1.
so the resolution sucks?
No it certainly doesn't. No anti-aliasing filter means the sensor and lens deliver optimal sharpness. Although it is 16MP to 24MP on the NEX 7 it keeps the low light advantage of a lower megapixel count with some of the resolution advantages of higher pixel count. See Nikon D800E for further example.
2. Select PAL in the menu (Video Out) and then choose HBR mode instead of Cinema 24p. Then hope your editing software recognise it as 25p not interlaced.
3.
Canon have been on the record to say that the only rival they fear is Fuji (because of their expertise in sensors). Canon want to fear them and I want to like them. If only the GH2 was this good looking. Unfortunately I am having quite a hard time liking my X-Pro 1 when she is sitting side by side with the superb Sony NEX 7. Does it offer enough over the Sony NEX 7 to justify the price tag? 4.
talking about fast lenses.... just google -> Carl Zeiss Super-Q-Gigantar 0.33/40mm
I want one of these. However I am afraid that it may start to absorb nearby objects whilst sitting on my desk http://www.flickr.com/photos/corner-of-a-life/5781539879/#
5. Clearly it is possible because this lens exists! T-stop takes into account both transmission of glass and aperture size. T1 does indeed mean zero light loss. No lens has that kind of transmission as far as I know. But the SLR Magic is pretty close. The aperture is F0.92. For it to be F0.95 and T0.95 would mean zero light loss. That it is F0.92 allows for some light loss, so I am definitely sure about it being T0.95. This isn't some trick. Although Kubrick didn't think of his NASA F0.7 as a T0.8 or something, you should still measure cinema glass brighter than F1 in t-stops for matching.
6. That's interesting. Will try it with my Lightcraft ND.
7. A superb explanation, and thank you. You are forgiven. If the Metabones side had communicated as well as that, I wouldn't have felt so let down by the experience. Admittedly, those who got the first batch were very unlucky to have such a problem. Now I know it is fixed, solved, history - I am far happier. Even 3 days ago I wasn't told by Metabones about the felt treatment so didn't know about it being fixed for the 2nd batch. In fact at time of communicating my problems I assumed Metabones and Conurus were dealing with things as one company, so that is why you didn't hear from me. I didn't think to seek out a separate contact at Conurus because I assumed Metabones was dealing with everything.
8. The best upgrade I ever did http://www.eoshd.com/content/6709/choosing-an-ssd-for-your-macbook-pro I use a Kingston 240GB SSD as my main drive for running apps off, editing footage, etc. Then for extra storage room I have my old MacBook 750GB HDD in the optical bay. One of the biggest real-world speed increases I ever had... More than a RAM or CPU upgrade even!
9.
http://www.vimeo.com/38339934 The Leica M Noctilux which costs $11,000 is a full frame F0.95 photographic lens. The SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE T0.95 is a full frame F0.92 lens designed for cinematographers with Leica M mount which retails for $3,000 – a third of the Noctilux. It is quite a different lens to the Voigltander Nokton 25mm F0.95 for Micro Four Thirds. It covers a full frame sensor and APS-C mirrorless cameras like the Sony FS100 and NEX 7 whilst the Nokton vignettes on anything larger than Micro Four Thirds. I shot the above film on the Panasonic GH2 with Iscorama 36 anamorphic attached to the SLR Magic CINE but I am also using it on my NEX 7 and Fuji X Pro 1. 10. I like motion blur, 1/30,40,50 all look fine to me. It is only the higher shutter speeds look strobe-like.
11. I informed you (Conurus) several times directly before writing about it on the blog. I also asked for a fully working review unit so you have had plenty of time to deal with this. I can only write about what I am shipped as a paying customer like everyone else. The entire first batch was faulty. Not sure how many others are. I didn't design it, did I? The Cinema5D review features an adapter with no felt but updated firmware! What the hell is wrong with Metabones in HK? Do you decide to fix one thing but leave the other a secret, or just decide only to fix it for certain customers, not all of them? I appreciate that both the firmware and reflections are now fixed, but mine isn't. Also these were major problems that the bare minimum of testing would have picked up on way before it shipped. As if the problem isn't bad enough, your first customers have been badly treated. Had I known it any different, wouldn't have needed to post this article at all. I write about what I use.
12.
