1.
This is great news for video on the 5D Mark III. The encoder is completely new and features the ALL-I Intra frame recording mode (like AVC Intra) that the Canon 1D X supports, at half the price of that body. 2.
Download the patches from the GH2 Patch Vault here I’ve now finished testing and have refreshed the EOSHD GH2 Patch Vault with my latest patches. These are now simplified into just two – a high performance AVC Intra 88 Mbit EOSHD Unified patch and a 44 Mbit EOSHD Vanilla patch. I’ve also added an updated installation guide which is designed to be as simple and as to-the-point as possible. 3.
The Metabones / Conurus EOS adapter for Sony NEX is not the first to have seamless electronic aperture control on NEX bodies for Canon EF / EFS lenses but it is the smallest and most affordable. What is build quality like? I’ve had some Metabones adapters before, namely the ones for Contax G to Micro Four Thirds and NEX. These were far better built and manufacturers than their Chinese equivalents, and made in Japan. The same goes for the new Metabones EF to E-Mount adapter. 5. That harsh sharpening is exactly what the AA filter fixes, amongst other things.
 6.
http://www.vimeo.com/37606607 A great many have forgotten what an absolute beast the 5D Mark II is. A power house of image quality with a massive sensor, Hollywood film sequences and entire episodes of prime time network TV have been shot on it purely for the way it looks. But it does have one big flaw. This is now much reduced with the VAF-5D2. 7.
http://www.vimeo.com/17987299 In the last few weeks I’ve been locked away in a dark studio in Berlin working just on EOSHD.com, but I also found time with my resident music-producing mate to make this video, shot with the available lighting in the studio: Read full article
8. Slide the very small tab at the side of the SD card in the opposite direction and make sure it stays there  :)
 9. Also expecting new Rebel / 650D around this time, which could be a real bargain.
 10. No Thunderbolt. To be honest however, I am pretty happy with the audio monitoring port, and all I want now is for the video image out of this camera to be STUNNING. That is what really matters. Rest of it can be as unimaginative and conservative as they like...
 11.
More images of the 5D Mark III have been outed on Canon Rumors ahead of the release date, which is imminent. One of the pictures shows what looks like a headphone jack. Here EOSHD takes a close look at what has changed on the left side of the camera body in terms of ports and connections… Read full article
12. 1.11 and 1.1 are the same. Just the labelling varies.
 13. No it is 30 fps and 25 fps. 60 and 50 are just the interlaced wrappers, in the sense that is how the 30 fps and 25 fps are delivered inside the AVCHD format.
 14. Compared to 60D (which = 7D, 600D of course) the GF2 with hack is pretty similar overall. Colour and shadow detail is better on the Canons though. Remember however the big advantage of GF2 over those is the more adaptable mirrorless lens mount.
 15. I will soon, just that they're not 100% finished yet.
 16.
The Panasonic GF2 may be a small camera but the hack is big news. Now GH2 shooters can get a 2nd body for next to nothing and have a b-cam that shoots at the same bitrate and same format, with the same lens mount and the same sized sensor. 17.
Japan’s national broadcast corporation NHK has developed a large CMOS 8K sensor for Super Hi Vision. At 21.5mm x 12.1mm it is the size of Super 35mm when cropped to 16:9, and does 120fps at a resolution of 7680 x 4320. 18.
Although the Canon 24mm F1.4L and Samyang 24mm F1.4 are superb lenses, the Canon is $1500 and the Samyang $800. Here EOSHD goes hands-on with 4 more affordable fast wides for the 5D Mark II. They are especially cheap if you pick them up used on eBay. 20. Cinema just underexposes basically, to protect highlights. But the way it does so reduces tonality and dynamic range. You are far better off using Smooth with a lower ISO. The GH2 has trouble enough with crushed blacks and the Cinema film mode makes that worse.
 21. Hi Alberto. I'm afraid I don't really shoot in 1080/50i mode so can't suggest a patch for it. Mine work in 24p mode.
 22.
With the newly released GH2 1.11 hack, the small GF2 is now also hackable. This camera also does 1080/25p inside a 1080i wrapper, and features a similar image processing chip and encoder to the GH2. Could it be a bargain GH2 alternative? EOSHD takes a look. Meanwhile Magic Lantern continues to improve. There’s current a brute force testing approach which according to Alex of Magic Lantern may “unlock many things that previously were thought to be impossible or very hard” like anamorphic preview and clean HDMI out. 23. Nostalgic and a slightly warmer than normal white balance will help match your GH2 to the 5D Mark II. Generally.
 24.
Great News ! Will you update your GH2 Patch Vault page ? or does the intra testing 88 (F settings) still work along with the new hack? Thanks for your answer.
All the current patches still work. I will add one for 25p though.
 25. Thanks for the info FilmMan. I'm following this closely.
