It's been noticed in the back-end of the site that some new users are joining in order to future the agendas of PR and marketing at some companies.

It's a tricky area for me to deal with, but I'll get some advice on how to better detect it and prevent it from happening in the future.

Whilst I know it is happening, the evidence as to what exact company is responsible for which posts isn't solid enough yet to go naming them.

But rest assured if I do find out, they will be named and shamed on the front page of EOSHD.

Let´s get rid of all of them!!!!!!....I want to see BLOOD.....

I think a lot of you (all of you?) come to this thread to learn more about the camera, so I'll save my lengthy apologies for a blog post.

It's not been my finest hour, but frustration will do that to a man.

We have all been there Andrew, it happens some times, but eventually we learn to manage it a little bit better.....anyway, I don´t see the need for a lengthy apology, if you think you made a mistake, a short apology is more than enough.....most of us are happy to read your comments in any kind of subject, specially when is related to film environment,

Well said Mercer, I hope in some days/weeks after the emotional break out settle down, @Andrew Reid and @John Brawley will talk to each other and resolve this unfortunate exchange of rude words in the best way possible.....lossing JB comments will certainly be missed.

Delete every single post of mine.  All the IP that I’ve posted and shared on this forum? All those posts where I’ve shared my knowledge and experience.

Go ahead and put your money where your mouth is.

    JB

To be honest I think JB your first post didn´t have the right tone, anyway Andrew´s reaction was not the best ether, but I understand his feelings, as i understand yours......probably the best thing could be to just stop attacking each other and move on....sad to see your contributions end in this way....hope this never happens again.

I don't post on BMC user because of I'm a "follower" of the person who made the site, I post because of the community. Same reason I posted on DV info for many years or on Facebook groups or on hear. If someone acts childish and entitled then why wouldn't I call them out on it on their own site. Owning a site isn't a special thing nor is a shield to any criticisms.

Well, nobody asked you, and you feel like you have the moral to publicly call him "child" in HIS BLOG....you are just looking to attract attention my friend, if you read the whole post you can understand his reaction, and if you want to say he is mistaken you simple say something like "I think you answer was not a good answer Andrew" or something like that, not saying he is acting like a child....do you see the difference?

  7. 15 minutes ago, Myownfriend said:

I didn't see anything pompous about Brawley's posts. I see somebody whose frustrated at people who jump to conclusions or post stupid shit. I have a fraction of the experience that he does and I've also been annoyed by them too.

Andrew, you're acting like a child and I don't see, even in your childish anger, how you can claim that Brawley isn't a real DP, when I can look up the things he's shot and I can't in your case. Your post came off like an entitled guy with a ego who was all too eager to view his forum members as "followers". I don't follow you, I'm just here to talk to other forum members and have more interested in the insights of JB then I have in reading your posts. And for somebody who claims its his right as the famous Andrew Reid of EOSHD to be invited to events and get sent review cameras,  it blows my mind that you even thought Brawley worked for BMD when it was so obvious he didn't.

Andrew´s reaction was because of John called him Blogger/Camera Reviewer.....Probably some people would like a more polite answer, but since Andrew is a pasionate person he answered from that place, and I was a little shocked when I saw his answer the first time, but after readying it two times I think was OK, this is his BLOG and can answer in the way he feels it, and you are now judging him in his blog and telling him he is "like a child", well, if you don´t follow him, then why are you here?, just move to another forum, if you are here you clearly are following him.....didn´t you know this is HIS BLOG?....really?

I've already emailed my contact at Blackmagic in Cheshire about the "ingratitude". He will discuss after IBC, but I don't think I am interested any more.

There is a guy in China with a camera on his desk as I type... so clearly they have been sending out demo units left right and centre. They had 10 places at the hands-on event in Manchester and chose to invite Camera Jabber. As you rightly put it, it's just not a fair game. They either want to support EOSHD or not and they have made that crystal clear and so has John, that they don't value what I have do. I will not be a camera poodle writing adverts and at the same time I will not suffer ingratitude lightly especially from John Brawley insulting me in my own back yard while Blackmagic snub me for a hands-on also in my own backyard.

@jonpais I owe you a sorry... You were right about the guy from the start!

