The lack of this lens is like the only reason I've still not committed to the m43 system. But if they make it as big and expensive as the 25 then I'm out.

It's not that expensive if you compare it to Sony lenses for example. It will be big as you can't avoid physics but it won't be a behemoth. 25 is nice but it's not a focal lenght I like to use.

You can certainly get there if you're willing to go w/speedbooster.  Although, something like this would be physically too big and too expensive after the speedbooster...

The expensive speedbooster opens up a lot of other lens choices.

Besides, at a certain point they're battling optical physics.  You can only make it so small and keep it fast, right?

I'm going this route with the canon 24 1.4 but at some point it would be nice to have a fast native lens to cover it.

  2. I sometimes think if it's not us being anals about RS. I imagine myself with wide arms open screaming "didn't you see that???! It's UGLYYYYY" and being ignored like one of those the-end-is-coming guys.

It moves. It adds something raw. It's organic. It's real...

    It's missing rolling shutter? :grimace:

I love the raw look of a good shouldercam but in non fiction IBIS can be the difference between something usable or not.

  4. I would have been happy before, but ergonomics and reliability are important and Sony is not big on them. The moment I saw the E-M1 MKII I fell in love with it. The only missing thing on the pana-oly is a 17 1.2 lens, but I can always speedboost my canon 24 1.4. I don't know how the a6300 sales have been but I know people, me included who passed the moment overheating made its ugly appearance and the IBIS was missing. Good times and lots of great gear to choose.

  5. Both are great and will do fine. The karma puts gopro at DJIs level. We can probably say that it will be a battle between size, ease of flight and use against stability and quality. The problem is I don't see these drones as complementary, it will be an either or decision for buyers. Unexperienced drone users will go for the mavic with it's safety features, I'm sure of that.

Looks excellent. And super compact size.  And Huge price difference between this and the GoPro. The GoPro is $800 for Drone Only (without camera).

@DaveAltizer chose the right word; slaughter comes to mind. Both are good options, the gopro comes with the hand stabilizer but the ease of use, size and sensors for not throwing the thing against a wall its going to make it a no brainer. Hell, It's the first time I'm thinking I could use a drone in weddings as a solo operator, hit, get the shot and run, go figure!

Why not just use a rx100m4? Flip out screen, 4k and tiny?

Mic input. It's going to be a nice camera and I rather have 1080 50p than 4k 25p in case I need the slow motion, which is quite often. But that screen, that flip down freaking screen. Why can't we have tilty flippy screens everywhere?

No, if they have a 30min limit I'll wait until they release a GH5R or skip the "5" generation.

If they don't include V-Log, I'll wait until they got pressured into including it right away.

By the time they release the GH5R who knows what the rest of the camera manufacturers would have presented. They should sell the GH5 without the nonsense penny pincher EU tax or cope up with it and let customers have it. At least sell the Vlog with the unlocking door as a light hack or whatever. I mean, phones don't have that limit, right?

    ENG shoulder shooting is overrated.

I can fit three bodies with five lenses in an european airplane check-in size backpack. Backup bodies, all usable focal ranges and still place for audio, a laptop and stuff. No ENG or FS5 can do that. Add IBIS and it's nearly impossible to match. DSLR and mirrorless are very popular for that reason.

We know they can do raw, we know they can fit internal NDs (FZ2000) and now with the GH5 we know they can do 4k 50p with a big sensor. It's not about high end features or price, it's body size. I couldn't care less if an actor said the camera doesn't look professional enough if the image does. I really love the form factor.

OIS/IBIS doesn't help against the camera getting heavy in your hand and parallax movement of the camera against anything that is close. It just keeps you pointed at the same object from a slightly different angle.

Some people around here hate Nitsan and probably have their reasons, but one thing I leant from him and I love is the RatRig, Gorilla Pod combination. Tripod, slider, shoulder mount solved. I use it and for long ceremonies is perfect.

  10. I shoot with the RX10II and don't have any regrets, it's one of my best gear decisions ever. It covers any M43 lenses in a compact powerzoom form over f4, so that makes most of them until now; has 5axis stabilization; gives Slog to match his bigger brothers in a vast different range of prices mostly well, not like Canon; can record to SD cards 4k footage, accepts the XLR-K2M adapter, can be hacked to remove the time limit and doesn't overheat. All in all I think it's Sony's best camera right now.

The only PITA is the lack of a touchscreen, and that's the reason the G80 or the OM-D E-M1 MKII are looking so interesting right now, but weddings pay my butter so I have time to hold my GAS and wait for what Sony presents at CES and see if finally they add a touchscreen to the a7 line. My only reason to go FF is that brides and grooms in Slovakia and Spain tend to dress in ugly as hell rooms and to be able to have background separation in full body and 3/4 portraits and videos is a godsend. For the rest M43 and 1 inch sensors are all love and bridges can cover 60% or even 70% of a shoot very well. My 2 cents of course.

    This isn't HD - it's like a pirated stream at 360p.

Hopefully, like every camera launch movie, the person who made it hasn't done the camera justice.

The video is just horrible. They're capable of screwing it on purpose to move video shooters somewhere else. It's says beta and you may be right, the person doing it could be just oblivious to the video settings, but c'mon, that's the kind of camera we were asking from Canon. I hope they rectify somehow.

Dream on. You sound like those people who demand a GH5 for $1500 with 4k raw internally. I even don't find it likely that it will have 4k 10-bit internally, but of course, if it has, I won't  object that.

1080 60p is not that demanding. I guess it's just an external screen attached to the BMMCC with better controls. Yeah, I guess i'm dreaming.

If Panasomic pushes the boundaries with the GH5, it's because they have no other choice but to. They relinquished their #3 spot in mirrorless market share to Canon last year. They need to either be bold, or make microwaves.

Agreed, with so many cameras to choose for and even olympus entering 4k and rumors of better AF, Pana is getting less love. Onwards and upwards, 4k 60p, better low light, better AF, IBIS. If they don't do it, somebody will with a FF, APSC or M43 sensor will... Varicam is high end but doesn't mean that kind of stuff can trickle at some form down. And please, use the freaking grip to record backup.

The Canon guy's body language was very defensive.....I don't think he believed the spin he was giving, lol.

Funny you mention that. i guess canon fanboys are going to be on the defensive side from now on. I mean, who needs an EVF, Log, tilty swively screen, eye AF when you have dual pixel raw, dual pixel AF and dual cards. At least they added a touchscreen, not like those Sony losers.
