I m pretty happy with my new Ryzen build, editing 8k and 4k60p h.265 in real time with no proxy in Premiere. Way faster than i7-9700K we had at work lol, that machine can't even playback h.265 4k60p smoothly. My old PC is 8 years old, editing some heavy FHD can be a real struggle. Though I might change my 3080 to 3080ti 20gb once it is released as I am already seen 10gb get used up quite often on some other stuff.

Yeah why spend money upgrading cameras when phone is doing the jobs for a fraction of the cost 🤔 🙄 and you can edit on it too, why bother get a computer at all 😆
-
Pretty nice! I haven't got overheating warning on me yet.

That exactly mimic my experience, 8K runs smooth on high end Ryzen (if you got 12 or more cores), at least i can do jobs now without pulling my hair out or wait 2 years later.

C70 just got netflix approved https://ymcinema.com/2020/12/08/canon-eos-c70-now-netflix-approved/

Yeah that totally depend on the app, some of the app I use tend to grab all the cores it want (Unreal engine, Blender etc), Adobe software on the other hand is half arsed.. but with 8k and 4k h.265 having massive CPU raw power helps with unoptimized code. For gaming my old i7-4770K is still quite relevant lol

Those are the same h.265 4k60p videos they used on previous video, where the 10 core intel mac just poop when try to play back but both ryzen n m1 playback smoothly.

That pc he build a month ago is gonna be 20~100% slower when this build is done (waiting for PC case atm) 😁, can't believe a month can make huge difference.

I would thought the 24-105 will be better? 70mm is a bit short for me.

I use it as A cam for MV shoots, so far really good! No overheating warning for 12hr+ shooting schedule on internal 4k50p. Yeah, R5 is really good for 1 cam that does it all! Sold my S5 last week.

Bugger only 12 cores, probably have to wait for M2x for 16 score, I do hope it goes up to 64GB Ram. I do want Apple to success as I got a quite a few shares on them, right now they are not performing as good as nvidia or tesla 😅

I m planning to get a m1( or m1x?) macbook next year for remote setup, but my desktop still have lots of use on it. For portability it does have big advantage, but on desktop where there is no power restriction there might be quite a battle to fight, so next 12 months will be quite interesting to watch once more software take advantage of m1 architecture.

Try run Unreal Virtual wall on Apple.. wait they couldn't

It is very relevant to me as I m editing all day most of the time for 5 days in a week (less if i m out shooting)

AMD 5950x can do 3 stream of H.265 422 4K60P from R5 full resolution without dropping frame, current M1 capped out on 2 stream of H.265 with dropping frames, so more like 2X more performance, it can also playback 1 stream of full res 8K from R5 fine in Premiere, none of the Intel CPU can do it like 5950X can do atm.

Less glowing because of slower start up time vs other brand, but it is also the coolest cfexpress card there in terms of temperature. So far I don't have problems with it on set I've been to.
-
Ryzen still offer near 3x performance over M1, could change once native app coming out for M1. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Apple-M1-MacBook-vs-PC-Desktop-Workstation-for-Adobe-Creative-Cloud-1975/

Yes, ryzen 5950x with 64gb ram can run 3 stream of R5's 4k60p h.265 without problem, atm m1 can handle up to 2 stream of h.265 without lagging.
-
I got angelbird 512gb cfexpress at end so didnt use external ssd. There seem be a few Chinese brand cfexpress card on Alibaba that claims they can work on R5 8K, for even more cheaper price than Angelbird! $350 for 512gb!

Need desktop Ryzen to edit HEVC 4:2:2 smooth, 5950x can handle 3 stream of h.265 4k60p real time smooth, but then no laptop have the power of that. I m curious to see the difference between 8gb and 16gb for a bit bigger projects.

The current videos out so far is only doing simple layer edit, once you put multiple layer/lut etc the throttle will be more obvious
-
looks like only the chinese have more in-depth review of video editing for now, On Da Vinci current Intel mbp still is faster, but on FCX is much fasteron M1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nX_91XDZsuk

Basically it can run h.265 4k really smooth unlike his 10 core iMac pro, the video show his iMac scrubbing footage at slide show, while m1 MacBook play the same h.265 footage in real time without skipping, 8k ibp is almost smooth but 8gb ram is the limitation, 16gig is needed for 8k it seems? Export canon h.265 footage is almost 2x faster on m1. Export H.264 is slightly faster.
