Agree. Besides, it's not like those 6K Panasonic or 8K SHARP cameras can shoot RAW, although the resolution is quite attractive. They'll still have that "Digital" look. ML Raw is truly MAGIC. It will be developed even further in the near future.

Yeah! EOS M50 with Magic Lantern would be insane. But it doesn't look like it'll be completed any time soon. By the time it finishes, there will probably be cameras out from Sony/Panasonic that can shoot 10K lol. The new Panasonic SH1 is introduced with 6K and 14 Stops of Dynamic Range and then there is an 8K Camera to be released. I'm still loving the upscaled to 4K footage from the outdated ML Cameras LOL.

Yes the whole point of ML for me, is that the images are artistic, low-fi, messed-up, film like, amazing to grade... The opposite of modern 8K digital.
No matter how good our expensive full frame mirrorless cameras get, there will always be a place for a ML raw video or Digital Bolex Super 16

If the EOS M does well, I'm presuming the 70D should also. Prores is nice if you want something quick, though skin tones and detail are not as good as RAW. I prefer my old Sony A6300 for Prores. The Dynamic Range and cinematic image are what sets the BMPCC apart from other cameras within its price range.

I know people who have tested the EVF-DC1 on the original EOS M and have stated that it "doesn't" work. Not sure about the EVF-DC2 I would presume that won't work either.
    I use this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/V6-Magnifier-Hood-LCD-2-8x-Viewfinder-Extender-Magnetic-For-CANON-Eos-M/252672339287?epid=874907218&hash=item3ad471ed57:g:0RAAAOSwsW9YyVQF
Does the trick. Funny thing, I actually superglued the frame to the EOS M, looks great and the Viewfinder works like a charm!

I recently purchased the Original BMPCC and have only tested it gently using a Lumix 20mm f1.7. I'm waiting for a Metabones Speedbooster to arrive to officially test it with my awesome lens pile, but so far I can say the EOS M RAW is sharper and more detailed. People describe the BMPCC as having "cinematic" image due to its soft cinema look. it's like someone stuck an invisible 1/8 Black Pro-mist filter in front of the sensor. Until the other gears arrive for the BMPCC, I really do prefer the EOS M.

Nice one Andrew! These frame grabs look very nice coming from the 70D and even the 7D!  Glad to see Mr. Blue sky in the image, sets a nice scene.

You guys are getting this thing to sing.
I have tried it out as well. I find the full-sensor recording a bit messed-up, I think I might need to revise my workflow. The crop recording is good, but working with a very small sensor area.
I prefer the 70D at the moment... Found one for 200 euros used with a lens, high shutter count. It is now doing 14bit lossless compressed RAW with UHS card speed hack, full resolution no crop Super 35mm RAW at nearly 1920 x 1080. Damn thing looks like a Digital Bolex with Autofocus
I will continue to explore my EOS R and 70D, check the blog soon

With ML Raw, you really need to expose to the right as much as possible. I don’t think a 1.2 lens at ISO 100 in a dimly lit room is enough light.
With the 5D3, which is better in lowlight than the eos-m, I’ll be at ISO 400 in a well lit room with a 1.4 lens. In a dimly lit room, I’d be at 800 or 1600 ISO.

YouTube compression may have helped here as well. But in general, the results were pretty good and I was quite surprised considering the price of the camera. These days most people upscale or upload their videos in 4K to YouTube to avoid making their footage look like Minecraft from YouTube Compression, so even in 4K, the result was pretty clean.

Most other cameras are too. Nothing wrong with your copy. Are you using a speed booster? And what lens? I think the worst thing most people do is increase the ISO in dark situations instead of applying lighting (unless you have the A7S etc.). I use a Viltrox Mini LED Light indoors on a tripod to light one side of my face, whilst the other is lightened through natural window lighting (I'm no lighting pro, but it seems to work).

My Viltrox allowed IS. Think it's a recent bug.

Thanks. I'll definitely try that dual ISO. 12-13 stops of DR is very appealing too.
I have wondered if there's something wrong with my copy of the EOS M because the noise is terrible indoors and without a lot of light. Hopefully it's user error.

Dual ISO 100/400 (I feel 100/800 is too aggressive) really helps heaps in tough situations and gets you 12.9-13 stops of DR. I haven't had any issues with Low light! Use a speed booster, keep ISO @100, and use a fast lens (at least f1.4 for the night). Cinema companies still use noise reduction software, so that can be included in the editing workflow if needed.

Thank you for the beautiful, informative videos and for the luts!  It is very helpful when you include detailed settings with each video for ML and for the MLV app.

Thanks, Mercer, the Eos m raw can really shine if the RAW is manipulated properly, i'm still learning anyway. I'm really impressed with the bmpcc original as well. The proress HQ looks very close to RAW, and the RAW, when upscaled to 4K resolution in Davinci Resolve, looks quite close to the BMPCC 4K. Cheers!

No heavy crop at all! The crop I believe is the typical canon EOS M crop x1.61. My Sigma 18-35mm looks really wide and with a Viltrox 0.71x speed booster, I can use between 24-35mm F1.2.

Wow. Liked your footage a lot Zeek... What res was it before the upscale to 4K?
Even my 4K screenshot of the YouTube frame has plenty of pop
