The action 6 housing looks a bit tacky although i'm probably nitpicking.. Honestly i don't like watching comparison videos after i have bought something. Its almost guaranteed to start you crying into your beverage of choice lol

Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro are now $100 off everywhere.  It's still on the pricey side for an action camera, but my Insta360 One R/RS's are getting older/a little beat up and the batteries seem to be showing signs of age too.

I'm not sure how this person did such a deep dive on the imaging pipeline, but it was an interesting read.

GoPro merges with Starman Optical (AI data centers, defence and aerospace enter the picture). GoPro has entered into a definitive merger agreement with this US optical-photonics company making optical transceivers.

GoPro shareholders are to receive $285 million in cash ($1.14 per share) while retaining approximately 10% of the combined company. GoPro's roughly $92 million debt is also expected to be paid off at closing.

The announcement specifically talks about expanding GoPro into AI data center infrastructure, government, defence and aerospace, using Starman's US-made optical transceiver business.

So a company which we still instinctively think of as an action-camera manufacturer is suddenly describing a future spanning cameras, photonics, AI infrastructure and defence.

GoPro says the camera business isn't going anywhere. Nick Woodman has already published a separate letter reassuring users about exactly that. He says they intend to make more cameras, smarter accessories and better software, and that the stronger balance sheet should actually allow them to invest more heavily in imaging.

That may well be true.

Particularly interesting is GoPro's IP position. They mention more than 2,500 US patents accumulated over 24 years, and explicitly say the deal is intended to maximise the value of that IP in consumer, commercial and defence markets.

In other words, this doesn't read merely as somebody buying a struggling camera brand.

It looks more like an attempt to take what remains a very recognisable imaging company, recapitalise it, remove the debt and use the GoPro brand/IP as one component of a much broader technology company.

And, strangely enough, this might actually be better news for GoPro cameras than another few years of trying to survive almost exclusively by selling action cams.

Provided the cameras really do remain important after the merger, of course ; )

The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval.

They will be very important as the cameras will be the capture device for the worldwide free training data they’ll be getting from the cloud storage/editing function that will be offered to the users who’ll be unwittingly doing the training for the company.

And paying for the capture device as well.

And they ban DJI for being untrustworthy eh?

Makes you wonder which family member is backing this financially ?
