  1. The upgrade to a CC sub is very cheap if you have a CS6 licence. I pay about £17/month. CS6 is part of the sub as there is no other way to get Encore except with Premiere Pro CS6 so Adobe continue to support & provide bug fixes for CS6.
  2. Why would you want to use Cineform when you already have ProRes with FCP 7? People use Cineform on Windows because they don't have ProRes or on Macs because they need to inter work with Windows. There is no real difference between using ProRes & using Cineform as they ar both near lossless intermediate editing CODECs.
  3.   Presumably Olympus are getting something out of not competing. After the scandal their financial status must be pretty poor otherwise why would they license their fabulous stabilisation technology to Sony instead of keeping it as a USP?
  4. The only conclusion is that they have agreed with Panasonic or more likely Sony that they will only provide basic video functions so as not to compete with these other manufacturers.
  5. Check out Andrew's link to the Adobe blog as there are a load more new features being added next month. Speedgrade operating directly on Premiere Pro sequences looks to be the stand out.
  6. Some people like the character of old lenses. I used to have a full set of FD lenses including the 14mm F/2.8L & 50mm F/1.2L for my AF101 & GH2 & TBH I wasn't happy with any of them. They were simply not as sharp as any of the MFT lenses even aside from odd colour casts & flares. I was much happier using nice modern sharp MFT lenses with AF & IS even though the old FD lenses are so beautifully made & so solid & hard wearing that they still look like new after 30 years.
  7. For anyone who wants an affordable control surface for use with DaVinci Resolve instead of their $30K hardware I have listed on eBay an unused Tangent Wave CP300. I bought it new from Jigsaw 24 just under 18 months ago & it has literally never been used beyond plugging it in the check it works.   BTW I hope it's OK to post this link but I know that there are people using Resolve especially with BMCC and with 5D3 RAW and might be looking for a great control surface at a bargain price so please think of this as a Public Service Announcement :)   http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171121061035
  8. I am really enjoying using my new OM-D that I bought after seeing Andrew's demo. So far I am only using the Panasonic 14mm F/2.5 but the 2x crop mode effectively gives me another 28mm lens at the single press of a button. The 5-way IBIS is simply amazing & allows rock steady hand held use. I can do great fake jib shots & slider shots hand held however the one use that doesn't quite live up to expectations is as a fake Steadicam walking along as while shakes are removed the footage looks strangely robotic.
  9.     or even better grab a few 3TB external drives at £85 each   http://www.ebuyer.com/434461-toshiba-3tb-stor-e-canvio-external-hard-drive-hdwc130ew3j1
  10. The technology is similar to what is being used with R/C helicopters & that has matured very rapidly in the last year or two. There are going to be a whole load of similar devices at lower & lower prices. Here's one from Varizoom http://www.varizoom.com/product-p/flowcam.htm   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTi-Tb_7lRA
  11. The engadget video got pulled from YouTube but a 720p version is available for download from here http://ul.to/9pf6imwp Check out the last 30 seconds for an amazing demo of the IBIS. I had at first thought that they were using the WiFi Live View demonstrated earlier in the clip but in fact it's a video monitor so presumably the Live View HDMI out works unlike the current OM-D which is playback only.
  12.   I need to revisit this & test it some more as despite using Full HD Normal I noticed smearing & macro-blocking in a test clip that I just recorded walking around the garden with lots of plants. Just as with the GH1/2 it's the trees & leaves that break the CODEC.
  13. The video that appeared then disappeared from gadget is now on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXgS95cgUwQ   I don't think it looks that bad. The current OM-D really needs the add-on grip to make it more comfortable to hold. That's the right hand grip not the battery grip underneath. That grip looks to now be extremely sculpted on the new OM-D but could well be for ergonomic reasons.
  14. I was just about to post that :) Evidently a video being readied on engadget for the launch next month was leaked. This is the new OM-D E-M1 which is not the replacement for the current OM-D E-M5 but will be in addition to. It looks like a chunkier more traditional DSLR-like camera with extra control dials. Unfortunately the video has been taken down but there is some interesting stuff in the comments from those who did see it. They mention 60p video so it seems likely that 24p will be included but hopefully it will be a world model with 25p/50p like the Canon DSLRs not separate NTSC & PAL models like the Panasonic.
