Roberto Tolin Sommer reacted to OliKMIA in Sony A7R IV / A7S III / A9 II to feature 8K video, as new 60MP and 36MP full frame sensor specs leak
Unfortunately the Moore law and hard drive technology are not developing as fast as the sensors. I can't even imagine the hurdle to edit 8k video in h265 and/or store it in raw. Proxy can help for editing but not much for storage.
The latest high end CPUs are just expensive rebranded server processors. Most NLE don't use all these cores and Intel keeps postponing the 10nm architecture because they can't manage it. In terms of hard drive technology, the first HAMR and MAMR drives should be available next years with increased capacity but the prices should hurt because of the production cost.
Right now I'm very happy with 4k and I prefer to focus in HFR, HDR and 10-12 bits codecs. I'm no against 8k but computer are not ready for this yet.

Roberto Tolin Sommer reacted to IronFilm in CAME-TV Terapin Rig (turns your stills camera into a shoulder rig)
CAME-TV has a new camera rig that just came out, comes with a big block at the bag (for powering, monitoring, and audio):
https://www.came-tv.com/collections/came-terapin-rig/products/came-tv-terapin-rig-for-panasonic-gh4-and-gh5
Is it worth nearly six hundred bucks? (for the non-mattebox/FF version)
Hmmmm.... dunno, but I guess if it makes the client impressed with your "big camera" (totally not a stills camera! ha) then I suppose so.
Or if you actually need all the functionality there, then it can make a worthwhile value proposition to consider vs buying the components individually yourself and building it up.

I was a hard Apple fan for many years. Worked with mac from 1997 to 2014. The spanish financial crisis make that it was impossible to me to assume the costs of constant updates of software and to buy a new MacPro. I use a MacPro 3.1, from 2008, with 10 Gb of ram and a SSD. It was very difficult to work with HD video under Mac OS. FCPX don't worked with my mac because the graphic card was not supported. So i tried Linux. I installed more than 10 distributions and finally use Manjaro Budgie. My old Mac now flies. I can work with a good speed in 1080 and can also work with 4K (this with proxies). For video i use Lightworks (with Pro license) and Kdenlive. All my hardware works well and i experienced very few glitches. For my work i don't need Adobe, so i can use free software and a few propietary (Lightworks for video and Silkypix for raw photo files). My next computer can be a pc, but running Linux.

This is true. Its the best raw convertor for Fuji RAF's since they its the only one that doesn't have to reverse engineer the debayer of the goofy X-Tran array. It would be nice if Fuji/Panasonic and others would chip in some real cash to update the UI, make it faster and more user friendly. It really does a great job of pulling detail out of Fuji files that Lightroom loses, but man its a PITA to use.

I run a windows version in Wine. It's not a very popular software because the interface, but it's by far the best raw developer for Panasonic cameras (i have a GH3, a GX7 and a GX85).

Yes, it's a 1000mm f/10 Rubinar i bought in Ebay for 150 euros. It's not very sharp, but it can be used for wildlife shots with reasonable quality in HD.
You can see two secuences shot with the Rubinar in this vídeo. At minute 4:36 and 6:10.

5 years ago i made a photo of the ISS with my GH3. I made it in photo mode with a old russian 1.000mm catadioptric lens. It was incredibly difficult to find the tiny point in the viewfinder and mantain the hight speed across the sky. I made a few dozens shots and one was sharp. It was pure luck at 1/125s. This is a 100% pixels crop.

Yes, you must underexpose. The moon has to be exposed as daylight. 1/125 f11 at ISO 100 or equivalents. Jupiter and other planets reflects lower light, but the exposure can be 1/60 or 1/30 aprox.

Amazing to see the moon going the opposite, from right to left. In the northern hemisphere it goes from left to right.
