  1. Assuming you can afford the $10-20K to get said "half-decent lawyer"
  2. http://comicbook.com/blog/2014/05/17/lord-of-the-rings-star-viggo-mortensen-bashes-the-sequels-the-hobbit-too-much-cgi/ I didn't know where to put this, but I thought it was an interesting read. I totally agree with Viggo's sentiments about the value of the organic of the first LOTR movie.
  3. Great subtle movements in the time-lapses. It makes them much more impactful. What did you use to get that movement?
  4. NIce! RAW on mkii is my favorite of the Canon cams.
  5. Good luck, Andrew. Just remember to watch out for that slippery slope that you've just walked onto...
  6. Shooting in bright sunlight I always slap a 1.2 on. Sometimes i'll go to the 2.0 if i really want to open up the lens. I think variable NDs are more important if you are shooting live events.
  7. Please explain: i use Arri 650 fresnels and never noticed IR pollution on the BMCC or BMPCC.
  8. Movie wouldn't have worked because some of the camera movements required 180 flips. If i was a musician, I'd rather be famous for gimmicky videos than gimmicky music.
  9. From my experience this is true. If you start to try and record over previously used sections of your disk with the BMCC you will start to drop frames while recording raw, guaranteed. Deleting clips doesn't do anything, you need to format. But overall, I like this update from BM. I haven't touched mine since v1.2.
  10. Most of the +/- s have been listed here. Personally, i think it's silly to get a 5D, just to shoot RAW video. I also think the BMPCC is a better system and has a better image. But if i needed a stills camera too, it makes the decision a lot harder.
  11. Better camera i guess, but it doesn't look as good to me.
  12. Honestly I think none of the recent 4k cameras can hold a candle to the image of the BMPCC and the BMCC.
  13. I did. It wasn't clear. I guess i needed to know what ground glass is. But no worries. Maxotics sorted it out. This isn't really a true 70mm prototype. That's why i was confused.
  14. I doubt he'd have a problem with that at all, as long as you give attribution.
  15. I'm confused. How did they get that big imaging area with the pocket camera sensor? Did they use 4 of them?
  16. wrt the 10-18mm: Personally, i feel like 4.5 isn't fast enough for a APSC sensor...but it is damn cheap, so it might be perfect for someone on a budget.
  17. Wow, this thread is fired up. I really think the GH4 looks good, maybe surprisingly so, but then so does the GH3. Both cameras can hang with the 5D3R raw if you put them in the right setting and use them in the right way. I see the GH4 as a nice improvement over the last generation, but it's lack of raw support means it's not for me.
  18. I think what Max was saying is that the 5D3R would give you much better contrast and detail in low contrast lighting environment, especially if you tried to give it more contrast in post.
  19. IMO they didn't do a great job lighting it, or editing it. It's really hard to tell because it looks like the shots were framed right, they just didn't come out. Granted, i've already seen footage that looks much better than this from the gh4, so i know it can do better. On the whole it's what i expect, a great image with a limited amount of latitude in post. But honestly it looks like they didn't even try and grade it.
  20. ^Damn, part of me feels like Film-Convert is like cheating. It looks so good.
  21. If it's a consistent whine there should be a straightforward solution. Most noise reduction program's allow you to take a sample that includes only the background noise (it doesn't need to be that long) and it will take it right out. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/noisereduction ^ this is overpriced but you should be able to find the older versions for free on the internets (if you are on PC). They are just as good. Also, A version of it may come bundled free with SoundForge which is now available on MAC. SoundForge is fucking awesome, btw. Adobe Audition (which you get with creative cloud) also has a version of noise reduction that uses the same technique http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/easy_noise-nuking_with_sound_forge_9 ^ This describes the process. Either way it will probably take some finagling. But i've used Sony Noise reduction and SoundForge to save takes for lead vocals that sounded like absolute crap because of terrible background noise. If you want to upload the audio (or small portion of it) i'd be willing to take a crack at it.