  15. I just got an OM-D mainly for a decent stills camera that fits in my pocket but the video is a revelation. The 5-way IBIS is absolutely amazing. You can emulate dolly & slider shots & hand hold shots without fear of shake.   It seems that very few people are using the OM-D seriously for video. It has been promoted quite heavily to Pro photographers but they are no more interested in the video on the OM-D than they are with the video on the 5D3 or D800. It is capable of amazing stuff.   One really important thing is not to use what looks to be the best video mode i.e. Full HD Fine as this breaks up into macro-blocking far too easily. The mode to use is Full HD Normal which doesn't suffer from mud & macro-blocking. The bit rate for each of these modes appears to be the same at just over 17Mbps so it looks like when in Full HD Fine it 'tries' too hard & falls apart. It may be OK for static scenes but I found that it broke up just with panning over different backgrounds.   I am still experimenting with picture styles & want to come up with something that will match my Canon 5D3 with Faithful which gives me the least amount of work necessary in post. The colours out of the OM-D are very natural. The Automatic WB is very very good. Zebras are great.   As so few people are using this camera seriously for video there is precious little information available but I would welcome any other OM-D user like Andrew to chip in. This camera has great potential. All it needs is a FW update to give us 24/25p.
  16. It all depends what you are filming & what your requirements are as to whether moire is a problem & whether buying a VAF-TXi  is worth the money. Until the original VAF appeared we just had to live with moire on the 5D2 & you learn to avoid bricks, tiles & other patterns that will start shimmering. TBH unless you are shooting for TV or a feature then nobody really cares about  moire. Joe Public is used to seeing the newsreader's shirt shimmering on the TV & it's only video guys who obsess about moire.
  17. I assume that would be the NTSC 30p/60p version rather than the 25p/50p PAL version although I see that you are in the UK.
  18. Oh dear. Just noticed that it only has 30p. I could care less about 24p but 25p is important for us here in PAL-land i.e. the whole world bar the US & a few other countries. Not impossible I suppose as we were shooting 30p with the original 5D2 firmware but it was a pain to re-time it & in those early days of DSLR video we were converting it all to Pro Res anyway as we couldn't edit native files.
  19. Are there any sample video files from the OM-D (uncompressed & unedited i.e. straight off the SD card) available for download? This camera is highly rated for stills (unlike the other MFT cameras) & the OIS is amazing so I might be tempted to get one.
  20. Wow! I see that CVP actually have stock at last of the original BMCC EF mount. I do check occasionally & this is the very first time that I have seen they had stock http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/index.php?t=product/blackmagic_cinema_camera   So on this basis you can expect to be able to buy a Pocket Camera or 4K off the shelf in time for Xmas 2014.
  21. I imagine that the pessimism is because they cannot even manage to ship the very first model BMCC that was supposed to ship over a year ago. This is still not available for purchase anywhere that I can find in the UK. You can order it but nowhere has stock.
  22. If you want to carry on using Encore for authoring DVDs & Blu-rays then you need to install Premiere Pro CS6 as they have not provided a CC version of Encore. It's a bummer because while you can still create the discs it means that you cannot use dynamic linking with PP CC so need to render out the finished files before importing into Encore.
  23. OK, I just figured out how to install it. The installation instructions are wrong. They tell you to put the folder containing the plugin file in:-   /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-Ins/CS6/   when i fact it needs to go with all the other plug-ins in:-   /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-Ins/CS6/MediaCore/
  24. Canon has been promoting the idea of video/stills fusion with the 1DC i.e. shooting video but getting excellent stills 'for free'. There are occasions e.g. sports reportage where 25fps 8 Megapixel images could be useful but the regular 1DX stills camera will shoot 12-14fps at full resolution even the 5D3 shoots 6fps.
  25. Hype is just what this is as it doesn't work in practice because of the necessity of a fixed shutter speed when shooting video. The shutter speed for 25fps is 1/50 which means that while you can with luck pull some nice images from a camera like the C300 the vast majority of the images will be spoiled by motion blur. Shoot at higher shutter speeds & the motion in video gets wacky. Shooting 1/100 at 50fps or 1/120 at 60fps might work but there are many cameras that have high frame rate, a large enough image & high resolution
