or something (they tend to survive fires and minor floods/water leaks, I'm not in a flood/earthquake/hurricane area) and cat-5 it into the system for a 2nd set of archives. But I have a closet with (as of now) 16 raw drives in plastic boxes and do occasionally have to pull a file from one. I never agonize about what to toss, and usually have all the email threads about a gig, bids, contracts, releases, maps, footage, AE and edit files, renders, and a final ProRes 1080 that can be output to any new formats that come along. I keep a spreadsheet with the key folder names so I can find the right drive in a second.

Sure, you could put a 5" monitor onto of the camera but it then looses it's stealth quality. Not a solution. Seems ridiculous that the screen and EVF darken when hitting the record button. Makes all Sony cameras totally unusable for me ... I simply can not see anything on the LCD in bright light.. Must have something to do with overheating I guess. I hope this is fixed in the next round of A7 cameras. Doesn't happen in other 4k internal shooting cameras ... only Sony have this problem.