    Good finds!! Unbelievable isn't it!?

No it's quite the opposite. It's cathartic. I feel like the pressure is off. I can write what I want, cover what I want. It's my blog.

I don't know if the Pocket 4K Camera as a tool that benefits me yet. I haven't used one! Neither have you!

Wow....everybody got a BMP4K except Andrew, I do understand Andrew´s feelings, they were morally forced to invite him to the Manchester event after all the propaganda Andrew has made during the years for BM products......and BY FREE!!!!!!

Really a bad move from BM, well, but anyway this is probably a great oppotunity, may be now Andrew could get a Canon-R instead and give us the review we are all waiting for that new baby...

At the end, I think Andrew should stop promoting some times with so much passion some Brands that never recognise all his hard work, I remember BM sitting with NFS to explain their Camera in a very promotional Video, if they had the time to do that, at least they should have invited Andrew to Manchester event.....well, it is what it is, let´s just continue with this forum which is by far the best out there....and the only one honest!!!!!

Right tool for the right job is only applicable to people with enough money to buy a lot of tools!

if you can drop $2300 on a camera that has limited use as an all round photo camera, and requires two different sets of lenses (at the wide end) to shoot in stills vs. video, go for it.

I agree is expensive right now, but we will get a better price later, and for the things I am shooting is covering all bases, I need this camera for fiction, run and gun, and mountaineering, this is a pefect tool for me. For your case, I guess you are using a Sony, so no need to change...

    Video oriented hands-on:

Footage doesn't look too bad for a F4 lens in those lighting conditions. Pretty stable next-gen body/lens IS com. Dual Pixel AF better than C200 apparantly..

This looks great, and the DPAF is certainly fantastic, this is the camera i have been waiting for, just less expensive, I will have to wait some time for a better price....

  10. 17 minutes ago, KnightsFan said:

if you auto crop to apsc, just buy an apsc camera. It will be cheaper and have higher resolution than the cropped portion.

changing lenses takes time, which you don't have when shooting things like sports.

The right tool for the job, certainly the Canon R is not the tool for sports, there are many other options out there, for fiction, run and gun on the street without attracting much attention, I am sure the R will work fantastic....

  11. 45 minutes ago, DBounce said:

If a person doesn’t care about crop for video, but still wants full frame stills they will not buy any of the cameras you mentioned. I have to think Canon knows most shooter fall into this camp. While you are entitled to an opinion, your views are not mainstream. Most movies are still shot on cropped sensors. And most stills shooters prefer full frame. This is a  hybrid camera and thus must accommodate the populist view.

Exactly, Canon R has its place in the market, I would love to get one, right now too espensive for me, but the colors are great, the DPAF is great, I can use all my Canon glasses which is great, I am most of the time shooting with 28mm on S35 sensor so that will be no so hard to match, Canon R has a lot of potential in the right hands, of course is not the perfect camera, and the biggest problem to me is the price, but I would love to have one....

  12. I like Canon cameras, and I liked the R ether, don't care about the crop, it has DPAF which I was waiting for, but I think is too expensive for now, we need to wait for the price to go down a little, anyway, any signs there is Speed Booster on the near future?, if a Speed Booster can be added this is certainly the camera to get, just a little cheaper......

Wow that sounds damn expensive! Is that what you guys have to pay across the pond? Yikes! There is one on there for 2700 bucks, but local pickup only.

There is no seller that has sold hundreds, thousands of items EVER going to have a 100% feedback rating! Ain't happening. You could give someone something for free and they would piss a bitch it took 3 days to get there LoL.

But yeah, I would not buy one from someone with 80% rating.

There are always sellers with 100% feedback, and I agree some people complain for nothing, but to choose a seller with 80% when you are spending more than 500 buks is suicide, you have to review all his negative feedback, check it carefully, and if you see a lot of unjustified complains, well yes, you can choose a seller up to 98%, there is a reason I never had an issue buying from ebay meanwhile others are craying in the corners their money gone, as I said, I have more than ten years buying from ebay....and never lost my money!!!!

Not sure if anyone has experience with eBay sellers internationally, but this looks like a great deal from a reputable seller.

Any thoughts? Will I have to pay import taxes or something?

