James Miller demonstrates that this is an codec problem that disappears when an external recorder is used, suggesting that the 400mps upgrade will help or elimaite this occasional problem.

BTW am I worried about this "problem?" Not at all.  And I did not mean to imply that I was. I was shocked to be asked if I was cancelling our nonprofit's orders. Absolutely not. the majority of our work goes to the web, and no one will ever notice. Not even me. If I ever need to shoot for the big screen I will use our Atomos, or 400mbs.

  2.  The only thing that really concerns me is the suggestion made by several people and threads spread throughout the web that the 10 bit information is produced by dithering an eight bit internal signal. There is absolutely no evidence that this is true, but it is being reported as a possible explanation for this and other phenomenal reported in GH5 testing. Again There is absolutely no evidence that this is true, they suggest the dithering arises in the compression to 150mbs.

For sure - when I pre-ordered my GH5, I did it knowing that I will, most likely, be limited to ISO1600 - which, as I stated before, is absolutely fine with my shooting style.

The first camera I was trained on back in 2005 was a Canon Scoopic 16mm with film speeds of ASA20 to ASA640. I guess that experience shaped my shooting style till this day.

Definitely has its limits in low-light - if people are shooting in situations that require ISO100,000, then Blackmagic is not for them.

I had an A7S with a Atomos Shogun. I thought the 4K 8-bit 422 would help with the colour-science and banding. After multiple tests side by side against my BMPCC, I sold the A7S and Shogun combo immediately.

I think I was spoilt by being taught on 16mm. The magic of having my first 16mm footage projected really ingrained (no pun intended) in me the type of fidelity I wanted my images to have. I've been chasing it ever since. I think that's why I love the BMPCC so much - it's the closest I've ever gotten to it by means of a digital format.

I'd shoot 16mm if I had the funds, but what's more, it's next to impossible here in Australia - have to send the film away off-shore to have in processed. Hard to rent high-quality 16mm cameras and lenses too.

I really hope Blackmagic releases a BMPCC 2.0 - perhaps with the 2.5K sensor and 60FPS - that would be beautiful.

Since you like 16mm shooting, use the 4K ETC crop mode on the GH5 to get a 4K to 3.6k S16 window for your S16 lenses

At 8:35 : confirmed that the AF sucks.

What a shame. As he says AF aside this camera has everything really 4k60p, brillant image with 10 bit, 5 axis stab, small package, ....
Come on, why on earth did they think with this decade old AF system. Seriously pissed since it is a feature I hardly live without on gimbal...

Better autofocus requires a better sensor, since dual pixel autofocus technology is sensor-based, which Sony refuses to sell them. Perhaps that is why Panasonic  has announced that the GH6 will be with a Panasonic developed sensor.

I thought there was no more crop in 4K? ?

There is an ETC crop mode that takes a 4K pixel crop of the sensor. It is a 2.7 to 2.8 (different reports) compared to the 2x crop of the full Sensor 5k downsized to 4K mode. The 4K ETC mode uses the same 9x9 pixel debayering pattern as the full sensor mode

Im not sure I understand all the hate towards that video. Thought it was fine for what it is. I learned a thing or two about the GH5 from it. And its not like I paid the guy.

His sin is making videography seem like fun, and the act of filming being its own reward. We all know that the only real purpose of filming is to get positive comments on the video blogs.
