  1. Well if the shining isn't so deserving of merit, i'd have to argue neither is basic instinct. People like to go on about how film can push the boundaries and explore all sorts or crap and be justified in what they do. But maybe a few boundaries are a good thing.
  2. i have two words for you kye...... spray tan. 😀 I like the shot and how the light falls away, I must be kind of peculiar, because i actually dont mind this grade. By the way where did you get your colour checker from ? With olympus potentially going the way of the dinosaur, do you guys think theres a lens or camera worth grabbing before things go pear shaped ?
  3. very trekish of you, going where no one has gone before 😉 hope it works out well for you. Certainly let us know how it performs. I ordered a rapido fvd16 a few days. So i guess we are both pretty excited.

Picked up 11 of these bad boys from a factory swapping over to leds. I think at least 7 of them work, no cost to me just had to remove them. There's a fair layer of dust over them so they'll need a good clean up. Considering keeping a few as original, maybe hacking a couple to take some sort of led bulb. Anyone else got some other ideas on what i could do with them ? the diameter of the reflector is about 420mm. On the flip side i guess i could start a grow room 😉 Also another vintage lens... circa 1971. While not the oldest lens around, is now making its way to the land down under, more about it when it turns up. Perhaps i should look at getting a really old lens something pre multiple coatings or even single coatings for comparative purposes. One other thing i have learned when using the fd adapters. mine has a lock and an open position on the adapter . when you position the fd lens onto the adapter, you need to align them properly as if you do it wrong the aperture doesn't work on the lens. Not sure if you could break anything by forcing it but i wasn't game to try. Took me several goes to work it out and that was swapping the lens between the p4k and my old canon t90. I guess anyone with fd lenses already knows this. Just a heads up for anyone thinking about adapting fd lenses.
  5. dammit, i hate you guys, i just bought a ff lens made in 1971 and im looking at an even older lens..... Anyway i think you people have too much time on your hands 😛

small update, a fvd-16a has been ordered. So i presume in 3-4 weeks perhaps 5 weeks, i hope to be joining the ranks of those who have a single focus solution. i'm kinda excited
  7. I know of no movie or story that hasn't been embellished or exaggerated at some point. Any creative person tends to wax lyrical or poetic about things, its human nature. When they stray too far, well i call that click bait. 🙄 Getting back on topic if some dude from panasonic whats to call it some type of galilean action i'm fine with that. I presume he knows more about such stuff, more than i do anyway. I have a stack of my brothers kids photos hanging up around the house. I have met those kids precisely twice in thirteen years. Does that make me a pedophile ? My parents live with me, grandparents tend to like grandkids as a rule. so i ended up with a bunch of photos of kids that arent mine. Since most parents are justifiably proud of their kids and have photos, it doesn't bother me that cosimo combines two interests ( kids + anamorphics) Kids make for cheap talent if anything, a meal at macas and its all good 😀 What isn't normal is that you come into this thread and cast slurs and aspersions on some dude. Your either a troll or idiot or both. Cant really see how the forum benefits from having you around @Andrew Reid your the boss, whats your take on this ?
  8. Seems like your the one that's been cooped up too long,.... We do this because we can. There is no right or wrong, there is only the image aesthetic. If it doesn't please you go someplace else. Rapido sure do make some nice kit, i plan on getting the fvd16 fairly soon. Having said that i bet that rapido's first few efforts were not exactly exhilarating to look at either. On set it wouldn't surprise me what a DP' would do to get an image. So long as it doesn't fall apart and kill some poor sod who cares what it looks like. Your last comment is just mean and spiteful. Everyone has been cooped up for the last three months, cosimo is fortunate to have some kids that are happy enough to be involved.

ok not real pleased with how vimeo and youtube do their own compression / or basically murders anything sent their way. So i have set up a rather basic website in the interests of a purer visual experience for fellow connoisseur's. There's a higher quality video of the one above if you would like a more representative effort of what the p4k can do. Not sure what i have done but on the video page you need to right click on the image and click play or view video. I am using bluegriffon 3.0 if anyone has an idea what i done wrong i'd be happy to know how to fix it. https://troveofstuff.com/videos.html

Inspired by kyes... GET OUT THERE and shoot something pep talk earlier today. Here's a collection of static shots taken from around the house. if you have a spare 52 seconds, bmdp4k + my new fotga fd-m43 adapter and the standard canon fd 35mm f2.8
  11. Just brimming to the surface, with optimism aren't you....🙄 Dont need to tell anyone anything...... i can now show them in glorious 4k or 1080 hd, How good is that ? 😉 pretty ordinary day here damp with showers not that i am complaining. The fd adapter has arrived i'll go shoot some footage, should be able to post something later tonight in my p4k adventures thread.
  12. i do like the images your getting. How did you cut the glass ? i'm guessing a diamond blade on a 5 inch grinder ? By the way you should enroll that kid in drama classes you've got a budding actress on your hands 😀
  13. Digressing abit, a 3d printer would be cool, spent years running cnc machines, was learning a water jet cutter before corona virus, but thats fallen by the wayside. I have a powerful need to get a rapido fvd16a next. So that is what any spare money is going towards at the moment. If i get back onto a waterjet I'd be tempted to throw the nap 35 lenses under it and resize them to something a bit more convenient Probably just enough to have them fit the rapido fvd16. No idea how that would work in reality but the nap was pretty cheap, i'd sacrifice it in the name of science
  14. my mistake, i was thinking the image was from a frame of a clip, not a photo from a full frame. I hadn't really connected the dots so to speak. Of course now that i have reread everything not having to grade and having such colours, it makes sense. Still its a nice image (no pun intended) that flaring is pretty bold, not sure it would grow on me. I do have a nap 35 pulled apart sitting in a box, maybe i need to keep an eye out for another broken anamorphic to play with.
  15. well if you keep covering them in clay i can understand why nobody wants to participate.🙄 i also think a little digital zooming is ok. Maybe some purists would have heart palpitations with that statement. But think done in moderation or discreetly, its a usable effect.
  16. nice colours, quite vibrant i think. i guess some of it comes from the grading but the lenses still have some input into the outcome. I do like this combination however i'm not sure about the multiple horizontal flares on your earlier post. What sort of flaring do you get with this combination ? I hope your not paying full price for these lenses to break apart ?

