  1. ten or more years ago the aussie dollar was stronger than the us dollar. My parents went over there 6 or so times even brought back a container with two trams ams and two corvettes not sure they made much money out of it. now the aus $ is like 60 something cents makes it pointless even try to buy from you guys.
  2. no idea what a vat tax is, however its probably included on top of every other tax we already pay. you could probably build that wall that you want a litle higher and all the way around. Dont any of the specialness seeping out now do we.?
  3. er... me too, how about a short youtube video that may be more watchable, you could even make it for the $200 camera challenge then your guaranteed and audience. Even if you did lose. i seriously doubt anyone wants too take a camera off an aspiring director. i dont but then i might be more chivalrous than the rest perhaps not knocking your zeal dude, but unless you tell a good story and can animate that story somehow, maybe not. I think there is a reason why we have categories like users and other categories like makers.
  4. That's a bit of a low blow andrew, as host of this site and a mentor with much experience and alot to offer the rest of us. I,d expect a more tolerant attitude. Comments like this do not grow your website. regardless of whether he's right, wrong or a complete idiot. I know you have this persona of telling it like it is and thats fine. However making it personal and smiting some one down with derogatory comments makes you no better than the schoolyard bully
  5. you might want to practice fortnite a bit more. some 16 year old kid won like four million dollars a couple of days ago imagine what that could get you ?
  6. flying pigs is going a bit far....unless of course you have a trebuchet handy. ? personally he doesn't bother me much, but i dont go looking for bargains in the for sale section either. But i have to wonder what sort of bandwidth his for sale ads and web space cost andrew . Of course no one is talking about the elephant in the room, maybe its actually andrew. Perhaps c-log and pro log aren't selling so well and andrews had to diversify times are tough after all and britex is coming up.?
  7. im ticked off with nikon, I bought the nikon v1 when it came only to have nikon bale out on that system awhile ago. brands like go on about user loyalty and blah blah blah but i cant see how they have done me and others any favours. I'm glad it wasn't a car, imagine trying to get parts for that in 12 months at least with a camera i can toss it without too much remorse when it breaks.
  8. shouldn't the adapter take that into account ? its not like the sensor stack moves around very much edit : my understanding is flawed i guess, sorry if i antagonize you. I don't know how bm could get it wrong with the sensor on the first pocket camera but i remember vaguely that there was some issue back then. i presume that most manufactures build mounts so that they sell more of their own lenses rather than have those dollars go else where. which is a bit of an oddity for bm as they dont make lenses do they ? perhaps we should consider ourselves lucky if we can get adapted lenses to work at a reasonable level of performance
  9. i guess if you can afford one of those lenses you can afford to have the sensor stack fixed as well, if its an issue for you . Although i dont think its the manufacturers fault for not making exotic, expensive, fast, wide, adapted glass work at 100 % on their camera. I swing the other way, cheap, old glass adapted ?
  10. maybe bm have shares in metabones ...? can you really call it a standard micro four thirds mount if the filter stack is thinner and it affects mounted optics ? surely with or without a speed booster, optics wouldn't be focusing to the correct point no matter what lens was on it, which would make it bm's fault or is my thinking flawed ? the fact is that the lenses i fit on the front seem to focus ok makes me think its not the issue some people say it is. Metabones might be exaggerating the situation slightly hoping people might teeter over the edge into buying a newer and greater adapter. How many percent better is unclear at this point, if its 10-20 percent well that would be worth splashing out on if its only a few percent better i'd stick with buying a cheaper used adapter. Thats my thinking anyway. Until someone can do a definitive side by side test we won't know. Maybe andrew could approach metabones about a test unit for blogging purposes if its really that good, andrew could sell heaps of these for metabones thats a win/win right ?
  11. when does the curtain come down ? i found something local and about half the price of the conditional limits. i could probably race around there this afternoon and pick it up.
  12. yes it certainly is. I balk at paying $700 for a lens ? I could save up for one and by the time their in production, probably get one. However that depends on how desperate i am i could also buy a second hand one and live with that, and have some change for something else. hey mattias did you do a blog or video comparison on the metabones and viltrox ?
  13. i looked into it at one point from what i remember size wise the 2-4 is the biggest then the 2-3, 2-2 there is also a 2-1 or maybe its a 1-1 but their a bit rarer and maybe a little smaller as well. no idea about how sharpness is related between lenses but considering their all projection lenses, you'd expect a certain amount of performance and it probably adds to the lenses character perhaps, which is rather subjective to what each one of us likes or dislikes as well. Personally i am not concerned with age, i have lenses that have ages close to mine. If anything you can be sure their built to last at least. I bought a nap 2-3 would have liked a 2-2 as they are a bit smaller however they were also a little dearer and i wanted something cheap to pull apart so the 2-3 it was.

