1.
This gets boring very quickly. 1 - it wasn't just fanboys trumpeting the GH2, it was Francis Ford Coppola. 2. I find the fanboy thing offensive because it implies a lack of technical judgement, clouded by emotion. Go and tell the grading studio Andy Lee knows in the UK who said the GH2 holds up brilliantly in post - and they have been dealing with stuff from Red and Alexa for years.
Andrew has done a superb job of bring the GH2 to a much wider group of people because of this forum he has set up. I for one only considered switching to a GH2 from years with Canons because of Andrew's work detailing how to get the best out of this great little camera. I reciently took a hard disc full of GH2 footage to be graded on a Flame Hi end machine at the Facilitys House I have been using for nearly 20 years now......and they are very used to handling Arri Alexa, Canon C300 and Red Raw Files for feature films they have edited and commercials. The GH2 footage looked superb on their ref monitors AND had a big lattitue in the grade and held alot of infomation that could be pulled out if needed.... I was runing Driftwood Quantum 9b hack exactly like the Zacuto shoot out. They said these files are as good as any Red or Arri file was have worked on, the GH2 footage I shot was comparable to those cameras and in that bracket of quality and detail. We all have the choise to use what ever camera we want ...I think for me the GH2 is a great camera for the money and gives me the quaility that is almost as good as the bigger more expensive cameras like Epic, Arri and Sony F65 if used creatively and with good lighting. Andrew has shot some superb looking films with his GH2 as have many many other people accross the world and people will continue to do so. The GH2 is genuinely democratising film making for all of us! So get shooting and get busy !!

 3. I bought a Minolta MC Rokkor 58mm f/1.4 on eBay and gave it a spin with my ISCO Projection Anamorphic. I wanted to see how it handles big apertures. These are still images (Panasonic GF3). Most of them at f/2.8. I put in one shot at f/1.4. The photo's look really sharp to me. I also got footage, i'll be putting it together and posting it later. Click for big! 4. I love each and every one of these Zacuto Shootout productions. It has educated me on a lot of things I didn't know. I don't take everything as if it's infallible but rather as part of my continuing education about the field. I'm coming from the Audio side of things as a life long 2nd generation Musician and Sound Engineer. The cameras I own are low cost. GH2, T2i, a couple of Canon Vixia's. So I'm always trying to figure out how to get the most out of my cameras. I'm shocked at how small the difference is between a low end DSLR and top end cameras. I'm more interested in solutions to the limitations of these low end cameras and the Zacuto Shootout really did help me more clearly understand how to get my camera to give the best image. I now have more confidence in what my camera can achieve with the right lighting, file management and grading. This is EXTREMELY liberating for me and i'm sure many like me who are new to this arena. I would also like to applaud Zacuto, EOSHD and the many blogs and websites that are dedicated to educating film makers and videographers like me.

 5.
But, man, learn your place.
How about you learn your place? Are you forgetting it is my blog, where do you suggest I put my own personal opinion if not on here? Being offended by what you perceive incorrectly as a bias implies you have certain rights which I've trodden on. Sorry for stomping on your rights over my blog sir! You don't have any right and I can write what I want.

 6.
Although I agree with a number of things you mentioned in your critique of part 3 (in particular, where you talk about endless reminders about the importance of creativity which BTW often look like mantras lacking any sunstance), I think the overall tone of your blog post (and your advices) are not appropriate. Part 3 does not confirm your major leitmotif regarding GH2 - not a surprise, you do not like it. Here is a piece of advice for you - next time you do what Zacuto did with their overall excellent and amazing effort by its scale and contribution to the filmmaking community, and then we'll see if you are up to the challange yourself. To finish on a positive note - I respect what you do and check your blog almost every day. Equally, I respect your contribution to the community (even if I sometimes disagree with all your biases). But, man, learn your place.
Really idiotic comment that does nothing to address the facts.

 7.
Yet, at the same time, our creativity would not grow. Picasso painted when he was destitute, John Huston directed when his lungs already collapsed, Beethoven composed when he was deaf and had painfully swollen intestines. Not that I compare myself to any of them, I just say an Alexa doesn't shoot my film.
Tis true! They always say that talent shines through, and hopefully it always will! These are all just tools with which to make some art, conduits for expression, they should really be secondary once they're mastered or at least grasped. They are great fun to learn and discuss, but shouldn't rule our lives or the way we express ourselves. They always say: shoot, right now! With whatever you have. You'll learn than more not shooting but wishing you had something else to shoot with.

 8.
I am entitled to my opinion. GH2 fanboys had no trouble trumpeting GH2 performance in earlier parts when they thought the over-lit GH2 was doing good. Now when they don't like GH2 performance in more objective test where all cameras are using the same lighting, we are being told the test is now flawed. This is funny. Part 3 clearly has shown GH2 is nowhere even close to any video camera. It performs exactly like a $700 m4/3 camera.
This gets boring very quickly. 1 - it wasn't just fanboys trumpeting the GH2, it was Francis Ford Coppola. 2. 9.
Lighting everything the same -- in effect purposefully mis-using a less-forgiving piece of equipment -- then saying "look, cheap cameras aren't as good" is a bit of pointless academia IMHO. The spec sheet already tells me that information.
Yes this is bang on correct, they wouldn't mishandle an Alexa in a scientific test so why mishandle the GH2 by getting the exposure and focus wrong in 2 out of the 3 empirical shots?

 10.
Hey wondering why using a long telephoto zoom lens for wedding.. I see the F2.8 is it because you want a nice shallow depth of field, which the 200mm + 2.8 will get you, but you will have to be so far away from your subject and the framing will be small to work with.. why don't you use a medium telephoto size like 50 or 85mm with big aperture? I'm just asking to hear your answer, you could teach me something new.. but here is a lens you can add to your option, its fairly new by Rokinon.. not many ratings or feedback yet but its great price.. The lens structure and build is not a great as that nikon lens but its a 85mm with F1.4 for $300! this lens is on my wish list http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/769411-REG/Rokinon_85M_O_85mm_f_1_4_Aspherical_Lens.html
Its actually something I learnt from the stillmotion guys actually in this video. http://vimeo.com/15030910 Makes sense, so I want to give it a shot.

 11.
How many times is rolling shutter really a problem? Not that often in my opinion. John said in the interview that it is no worse than the GH2 and 5D any way. True the sensor probably has a global shutter mode but the image quality won't be as good in that mode - likely much noisier with less dynamic range. Look at the current specs of scientific sensors - global shutter mode always worse. This is why Panasonic haven't brought theirs to the market yet.
In my handheld style, it's been problem in every single project really. Being no worse than a 5D or a GH2 is not a good thing really, it's one of the basic issues, and I hoped they would get it finally fixed, it's about time someone does!
