Philip Lipetz got a reaction from iamoui in Cinema5D slates the Panasonic GH5, calls V-LOG and 10bit "unusable" - They're wrong
Jonpais when the moderator starts to post sacarcasric comments about several forum members it sets the wrong tone. Are you sure this is the example you want to make? I really hope that this just reflects a bad day. And I hope that you soon feel better

BTW am I worried about this "problem?" Not at all. And I did not mean to imply that I was. I was shocked to be asked if I was cancelling our nonprofit's orders. Absolutely not. the majority of our work goes to the web, and no one will ever notice. Not even me. If I ever need to shoot for the big screen I will use our Atomos, or 400mbs.

James Miller demonstrates that this is an codec problem that disappears when an external recorder is used, suggesting that the 400mps upgrade will help or elimaite this occasional problem.

Philip Lipetz reacted to Fritz Pierre in Cinema5D slates the Panasonic GH5, calls V-LOG and 10bit "unusable" - They're wrong
Just looked at Martin Walgren's footage of his short Film Winters grip...this footage looks as good as anything I see from top cinema cameras...thought I'd just toss in my totally subjective little "review" of a properly filmed Gh5... my review also maybe has a place in this thread, as it seems it' easily as subjective, as the one Cinema5D did. I did not blow anything up to 400 percent, as I will not be using the camera in the way, cine5D seems to be intent on. The images I wanted to see were right in front of me and in normal aspect completely satisfied my needs...amazing stabilization...flawless functioning, in obviously freezing temperatures, and I hope the clip I watched was shot on Leica 12-69....just confirmed in the comment section....so my conclusion...if you want a stunning image that grades well...shoots well, under trying conditions and a system that's extremly robust, the GH5 is the right camera for you!....if you want to use a camera the way cine5D does....perhaps I'd recommend the Canon C700...it little bit more expensive!!!...but when you blow it up 400 percent, the C700 really come into it's own!!!

Philip Lipetz got a reaction from Cas1 in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
The only thing that really concerns me is the suggestion made by several people and threads spread throughout the web that the 10 bit information is produced by dithering an eight bit internal signal. There is absolutely no evidence that this is true, but it is being reported as a possible explanation for this and other phenomenal reported in GH5 testing. Again There is absolutely no evidence that this is true, they suggest the dithering arises in the compression to 150mbs.

Philip Lipetz reacted to theSUBVERSIVE in Cinema5D slates the Panasonic GH5, calls V-LOG and 10bit "unusable" - They're wrong
Yeah, these were almost exactly my comments there. C5D does far too often technical mistakes like this, it happens in basically every article. They look more knowledgeable than they actually are and I've seen this in so many articles, enough so I follow the news, but take any technical report with a grain of salt.
They are confusing compression issues with color depth issues, two very distinctive things, propagating terrible misinformation for those that know even less than they do.
To clear this up, they should have done an external recording to rule out compression and codec issues before jumping into 10-bit is no good. Plus, I'm not really into this level of pixel peeping anyway. They even missed some other observations about the other cameras artifacts or even other GH5's advantages too.
In the end, they are spreading a lot of misinformation which will only confuse even more people that already don't eff understand what color depth and chroma subsampling is, this is already a complicated topic to discuss out there because there are already a lot of poorly done tests about this matter and this isn't doing it any favor at all.

Since you like 16mm shooting, use the 4K ETC crop mode on the GH5 to get a 4K to 3.6k S16 window for your S16 lenses

Better autofocus requires a better sensor, since dual pixel autofocus technology is sensor-based, which Sony refuses to sell them. Perhaps that is why Panasonic has announced that the GH6 will be with a Panasonic developed sensor.

There is an ETC crop mode that takes a 4K pixel crop of the sensor. It is a 2.7 to 2.8 (different reports) compared to the 2x crop of the full Sensor 5k downsized to 4K mode. The 4K ETC mode uses the same 9x9 pixel debayering pattern as the full sensor mode

I don't know why people are so stressed about their metabones Columbus veering the gh5 sensor, just use the 4K crop mode if your adapter doesn't cover the full sensor.

really nice 4K 60p (so I assume 4:2:0 given the current firmware) adventure film. Very entertaining look at gorge tightrope waliking.

His sin is making videography seem like fun, and the act of filming being its own reward. We all know that the only real purpose of filming is to get positive comments on the video blogs.
