They must be neglecting PDAF for a reason. I don't think for a second they can't do it. Their cameras are widely accused of this shortfall so they must be listening.  I think they feel they've got something better up their sleeve........

    Ι hope so.

Don't forget that PDAF using cameras are facing stripes in some occasions that the panasonic S are not.

I think you might be forgetting about the indy cinematographers who want full frame, an EVF, a more adaptable lens mount and steady handheld footage

EVF could be a addon ( like the external recorder) but on many occasions could someone work without one (but not without the ext.recorder)

FF vs S35 is a comparison that would be very interesting WHEN prores RAW will be available.

L mount ( and RF mount) are very promising , I too would love to go there in the future. But now L lenses are not the usual glasses among us. EF lenses still rule.

Stabilisation is something that I too noticed that is a major difference.

    Price chasm remains HUGE.

  3. It seems this autumn we will have a 6k battleground in IBC.

    Sony FS7II   6k

    Sony A7S3 maybe...6k?

    Canon C500II 6k

    Blackmagic BMPCC 6k

    RED Komodo 6k

    Panasonic S1H 6k

    Z-Cam E2-F6

    Z-Cam E2-F8

i LOVE THIS WORLD (and hate it same time)?

More Full frame cameras will appear after Alexa mini LF and Venice like C500II and new entry for low budget Sigma FP.

Ιt wouldn't surprise me if the Fp was $4000. They're a small company and this will be a small volume camera. To make their nut, IMO its not going to be cheap.

There is no chance that FP will cost more than $2000.

I believe it will land around $1600 but till IBC we will just wonder about.

Is it just me or would a P6K with Sony E-mount be much more interesting than the current EF version?

In case you are interesed on a gear combination like that I believe that Sony will try a camera like BM's with an E mount of course.

That's what I got from one of Sony ceo interviews .

  6. No way.

Not sure if this was asked but "Who on here would buy the RED Komodo" if the price is right?  Say it's $6,500?"  Would you buy it?

Did you ever use the RED ONE yourself? And what cameras do you use now?

I have used All RED cameras brom the beggining till now. Alexa mini ,Sony FS7, Canon C300II along with BM ursa mini pro and lately BMPCC4K.

Arri LF is the next tool I am waiting to use.

If Komodo costs under 3500$ maybe. But I really doubt about that.

    Blackmagic is the new RED.

If you are not using Davinci Resolve, then P6K does not make sense at all. May be BM wants FCPX and PP editors to switch to Resolve with this 6K Raw only bait .

I would say that BM wants the whole market to switch to Resolve . That's why they decided to design, build and offer cameras at these low prices in order to turn industry to Resolve.

This is their main target not the camera industry.

One thing RED did right to outsmart BM is use RF mount: future-proof, allows numerous adapters including canons Vari-ND adatper..etc

All new Canon mount cams should go RF imo.

BM released last year the M4/3 BMPCC4K

BM releases this year the EF BMPCC6K

BM could surely release next year another BMPCCXK with RF or L mount

According to how many users NOW own EF lenses and how many users NOW own RF lenses the movement is VERY SMART.

Next year is another matter....There is no future proof with BM (anyway we don't pay a fortune so buy one more camera is affordable)

  9. He didn't targeted the chinese builder for the sensor but for complete build and support.

Especially Jannard is a camera pioneer for our age and I feel extremely thankfull to him and his dream.

New RED is Blackmagic after all but you cannnot erase the past and what they have achieved.

I find the fp far from being an ergonomic masterpiece. No touch screen for the menu for exemple.

    Why ?

Were all deep in touch ergonomics and suddenly a camera without that is now complete ?

Image quality will rise or sink the camera not issues like that.

Yeah, I was using the existing lens as an indicative gauge between the variance in price of typical Sigma products in their own domestic market versus the US market but it does give me pause for thought about that bundle as no L mount zooms even appear on the Sigma roadmap let alone have definitive announcements.

It is feasible, if a little clunky, that a bundle could include an MC21 with an existing 24-70mm Art (most likely the SA mount version) although it is equally feasible that the person whispering to me had been hitting the sake a bit too hard the other night.

I guess it might also be feasible that they are using the FP launch as the opportunity to spring a surprise and release the L mount 24-70mm.

It would certainly be a way of stealthily drawing Leica owners in particular (and Panasonic owners to a lesser degree) in to buying an FP if that bundle was the only way you could get the lens as they'd still be way, way up on the deal versus buying anything remotely similar in existing L mount !

There is no chance that they will offer current ART 24-70mm f2,8 of EF or SA mount along with ΜC21.

Is not announced officialy but the 4th L mount that was supposed to build after 45mm f2,8, 35mm f1,2 and new 14-24 f2,8 is the new 24-70mm with L mount (and E mount I believe).

They just delayed that lens propably to offer that as a bundle with FP as you guessed.

I have had a whisper that it will be launched at ¥300,000 in a bundle with the 24-70mm f2.8 Art and ¥180,000 body only.

Which would be $2850/$1700 as a straight conversion but I don't know how much additional it amounts to when it reaches your shores.

Looking at the price of a 24-70mm f2.8 Art at Yodabashi or Bic Camera and converting to dollars its pretty much the same as B&H though.

Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 Art   for L mount is not announced yet and it will be a brand new 24-70 and not the one that is available now.

Just like the 14-24mm f2,8 that is a completely new lens from EF lens.
