  1. Well done. Looks like a winner for the money, and ease of use.
  2. I guess you are talking the difference between 4096x2160 and 3840x2160?? They are different crop factors. One is using in essence full frame, and the higher one using a cropped section of the sensor. I am pretty sure the crop factor you are talking about IS different for each. "The full sensor is 4608 px wide, so the math works out to a 1.125 crop factor for Cinema 4K's 4096 px width (in m4/3 terms), and 2.25 crop factor relative to FF. Your 7mm WA lens suddenly becomes almost 8mm - a noticeable change. For UHD at 3840 px wide, the factor is 1.2 x m4/3 FL, or 2.4 relative to FF. 7mm is now 8.4/16.8mm; and your 25mm a 30/60mm. FHD 1080 will continue to use the full sensor width and preserve the nominal FL." Pete from DPR. So yes there is a change in the Crop Factors if this is your question? Maybe I am not understanding your question, please inform me and others if we don't answer your question. There is no better way to learn than to ask for advice, and there are a lot of very capable people on here that will help. Welcome aboard.
  3. +1 to that, but I am more of a fan of the BMPCC or the BMCC, thought i realize 60p is not a option on either one of them. BIG fan of Black Magic cameras. They have really helped the little guy get into some great video cameras for very little money. I hope they come out with version 2 on all of them.
  4. Speaking of Autofocus, Philip Bloom has his finial video on the subject finished if you haven't seen it already. No real susprise on the better cameras.
  5. Well if it doesn't focus well I am not buying it. The GH6 will be 3 years down the road in reality. That is a long time to hope for Canon like focusing let alone better. I think focus is the big thing now and if you lag in it I am not buying. I am too old to manual focus, and as a one man band it is hard to do even when you are young. They are still sticking to the same focus that the GH4 has. If firmware could fix it they would have done it last year. Sure it looks like they have faster readout and more HP in the computing part of it. That should help, but it is not like having Phase Detection on the sensor. That seems to be the answer for Mirrorless cameras. Look at the difference between the Sony A7sii and the A7rii, day and night focus wise. And I know it is way to early to not consider it, so we will see soon enough. March is around the corner.
  6. A topic on the Monitor part is here. Recorder I guess ebay way to go with a used Atomos, Black Magic.
  7. Well I know it seems really expensive but the only thing close is the Sony A7sii , A7rii and they are another 1,000 bucks. I am sure the A7iii will be killer, they really have to be to be honest. Sony is not going to let Panasonic steal all the limelight. But you have to set a limit on what you can afford. I am sure you can learn all you need to start with with the GH5, and it will have room to grow as you grow. Go for it, it has to be a lot better than the GH4, and that camera was killer, and still is. But easy to spend your money!
  8. I have been hoping the original A7s drops also, but I gave up holding my breath! It still is, in certain circumstances, ergo low light, the way to go for the money. Not the best overall for the money I guess, but I would still kill for one LoL. And 1080p looks great on it also.
  9. Great video, damnit I wish the GH5 was a Camcorder Factor, I would pay 3k for that! Get off the dumbass mirrorless form factor for your video cameras Panasonic that is affordable! Not everyone can afford a Varicam!

    Lenses

Wow that has a very nice look to it! Jesus I have camera, lens lust.
  11. For some reason most of the 1080p output on DSLR's, Mirrorless FF cameras, even APSC that I have seen that have 4k on them seem to suck, no clue why, but 4k looks great down sampled to 1080p. So slow motion on them is not much to write home to mother about is what I am saying. Not many cameras in that sector have 4k slo mo over 30p. Seems dedicated Camcorders are the only thing that has great 1080p with slo mo I like. So used cameras like a Sony F3 or FS100, older Panasonic camcorders, are my picks.
  12. Wow about spit my coffee out in a few scenes, great stuff!
  13. New test from Newsshooter on the speed booster on GH5 updated today. http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/02/06/panasonic-gh5-more-tests-with-the-metabones-speedbooster-xl-0-64x-and-sigma-18-35mm-f1-8/
  14. I have one I use on my iPhone 6s. Looks OK on close ups but not far away on your video. Interesting.
  15. MFT cameras have never been too good at focusing anything but native lenses for them. Only the Sony A7r mkII seems to work great with Canon lenses. It will be life in the slow lane focus wise. But a lot of people use them. They are hard to give up. But they have no external focus or aperture ring as you know, so I am not too fond myself in using them. But MFT cameras are really a great way to go. Small, lots of used lenses, great video on the Panasonic cameras. And some really cheap used ones like the G7. Looks like the GH5 is going to be a very hard camera to beat for the money, even though it is going to go for 2k.
  16. I didn't think 60p will ever be 4.2.2 in camera?
  17. I may be wrong, but I am sure I read somewhere that Canon would sue Magic Lantern if they hacked the new 5DmkIV?
  18. Well I think the next Sony A7 cameras will probably be the way to go, granted they will be nearly a $1,000.00 more than a GH5. Sony is not going to let Panasonic overcome them. Sony seems to be going for the throat lately so I would expect the next A7s will be 10 bit, god knows what else. They are not going to stand still.
  19. My first house was only $18,500.00 used.... Worth $130,000.00 there abouts now.
  20. Nobody is saying it is a Red camera, but it is a 4k camera that just happens to fit in your pocket and you have with you 24/7. And yes people have made a few big time full feature movies with them. Do the people in the audience know that, doubt they care if it is a good story with good audio. I would use one over a old 8mm to make a movie. I have no clue why people discourage new, young or old people from learning the craft of movie making. A cell phone is a great way to see if you are really interested, or talented at it enough to move up. It is basically free to experiment with. Why the hate I have no clue. I would imagine the pace at what cell phones have advanced on video has had a good influence on the big boys. Pretty embarrassing to have a cheap ass cell phone do 4k and try to sell a camera for 6000 bucks that doesn't.
  21. I shoot a lot on my iPhone 6s Plus. It is a lot better than you think with the proper apps. It is a low light beast no, is a MFT camera a low light best no. BM cameras are not low light beasts either. Lots of high end stuff does not do 4k, but iPhones do. So that is a edge also. And I have it with me all the time, so that is a plus also. And they have OIS on them also. And my Came TV 32 bit Gimbal cost me 299 bucks, a big plus money wise. Some of you guys sound like the old turds on DPR. Anything phone related Has to be crap. Far from it.
  22. On a serious note if you have a 40 million budget on a film I don't think owning a trio of those is a bad investment, not counting they are a tax write off in the end. And you can rent them out to poor people like us.
