  1. Nice work, that sigma is a beast.
  2. Thee footage i've seen off the 5D2 actually looks better than most of what i've seen from the 5D3, but the sample size isn't that big. I really havent seen much from the 7D. But i think there are more people working on the 5D code then the 7D because of the dual chip processing.
  3. Time to test out those new thread merging abilities mods!
  4. Did you notice the stripes in the dark areas without ANY adjustment in post? I've never had this issue unless I shoot dark and then lift. Sometimes it only takes a little bit of lifting to make it look like an insect swarm. Always shoot 800 iso, when shooting expose as far right as possible so expose to 95% or 99% zebra and drop exposure in post. This will give you good shadow detail and minimize noise. The 13 stops DR is legit, but it get's really crunchy if you try to push the bottom end of the range. If you want, post some clips on dropbox and we can check them out.
  5. The problem is that the data requirements are prohibitively large. AFAIK there is no way to feasibly get professional looking high resolution, high bit depth images, and still maintain all the of the flexibility in focus without blowing up the file size.
  6. Read speeds still matter though. Obviously the SSD is able to write the speed fast enough from my BMCC so it should be able to be read at at least the same speed. If i try to edit of my internal HDD i don't get real-time playback 7200rpm is just not fast enough. But if i edit off my external thunderbolt raid array, or even my SSD via USB3.0, i'm fine. Although all of that is on my iMac, my work laptop is a PC I'm still thinking i should be able to read the 4K 10 bit footage off my SSD. ~700Mbps is well below the maximum read speed of my SSD.
  7. Hmmm. The BMCC Raw should actually be more Mbps right? And I am able to play that back realtime in Resolve. But I guess that uses proxies though?
  8. Anyone else having trouble with playback on the original file? I know quicktime does weird things on PC, but i got real choppy playback. I have a pretty beast laptop too: Dell m4800 with i7-4900MQ, 2GB Quadro K2100M, SSD.
  9. Its shots like at 0:34 that you cannot get on any other cam (in that price range) right now.
  10. USB3 is kinda hard to find on really cheap laptops. You might want to check out a used 13 inch Mac Book Air. Its got USB3, flash memory (USB3 is slower to/from the standard 5200rpm laptop drives), and an SD slot. Plus, a newer version is about to drop so the used market should be ok. But I don't know. New shit comes out every day, so it's quite possible there is a much cheaper solution out there, but it probably won't be less than $700.
  11. I remember seeing some outstanding shots from the original s35 kineraw...but then it never came out or something.
  12. You might want to wait until the end of the year. There is always a chance that Canon might do something awesome with raw in the 7Dii, but i'm becoming increasingly pessimistic about it. You also might want to try renting the 5D and seeing if you like(or can handle) the raw workflow.
  13. This. This cuts down the work for you, and insulates you (somewhat) from criticism about what gets cut from the forum. You can just tell people to take it up with the mods. It allows you to play good cop to the mod's bad cop. It's worth a shot anyway. It's obviously something you could undo. You might also consider a "shitlist" topic where all complaints can be logged. This will help to avoid the appearance that you are silencing critics, and allow you to remove these type of posts from what are otherwise on-topic threads (and then moving them to the shitlist).
  14. Are you recording in raw? And are you filling the card up before overwriting? If i fill up my SSD, and then do a delete (without formatting), i am pretty much guaranteed to drop frames on my next shot. And i'm pretty sure the 100+ MB/s in close to the maximum write speed of the disks, so any fragmentation of the drive will lead to dropped frames.
  15. I've decided that my next camera is going to be medium format. I don't care if I have to wait another 3 years. I want it.
  16. Yah, wrong forum. But thanks for reminding me that the BM cams put the Sony cams to shame! Although in all seriousness, the shot composition is pretty good for what it's trying to do.
  17. " Their existing Cinema and Pocket Camera user base is lost. It’s over. These users will switch to the Panasonic GH4 and Sony A7S" Why? Do these cameras offer 12-bit raw? Nope.
  18. Are histograms really that important, when you can shoot in raw and use peaking? + you can always use ultra-scopes.
  19. I agree. The GH4 looks better than most of what I've seen from the 1DC.
  20. It's not that, it's just that we had 10+ pages of this debate in the other thread :D
  21. Colors on the pocket still looked the best, but that's probably because it had a different white balance. It's amazing how bad the h264 from the 5D3 looks now compared to the other cameras.
