"Ethics" and "moral standards" are tossed around the article as if there are any. Everyone has an opinion about what should or shouldn't happen, but no one is willing to own up to an actual objective standard of morality with which to base said opinions. With no objective moral standard, who can really say Paul is wrong? You can't. I mean, you can, but not with any soundness to your position. With no moral foundation, none of you are right, or wrong.

The 20th century was all about eliminating objective morality. The 21st century is living with the consequences.

I agree.  - but we democratized the platform and now we have Logan Paul.  At least in the 20th, there was a sense of duty when it came to quality...  There was a bar, even if the 80's gave us "Gotcha" the paintball movie.  I'm kinda with Ridley Scott at the director's round table when he says 1000 films a year is probably 500 too many.  There is no filter anymore, no plot, and people don't demand more from their entertainment.... So there again, we have Logan Paul.

  2. If you've ever suffered 5 minutes of Youtube Kids, your "algorithm" statement is completely correct.  Watch Sonic the Hedgehog drive Lightning Mcqueen off a skyscraper 1500 feet onto a farting velociraptor with breasts and Don Johnson loafers...  while "Daddy Finger" repeats in the background.

I kind of hate that social media has given literally everyone a voice when I see Logan Paul as an example.  -Since feeling special and accepted is an ingrained part of every human being's natural make-up, social media, Youtube, etc.. - keeps us buried in our phones, constantly seeking value in "likes" and whatever trivial bullshit virtual currency there is.  It's a breeding ground for ill-advised priorities and narcissism.   Even if it’s just subscribing, you’re piggy backing a sense of community for the almighty motive - attention.  Everything is literally based on attention.  It drives the motive of most media "outrage" these days with a voice that says "Judge this motherf---er.  It's trendy."   or some idiot's default response to go full LiveLeak on a dead body.

    F'king Nightcrawler.  He's done.

  3. Hello All:)

I ran into a bump with a video export last year to Vimeo.  - A couple of hippie friends that ask me to follow them around at their wedding, lol.  (Not a pro job at all:)..   The motion just does not look good at all when I watch it on Vimeo though....  Very choppy.  My original export from Resolve is smooth as hell.   I'm attaching the video.  You can see it very clearly in the opening shot.  It was shot 60p and looks like slowed down 24p.  Just curious if that's a Vimeo thing and if not, what the best settings to Vimeo export might be.  Thanks in advance!

@Germy1979 oh yeah, full continuous 14bit 1080p at 24p is completely stable with clean, color liveview. Once installed, on an SD card, recording with a 1066x CF works like any camera on the market... except you get Raw video and every other goody that ML included. 60p is also possible at a lesser resolution but I don’t think it’s continuous at 14bit. With the new Lite modes, you can supposedly record it in 10 or 12bit though. But I haven’t tried the Lite modes yet. If you can handle a choppy liveview, you can record continuous Lite Raw in crop mode at 3.5K. Andrew has a post about it on his blog.

You righteous soul!  Thank you:)  You can get lost in all the forums on ML raw, lol.  We're shooting a short this winter and I have a 5D3 with ML raw at disposal.  It would be pointless though if I couldn't watch what I just shot

  5. Hello guys!  I’ve been out of the loop for a while on ML raw capabilities.  I really just want to shoot 1080p 14-bit raw at 24p on the Mark 3.  (Maybe some occasional 60p).   I was curious if you can preview clips in real time yet without the choppy black & white that i remember.  This is for the Mark 3 with a good card.

No, the Alexa LUT does this to un corrected GH5 footage plus Zeiss lenses are known for shifting this way as well.

I guess to me there is one clue to look at here to get an idea.  Or should I say, two clues.

Off topic, but this lens makes all other lenses seem inferior.  It is heads and shoulders above all other lenses!

I think I see what you did there, lol..

My guess would be a larger sensor.  - but you can get razor thin DOF with a Voigtlander on a M43 sensor too, sooo... I'm probably wrong.

images are looking amazeballs!  I look at GH5 footage, and it generally looks way too detailed to me.  These look much smoother from high to low.

OK, I usually try to post on this forum only if I have information to share, but in this case I find it absurd that people expect every new camera to be a RED for less than $3000.

People were shooting big budget features on shitty 8 bit 1080p when the 5DII came out and hailing it as the best non-film image ever.

If you need more: Buy. A. More. Expensive. Camera.

    Get some perspective.

    Thank you.

This isn’t Gearslutz.  You don’t need to be a condescending dick on the internet.  Bitching about  S-log in an 8-bit  codec isn’t being ungrateful, it’s questioning innovation and crippling to protect your $10,000 cameras when  the GH5 offers 10-bit for $2000.

Boom.  Perspective.  Dismount your high horse dude.

  8. Hello all,

With all the cameras that have been announced over the last year or so, I've kind of found an online love affair with the X-T2..  From what little footage I've seen from it, it just looks amazing to me, - almost better than most - and that's just straight out of camera.  - but I don't hear much about it at all.  I'd love to see some more footage of a cinematic nature perhaps, hear some feedback from existing users??

No picture profiles is a bit of a disaster and shows that they are not aiming at video shooters with this.

Seems Sony would much rather we buy a 10bit 4:2:2 A7S 3... With picture profiles.

Looks like we will have to hold off on the purchase and wait to see what NAB brings!

    Boom.

  10. The C500 is 12 stops & I love that thing.  (Here is a great video shot at 1080 internally with it:

anyway, it's a clean 12 stops in terms of noise.  If I could have 12 clean stops on a GH5 as conveniently portable as it is with IBIS now, I would not bitch.  Give me a Pilotfly 2, a few batteries, a couple of fast lenses.  To me, that's a setup that gets out of the way.

Specs sound great but as an owner of the GH2, GH3 and GH4, I first want to see some sample videos to see if Panasonic worked on their colors.

    Amen.  Salmon or yellow skin.

    Puke.

Great news. That's really all that I would've asked for in the GH4 along with a LUT REC709 preview for V -Log.

Agreed.  Having Log in 8-bit defeats the purpose.  I loved the A7R2 until I pointed it at a sunset.

  13. They really only have like, one edge in the market and that's the "Canon" color thing imo.  Because honestly if we're going to continue making 8-bit banding machines in 2016 for video work, (Who'd have thought we'd point one of these things at the sky) - Everybody else is killing them on features.  They're just pushing their C-line.  If you want C-log from Canon, you'll get it at a ridiculous price.

Now you're moving from opinion to measurable fact. If Sony's reds are magenta, you should find it trivial to tell me which of the following was from a Sony and which was from a Canon. Both direct from camera, no editing. Both set to the same white balance and the scene was illuminated with an incandescent bulb and natural sunlight, with a cheap and nasty LED with significant green problems.

If I were going off of pretty much every A7 video I've ever seen, I'd say the bottom represents the non-Sony.  - I'm not the only one either.  There are plenty of people who say the same thing regardless of opinion or measurable fact.  No one is saying Sony's are shit dude.  We just don't like their color whether you like it or not.

It's coming in a firmware (possibly paid?) update.

There's no reason to assume it would be any worse than FS700 raw.

Also, this rumour speaks to raw stills buffer - which I guess theoretically you might be able to shoot 24 still frames per second... But what a pain in the butt...

Feel free to check out @sonyalpha on Instagram and then come back and tell me Sony colours suck..

I have.  And their Red's are still as magenta as always.. And skin still looks as milky and plastic as ever in terms of video.  Just my 2 cents dude.  Viva la Sony.