i thought having provision for 2 different thread sizes was forward thinking. i presume that all would have 1/4 inch holes at least but some times you might not be able to get a 1/4 inch hole where you want it. Having a couple of smaller holes could be advantageous when positioning the unit. As i said earlier i'm no cinematographer. what is the norm for you may not be the most obvious path for me. i still have a way to go 😀

    Tractor Fight

nice work, i liked having the girl ride off at the end i can relate with the matches, it never takes just one 🙄 can you still get fireworks in aus ? i think you used to be able from the nt or canberra but i'm not even sure about those states anymore, too dangerous apparently . Still i'd like to get a couple of marine flares and have a play with them sometime.

    elmoscope type 1

before i rolled the p4k back to 6.1 i tried one of those modes, not sure which now with a normal lens and it didn't look weird, must of got lucky.🙄 thanks for the informed update once i have a play around with 6.1 and dng's for an upcoming project after that i'll try the anamorphic modes in the later version

thanks for the link. Not really been bothered with external or extra batteries. Up till now been pretty happy using the original battery or having it plugged into ac adapter around the house. But i can see a time when it would be advantageous to have extra power and not from a bunch of lp-6e's. The goldilocks inside of me is saying vmount might too big and lp-6es to small, sony np batteries may be just right. 😉 getting back to the metal base i do like the smallrig because they give you two options to mount it either by 1/4 Thumbscrew or Two Hex Screws. It seems to me they have done a bit of thinking concerning this, both of those option are probably used on the smallrig cage. I dont have the cage but if i bought the smallrig np battery i'd be tempted to get the cage as well at some point. Plus two ways to power it with either dc in or the dummy battery. I'm not sure how anyone could make it much easier, but then i am no cinematographer either. there's probably is good vlog in buying a cheap battery plate drilling / tapping and maybe countersinking a couple of holes in it to aid functionality in bolting it to a camera. However i'm kinda lazy if smallrig want to do the work for me i'll pay them a $100 😎 i can see the value in that

your right, a quick look for np battery lists alot of options for cheaper and more expensive. it could soon turn into a real rabbits warren. I have to confess i'm nearly sold on the smallrig setup. Admitably more pricey than your suggestion, i feel the metal base with the mounting options and the dummy battery gives one a lot of flexibility.

A quick google search has that smallrig np battery holder on preorder for $ 95 aus from the videoguys. I like it, if i bought the dc cables from bmd thats about the same price. With the smallrig option everything's done for you, hard to screw it up and fry your pk4/6 with the smallrig as opposed to three sets of power cables from bmd but maybe, its the way i think. Nice that your get a dummy battery as well with the smallrig. interesting video, once i saw the battery door come off, i just had to try it 😀 i also like the idea of hanging it off the opposite side to the of the grip as the p4k tends to be lopsided once its on the rails having the battery there may rebalance it. not really a fan of half cages they just look like a job half done... the full cage looks much nicer, again probably my thinking.

    elmoscope type 1

got any photos of the rig or a couple of stills, most of us gear heads like to oOh and aRh over such stuff 😉 i think i paid $350 ish for the elmoscope, that's australian dollars the clamp was about $180 kinda pricey but at least i keep someone local fed and watered for another day. i do have one question, the anamorphic mode on the p4k is for normal lenses or spherical lenses right ? it doesn't desqueeze the image right ? Maybe my tiny little brain has missed something. Normally i shoot 16/9 drag it into resolve, stretch it and crop following one of tito's guides. Cant really try the anamorphic mode on the p4k at the moment as i rolled back from 6.8 to 6.1 for two reasons. !) just to see how hard it was. 2) I have a project in mind that may work better with dng's.

well played around with black magic camera setup utility. I now have rolled back from 6.8 to 6.1 and it was quite painless. Trick is to uninstall your current version of black magic camera setup, reinstall the older 6.1bmd camera setup utility onto your desktop/laptop then you can simply update your camera over the usb cable to version 6.1. My laptop did stall at 70% for a minute or two, but the tally light on the p4k keeps flashing and eventually it popped up with an all good message. there's approximately 300 meg size difference between 6.1 and 6.8 which sort of indicates there's a bit more going on with later versions with braw, i think probably other things as well.

thats only a new product most of the time things are marked up on ebay. a hundred pounds cheaper seems like a good deal if yo u can get it. Still i would probably buy retail as i'm guaranteed a return policy here in aus not sure how it works in other countries.