Forget it….for a C100 only choose a seller with 100% positive feedback….and I have a lot of experience buying from ebay!!!

Me either! Who cares what brand is on the front? I love my Canon gear, but I am deeply disappointed at how poor this particular product is. I feel like those reviewing it just have a really distorted perspective of what else is out there. Like the number of people I read who talk about Canon mirrorless as being good, who haven't used any of the other mirrorless systems at all. None. I had the M6 and I've had a bunch of M1's. The M50 is just so disappointing. Nothing to do with brand allegiance.

I've never really enjoyed the A6xxx series. In fact I don't particularly like any of the Sony ILCs, but it isn't really about the 'ergonomics'. In fact the later A7 series have excellent ergonomics (apart from maybe a few minor things), but I just don't really love the cameras. The A6xxx are reasonably capable and as mentioned I think they simply outclass the Canon in every way.

Where I am the A6300 is cheaper at the moment the M50 cost me.

I am really struggling to find things I do like about this camera. I think that its actually pretty ok when I pair it with my 22mm pancake as a basic point and shoot. So yes. But there are so many other cameras that fill that roll just as well if not better to much, much better. An X-E3 comes to mind - A WAY better camera than this thing. Again going off prices where I am.

I mean, this is kind of interesting if you have a load of these lenses. However this has been an option with cameras like the GX85 for a long time now. That camera is WAY better than this M50. Yes Canon colour is appealing, their 4K is nice too, but the rolling shutter plus EIS just work totally against it. I'm not fussed by the crop either. The lack of DPAF is quite sucky though.

Maybe. If you can get over how awful it is to use first. Still think there are better options out there.

Yes I really should have held off. People like Andrew and Dave were just saying such nice positive things about this little camera I was so temped to have a nice compact Canon option. The M5 II would be really interesting with this processing and with a faster sensor.

Then there is the complete lack of lenses. Sure adapt people say, well it's still missing really key lenses. 35mm f/1.4 is meant to be coming. They need a 50-60mm f/1.8 or similar too. Heck what they REALLY need is Sigma to release their DN series primes for the mount. The 16/30/56mm f/1.4s on the M5 II could be quite a thing. Canon just need then to sort out their controls a bit better and unify their menus and they'd have a very nice product on their hands.

As it stands now I give the M50 1-star.

Thanks for the news MdB, I was thinking to get a M50 in the near future, but now based in your reviews I think I will wait for the next Canon release, if at least the M50 had DPAF in 4K I will get it anyway, the price is really right (around $500 now), I hope M5 II is released soon....

There is always a middle budget too, we sometimes shot with team of 4-5, not big enough for Alexa but more budget than low budget lol. We always have external sound with it, pre amp from external recorder is so much better and cleaner than build in camera like canon C lines

To be honest, in my experience for middle budget I will use both, I had a team of 6 with two guys doing sound to an external recorded with 5 labs and one shotgun (all sennheiser) and they screwed up in some shoots, today I will never take that risk again, I will also add a shotgun to the C100 as a backup, even if I do it with the R1, of course in this scenario I will add an external JuicedLink pre-amp to improve recording fidelity….

  17. 8 hours ago, IronFilm said:

I feel you're 150% missing the point, as it wouldn't even matter if the C100 had pre amps "twice as good" as my sound recorder, as it simply is an impractical workflow to not use an audio recorder/mixer and instead record straight to camera for scripted narrative filmmaking of a certain level of complexity. To do so would undoubtedly lead to worse audio

Of course for a higher level of productions is always better to choose external recording, but I though we were talking about projects in a budget....if I have the money I will do narrative only with an Alexa and the best sound recorded of the market, since I don`t have the money I can only afford a team of two or three people, and the pre-amp of the C100 are incredible good for the cost....

Maybe they tried that last time and are why they're getting me now ?

Most probably they didn´t know how to record audio, that´s always the main issue with people who think the audio is recorded just pressing the start button, the pre-amp in the C100 are fantastic, I can always get a clear audio from ProTools, I am assuming the audio recording in the C200 is similar or better, I hope so, if you find out the pre-amps are crap, please lets us know in advance…..that will be really disappointing….
