Ugh. They put a guy on the moon with technology capable in an iPhone 2 generations ago. Tech capability is not the excuse or the issue anymore, willpower and desire is.

Be interesting to see a lowlight high ISO comparison. It's where I'd see the Sony having the leg up with the FF sensor... The other being whether it outputs at 10 bit 4k through the hdmi like the gh4.
-
I'm stoked to see your lowlight shoot out. One of the big ones for me with Canon is the clean ISO performance i had on the C100. The 1DC is said to be better but I've never had $12,000 to test that... (Who the hell does.). It'd be great (personally) to know the gh4 stood up to the C100 in those terms.

A-MEN!
This is the footage I've been waiting to see from this cam & it's about time. Awesome shots Andrew -
Um. I guess 6k makes a cleaner 4k image?.... Which must make 1080 look like a surgical diamond sterilization process through a microscope with a razorblade smothered in alcohol.
-
Atomos had a heads up on how many 4k cameras we should expect in 2014 early on. I'd imagine they'll be relevant in the game. I really wanna see how this thing compares DR and lowlight to a cam like the 1DC. Noise, etc.
-
I mean, I get it. They do stills... Does that mean they don't "care" about video enough to make it the best it can be on these cameras, or what..? Seems like they pushed it hard on the D800.
-
That looks like a gun.

I think it comes down to price really. This camera is spec'd like a Sony F in terms of what it's competing with. It depends on how much this will go for, because Canon and Sony already have this camera for over $20,000. I wouldn't depend on Canon to do anything other than the usual "throw us a bone."

Next to the GH4 comparison, this seems to be the other match up people are interested in.
The link below has the details, and says there are more test to follow.

Maybe I'm not alone here being an owner of the Bmcc, but does it seem that nearly everything these (black magic) cams crank out is tinted blue?

How did panasonic, towards the end of the AF-100's era - utilize 10 bit? I remember it not being an actual acquisition of 1024 variables, but rather diffusing the edges in a "makeshift" 10-bit way.....if that makes sense. Maybe someone can shed some light on that
-
Even if it did have 4k, the codec will be cannibalized on general purpose. Simply for the fact that 2 Cinema EOS cams will become insanely irrelevant based on image quality alone. Justifying built in ND for that price gap will be for lack of a better word: stupid.
Although that's never stopped them before. Lol -
Now the rumor is they're announcing a flagship that over cranks with a new sensor at nab.
It's like a vicious cycle, lol. -
Yep, so far the 5D Deuce footage looks better, but there is no way to control for lighting/grading. Either way, nice job Dedipax!

Is this going to act as a replacement option like Red does, or just what they're putting in the sub 4k cams from now on?
-
Can't wait to see Canon's response!
What are they going to do on strategy now?
Their 4K cameras are mainly aimed at Hollywood. C500 is not really aimed at the C300 crowd. They don't have a 4K camera for the masses yet.
The GH4 is a consumer camera which has appeal to pros. Smashes a price barrier.
Suddenly upgrading from a GH3 to C100 with external recorder lost a lot of appeal.
7D mark ii? Who knows.. -
Also... The one that really sparks my interest is the new sensor. The article Andrew did a little while ago on the new panny sensor with the "lowest noise on the market" would just be awesome if it was this one
-
This is exciting shit. I'm curious if they did a promo short like "Genesis" on this one also. There's a pic of Kurt Russel standing next to a Gh4 on a gyro. (probably a coincidence.. "Alright get that cat... Hold it... Hey holy f--k that's Kurt Russel over there!"
....If Kurt Russel endorses it, by God that's good enough for me. -
Why is it the defacto standard by which all DSLR video must be maintained at 8-bits in a 4:2:0 colorspace...? You'd think these engineers would've learned by now there's only so much you can squeeze out of it... Yet inevitably every single DSLR for the last 5-6 years has raped their image with 8-bit, 4:2:0. I'm curious how long they'll all continue to preach innovation while marketing the awesome video on their new cameras.... - in their respective 8-bit 4:2:0 spaces. Gees.

Pretty vague.

Anybody here had any extensive experience with film in the low light department? I'm sure somebody has... I look at our (realistically affordable) digital parallel options these days and
I see the black magic cams heading the pack. In terms of bit-depth, latitude, and overall image - they're the only option under $5000 (sans hack and digital bolex) doing what they are. Being ergonomically appealing is a different story... My biggest problem with them is the damn noise. They are so damn noisy. I've been through 3 - 2.5k bmcc's because of excessive green channel noise, rolling wave noise, and a horizontal split screen at Asa 1600 where the top half is brighter than the bottom. Noise noise noise. I guess my question is how comparable film is in low light situations to those cams.. I like grain, but not mosquito static

Good ol' 8-bit... I should just shut up and get used to it haha. It's still pretty impressive
