James told me the top OLPF is easy-ish. But the 2nd is bundled in with the self-cleaning unit. My advice is wait for him to do a guide of some kind. Looks very promising.

Even if it is not real 4K, it will still be a lot higher resolution than real 1080p. GH2 is not real 1080p either, but yet it is within 2-3% of the C300's resolving power! It is important not to overstate and overhype small things. Overhype the big things by all means!

I'm not saying there is no need. I am saying it is vastly overrated like raw is as well. I don't colour grade my stuff, I prefer to get it right at the time of shooting.

It isn't really supposed to take the place of the F3. If it was, it would be called the F4 not the FS700. I am not sure where you got 10 stops of DR from. The FS100 had at least 11.5! 4:2:0? Again - not a very good guess. This will be 4:2:2 as the FS100 also does to an external box. 10bit is overhyped, I feel. So I have a challenge for you! Show me the difference between 8bit FS100 footage and 10bit F3 footage and exactly what 10bit (not 4:4:4 just the 10 bit colour) brings to a 4:2:2 image. In my opinion, 4K is a bigger deal than 10bit colour.

[/quote] GH3 in September probably, but that is not a response to an $8000 camera is it? Panasonic's response, if there is one, will also be at NAB. I'm expecting an update to the AF100 or a higher end version to compete with the C300 and FS700.

Not only does the FS700 spell trouble for Canon at the $16,000 mark, it will spell trouble at the $3500 mark as well. The 5D Mark III was not enough to compete with the FS100 at that level, and now the results are about to bite. My FS100 was $4200 on eBay. I can see it coming down to $3500 - not too much lower since it is still a fantastic camera and there isn't much else like it around at the moment. Who else thinks Canons seem be completely shackled by corporate immobility at the moment?? GET ON WITH IT

No, D4 grab in article is fully representative. Those leaves are very smooth, hardly any fine detailed. Not a good test subject. Try a wide angle on landscape instead.

[/quote] Of course it will. Cinema EOS range is aimed at cinema people. Their gear costs serious money. It isn't an Indie Cinema EOS range. Canon don't seem interested in us at the moment.

The higher quality patches are limited because of the size of the card and how much more image data they put on it. It is the trade off - performance or clip length? I recommend Vanilla if you are doing continuous takes longer than 20 minutes.

Great. I am in two minds over this. 1. Utterly support any indie camera manufacturer. They are needed more than ever. 2. A lot of money for a more gradeable image profile compared to the GH2. They have their work cut out but if the image is significantly more cinematic than a DSLR I will be getting one. Let's keep the Kineraw news coming on the forum. Cheers.

[/quote] I disagree with you on two quite big points here sir... A lot of people DO want both pro stills and pro video in one body. Carrying just one camera as opposed to juggling two, plus lenses makes a lot of difference if you are shooting on foot in the real world outside of a comfortable studio. And then there is the issue of price and that full frame sensor. Name a video-only pro camera that does full frame for $3000 and I will buy it in a flash!! Oh... It doesn't exist. This is why so many videographers will be buying the D800 for video even though they have no interest in stills.

The FS100 is almost a match for specs and image quality to the C300 despite being $11,000 cheaper and half a year older. $16,000 to $4500. Canon will need to justify this price somehow throughout the C300's 3+ year lifespan and I have no idea how they are going to do it. When newer cameras come along from Sony and Panasonic, some maybe as soon as NAB with better specs for less money who is going to buy the C300 at $16,000?

That was a really bad test, unexposed by several stops and with several stops difference in between the camera in the ISO test above 12,800.

It is weird, I have seen very detailed brickwork shot with the D800 and it has come out fine, and I have seen stuff like this which is terrible. The problem seems to be limited to very fine horizontal striped patterns rather than all fine detail. I've been talking to Mosaic Engineering about a possible filter and they say if there is enough interest they may do one - so contact them and request it, show them how many people would potentially buy one. It is certainly doable and would help a great deal without majorly softening the superb resolution the D800 produces.

Yeah the D4 isn't very good apart from in crop mode. D800 however... The D4 is Nikon's offering for stills, the D800 is more of a convergence thing. It is a huge improvement for Nikon in video. Don't forget where they were last year. Nowhere. 10bit clean HDMI from a hacked 5D Mark III. You're optimistic. 9 tenths of this is about the will of the manufacturer to provide it. Don't forget there is only so much hacking existing functionality can do. Canon has clearly no intention to provide proper video in DSLRs now as they have their Cinema EOS range.
