Honestly the LS300 is still a very relevant MFT cinema camera, especially if you use the Ninja package. It's a steal at this point, in my opinion.
With that said, yes, I'd very much like someone to release a new cinema camera with the MFT mount.

Reminds me of the attitude most displayed when JVC released the GYLS300. Just writing it off because it’s not the usual suspect in cinema cameras. Sharp may surprise us with something special, or it may be another product with undelivered promises. Either way it’s a step forward to bigger and better tools.

If you are looking at a 1" camcorder then I'd pause for a few weeks to see some output from the JVC HC500.
Its a lot more expensive but it has a massive spec including ProRes internal and even has a slot to record straight to SSD
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1438286-REG/jvc_gy_hc500_connected_cam_4k_professional.html
    ////EDIT////
Whoah the HC500 is FAR more expensive than I thought so maybe scratch that!!
    ////EDIT////
I have to say though that if you pick up an LS300 and pair it with something like the Tamron 16-300mm with a smart adapter then you've actually got a de-facto camcorder with a much bigger sensor for a similar if not cheaper price with all the expansion advantages if you need it.
The addition of the Ninja V to the LS300 transforms it in terms of monitoring and recording options.

    Absolutely.
1080p will be the target format for YouTube for a good while yet and with the stabilisation and re-framing possibilities, this camera has the potential to be the best camera for a sizeable number vloggers.
The faux slider move function on Panasonic 4K cameras is pretty decent as is the faux multicam of the MEVO camera and both of those features will be greatly enhanced by the extra resolution of 8K.
The camera also has decent audio options and of course that huge articulating screen.
For someone working on their own who needs to shoot content fast with the ability to add production value in post, this camera has the potential to be an absolute powerhouse.
Its interesting to see a lot of the reactions to this camera as dismissing it as a bit of novelty if not a flat out joke and I'm sure a lot of that is related to it coming from a manufacturer that is not one of the usual suspects.
I think if people look beyond that, which they should because Sharp have not only been around the block a few times but are owned by Foxconn, and consider the possibilities that it offers then they might well find that this has the potential to be a far more signficant product than it is being given credit for.

Those of you who follow me on Twitter (all one of you  ) may have seen me referring to developing a controller for the LS300 and other JVC cameras.
One thing that bugs me when recording externally with it it still having to use the fold out LCD display to see the current settings, which isn't ideally ergonomically but also its pretty difficult to see.
So here in all its taped up glory is my first mini-product for the LS300 which is a small wireless status display which shows current settings and can be mounted on a tripod handle, a gimbal handle, a rig or on the monitor itself.
And has a small switch in it tor remote start/stop recording.

For anything related to filmmaking equipment, eoshd is the place I am visiting, I also like News Shooter and for photography, cameralabs is doing a great job as reviewers.
Tony & Chelsea are sitting nowhere since I had seen them, in one of their video, holding the camera body only, instead of the huge lens (600 mm  f/5.6) attached to it. Absolutely NO professional relying on their equipment to make a living would do such a destructive move.
I am working with a GH5, which is a fantastic camera, and I am using it with manual lenses (speed booster + Nikon AIS or Voigtlander) for fictional work and music video, but I feel very frustrated while shooting personal life event (running kid) or journalistic work (such as yellow vest protest in Paris with tear gas in my eyes), as the autofocus is just so bad, losing target so easily and pumping like hell. Even my Nikon D5500 I carried once did a better job in video AF! A bit slow to grab something but much more stable staying on it.
On an ENG camera (HVX200 in the past, JVC LS300 now), I do not rely on AF efficiency that much as the ergonomic make it easy to switch from AF to MF to get the best out of both system, but in a crowd of protesters and journalists potentially targeted by flashball, I prefer to use the GH5 to be more discreet and faster to move.
I do think, that having a good autofocus system is lacking on all Panasonic cameras I used (GH1 to 5 + GM5 + G85) to get a complete and very efficient package for video work from fiction to journalism.
If there is no serious improvement in AF on the S1, I am not going to invest my money on it. GH5 and JVC LS300 (an amazing camera with its FX look with a speedbooster) will still do the job for me.

    Hi Andrew,
I'm not sure when this trend started, but companies are not plural. It is "Panasonic has", not "Panasonic have". It makes me cringe observing the increasing number of people latching on to this mistake. Companies are a grammatical singular entity even though they refer semantically to an aggregation. (Semantics refer to the meaning of a thing).
That aside, Tony's article bugged me too but after watching it several times, I realized he prefaced his negative comments with explanations of why he reached the opinion he did, and he was very careful to qualify all of his negative comments. Still, it bugged me that he posted a "commissioned" link to profit from any S1/S1R purchases - even though he says the camera is not yet a wise consumer purchase.

Had an interesting chat with JVC at BVE Expo today.
They acknowledge the LS300 is a cult classic, which is evidenced by them selling more now than they did at launch.
They had it on show with a Ninja V which again they acknowledge as the solution to the achilles heal of the viewfinder.
It looks very well matched with it actually.
The slow burn of the sales over such a long time hasn't resulted in mega sales in total and as it such an outlier of a product for them there seems little prospect of a follow up anytime soon.

The JVC GYLS300 in 2019 is still very much relevant! It is so relevant that I’m wrapping up a documentary that is 90 percent filmed with it. Not diminishing the importance of this medium, but this isn’t a “Micro Documentary” that will be released on YouTube.
It’ll be a feature length documentary that will have some historical merit within Hip Hop and Pop culture in general!!
If it wasn’t for the ease of use and IQ of Gyls300, I truly would have had some difficulty capturing the moments I tried to highlight. I know it’s an older tool, but the technology is still useful and any skilled camera op, would be able to make this camera shine!

"Old tool" but it was pretty much groundbreaking upon release and forward thinking equipment stay relevant longer.
The codec is quite "thick" also, it is not basic 8bit dSLR video.

Regarding the Gyls300 VSM, that is one of the more useful features this camera has! I truly hope that JVC brings out a successor to this sleeper hit camera. To me, the color science is superb and that Alta Sens sensor is something special!

Man that SLR magic is tiny. Mounting the lens via bodycap was a great idea, love the ingenuity.