Here are some frame grabs from the JVC HMQ10 4K camera which is the first semi-pro 4K camera, that breaks under the £4K mark. The frame size is 3840×2160 and it is the biggest step up in resolution yet seen for video standards. 4K makes the difference between 720p and 1080p seem minuscule! 13. The point here is that Metabones have shipped in the first instance an adapter that is incompatible electronically with the NEX 7 and 5N, and seriously defective with internal reflections. That is not a minor thing! If anyone is going to fix this thing, Metabones are. Not me.
14. Don't think they're out yet. Looking forward to the 75!
15. It's rubbish. Stick to the Olympus lenses - they're good. Forget the cameras, they have lost the plot.
16.
UPDATE: Metabones inform me they have fixed the latest adapters with an anti-reflective part. If your adapter suffers from reflections, if yours has any of the issues below, simply contact Metabones and send your adapter back for a service As if the initial non-functioning firmware with the NEX 5N and NEX 7 wasn’t bad enough, it appears Metabones will have to completely re-design the recent EOS lens to E-Mount adapter. 17. Hey, all that 'shit' (well the video related ones) are in the article above!  :P If those were an issue, why did you buy one?
18. You must understand what the HDMI output on the GH2 is... It is 4:2:0. If you encode that to ProRes 4:2:2, what do you get? Yes... 4:2:0! Also it is interlaced with dodgy cadence. Not native 24p like internally. Lastly, it isn't even uncompressed. It is 24Mbit via HDMI and up to 170Mbit internally with the hack. Not until HDMI overtakes internal image encoder will it become worthwhile. Yet to see this happen and yet to see any signs that it will do. Internal codecs are so good these days. D800 is interesting on the HDMI front only because inside it is so rubbish. But if it is as poor resolution as the internal soft 1080p is, then 4:2:2 and uncompressed will not give you any extra colour or resolution back because non exists in the first place, from the sensor scaling.
19. Update to 1.1 official first, just to be safe. That is what I did. I think you can go straight from out of the box to hacked but until I try it myself, that is my advice.
20.

Hmm, there's a 1080p version of Mario & Nette on YouTube. The beginning shots look a bit fuzzy, but I think they must have been shot at 720p because the rest is absolutely stunning! The softness isn't noticeable at all - it looks wonderful.
If it was the same one I saw, it was simply the 540p clip from the Canon site upscaled to 1080p by the YouTube Idiot. It was very misleading!
This is the one I watched: Canon EOS 5D Mark III: Mario and Nette (original short film) Definitely not 540p. Look at the details on his sweater. You can tell that it's from the original source at the end as well, where the lenses are shown (too sharp for anything else). It's certainly not as "sharp" as a GH2, maybe not even as detailed either, but it looks VERY cinematic if you ask me, and that's what people want, on the whole, I think. So Canon is delivering on that.
Dude, it is NOT 1080p. Look at the wide shots and titles. A fine fabric at macro looks detailed no matter what the resolution, be it 540p or 1080p!
21. I really just care about resolution since the cameras are so close in other aspects. I have crop on GH2 don't need it on full frame really, since it makes noise worse. HDMI on D800 will be only thing that swings it for me. If the image quality through that is better than 5D Mark III it is big news. Unlikely but possible. However, it is a bad omen that Nikon have tried so hard to prevent footage shot via HDMI being out in the open. It is a big improvement for Nikon in video land though. They have clearly taken notice of the reason for such high 5D Mark II sales.
22.
I think the 4K Canon is the video DSLR that we're expecting.  The only thing is, will it be as much as a Scarlet?  The other thing is the GH3.  It will take a while, but once that thing is hacked, game over.  ???
My thoughts as well. Although the 5D Mark III is a nice evolutionary improvement in a lot of areas, the 4K EOS is the one Canon's loyal customers deserve. I have a feeling it may be out of their hands though, because it will be aimed at RED and priced accordingly. Unless that is, they stick with plans to output to an MJPEG codec which is kind of ridiculous. I get the impression the EOS 4K is a strange product in many ways, because it supersedes the C300 in a stills camera body. If you look at Canon's profit margins on the C300, no sensible business would let that happen!
23. That's normal. The codec on the GH2 is variable bit rate and it only uses the appropriate amount of data in the stream to support the amount of detail in each frame.