    bmp4k adventures

The adapter I bought is a viltrox nikon to m4/3. When I say expensive (read that as about $40 ) the other adapters have been half that or less. My lens collection consists of a few Fd lenses from the days of my film photography and a whole bunch of Pentax m42 lenses I bought and adapted for use on my canon 60d plus the Nikon 28-70mm I just got. I don't have any modern lenses apart from the 18-55 kit lens that came with the 60d. A few native lenses for the bmp4k would be awesome no doubt however they tend to be more expensive or pricier than I can afford when I look at such things. Maybe I'm just bad at budgeting lol. My approach to buying lenses may not have been well structured. It kinda took a left turn after getting the p4k with its 2x crop factor which makes nearly all my lenses, telephoto lenses barring the 24mm i have. It is what it is. I'm thinking I'll get a speedbooster next, that will gain me back a little ground so to speak. After that I'll look at some native lenses or a single focus solution for my anamorphic lens. Actually I'll probably go with getting a single focus solution

What have you got against Frankenstein? Actually I have hit a bit of a snag with my anamorphic setup. Since I made a solid connection between the taking lens and anamorphic, once I try to focus the taking lens wants to either extend or contract, the anamorphic being solidly rail mounted has real issues moving, hence I have a dilemma. I do have an idea to mount the anamorphic on a pair of linear rails like what you find on a 3d printer of which I do have a spare pair sitting around doing nothing however I wonder whether I should just save up and buy a front mounted single focus solution and be done with it.
  16. Good to hear from you Andrew. For awhile, I think a few of us were convinced you might have been napping. I'm sure most of us will be happy to help contribute to a spam free forum
  17. The bm p4k is my first video camera so my knowledge isn't that extensive. I am reasonable sure there was an issue with the filter stack on the earlier black magic pocket cameras and adapters or boosters. Tom antos doesn't recommend the .58 speedboster for the p4k which is the original speedbooster for the bm pocket camera I think. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. By the way have you watched Tom antos comparison on speedboosters for the p4k? Personally I liked the .64 for the look it provides as I'm not a fan of the 2x crop but maybe that's just me.
  18. A new Specialist adapter with a new specialist price no doubt. Tom antos has a video comparing the speedboosters and he reckons all the metabones adapters work fine on the p4k. I'll be looking for a second hand one for now probably a .64 for the slightly wider or full frame look. That might vignette with the tokina 28-70 at some point I am guessing. But nothing ventured nothing gained.

    bmp4k adventures

Ok so my tokina 28-70 turned up last week and the vitrox adapter arrived on friday. Spent some time with both on the bmp4k over the weekend. This viltrox is the most expensive adapter i have bought so far most others have been dumb cheap adapters ( read that as really cheap ) for my pentax m42 lenses. the viltrox fits onto the tokina lens very snugly no play, sadly cant say the same about the fit to the bmp4k there is some rotational play there. I understand that manufactures need to make allowances for tolerances but i think bm could have make things a bit tighter on the mount front. So far thats been my only thing that seems to bug me about the bmp4k and various lenses that i mount to it. I'm really starting to like the tokina 28-70mm zoom even with the brief amount of play time. I'm thinking this may quickly become a favorite lens. The viltox has a tripod socket foot that does that screws up onto the adapter with a thumbscrew. However i'm either a 300 pound weakling or the thumbscrew doesn't screw up as tight as i would like as i get a little bit of side to side movement when attached to a tripod. i am going to try living with it for awhile but i think i'lll end up getting a local welder to spot weld it or something. i new it was a smart mount when i bought it but was unsure if it would work on the p4k. The viltrox has something like an aperture ring that goes from f to 8 which is similar to your normal aperture ring except instead of being say f2.6 - f22 it goes f-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 i guess it correlates close enough for a human mind to interpret. With out reading the manual the adapter will change the nikon aperture from the ring on the vitrox adapter but not from the bmp4k. With the tripod socket foot attached and the tokina on the front, the camera seems balanced enough to sit flat without tipping forwards or backwards but pick it up and its a touch heavier on the lens. i have included a bunch of dng stills converted to jpegs for your perusal. Probably the next thing on the agenda is a speed booster which is what i will be looking into next, as i'm not really a fan of the 2x crop of the p4k, maybe the viltox one. Apart from the movement from the foot socket i quite like the viltrox adapter. I did find some dirt or something inside the tokina lens when i first looked through it, not attached to the camera when zooming however it doesn't seem to show attached to the camera, maybe i should do some pixel peeping. If i can find a good localish service center i would be tempted to get it cleaned. edit: by the way i got the nikon version, as far as i'm aware only the nikon and the pentax versions have an aperture ring, the others are controlled by the camera feel free to correct me i am wrong.
  20. i'm not laughing , but i now can empathize much better with those that been through a flood. Although i'm glad we have had insurance all these years however and i have to confess that the insurance company have been sterling to deal with through out it all. I do have some phone footage i could share may have to see what i can throw together.

    Lenses

my tokina 28-70 arrived, upon inspection i have some specks show up when i zoom curious if they will show up in footage? . Still waiting for the lens mount to arrive so unable to test just yet. Another question has anyone in australia used a camera shop or repairer they could recommend. Pretty keen to get it cleaned professionally
