  1. Well, it was more broadcasty than the years before and so a little more boring than usual but we kind of saw new solutions for the cameras that we have. New and better LED lights, that Ikan 3.5" monitor/EVF that I want to see reviewed for the BMMCC, the crazy Edelkrone jib, the DJI X5 rig... Boring but still entertaining.

The GH4 already has superb battery life. Only the GX85's 5-axis stabilisation may be the extra features. Also, I felt (from Matt's talk, or someone else's) that Panasonic will re-introduce the YAGH module, but streamlined this time, and not look so outrightly cumbersome and functionless. The SDIs and time codes seemed inappropriate. Maybe micro XLR, and modules for SSDs.

I just want the 5-axis, better low light, a recording YAGH for backup and the same focus transitioning as the 80d without the stuttering and self doubt. I know, not easy, but not incredibly out of reach either.

The YAGH was a missed opportunity to replace the AF100 but the idea was really clever, I hope you're right and sell a new version.

Cineform is also a recent SMPTE standard (VC-5), and defined for MXF wrapping. It's not like if ProRes+QT is the only player in town.

I wonder what could Blackmagic do to integrate Cineform ST 2073 VC-5 as a codec for their cameras, being crossplatform it would start to make sense over Prores, even more now. Specially if it can be encoded in PC and mac.

  4. C'mon @TheRenaissanceMan, speculating is just part of the tradition in a forum, it doesn't matter if it's Andrew who does it, everybody needs to have fun sometimes. Until a couple of hours ago a lot of people were salivating with the idea of a BMPCC2! And related to the GH5 there was a rumor already quoting the 6k, which I consider it unnecessary -although I wouldn't say the same for 4k 50p-; 10bit is a new rumor to me and I doubt Pana will go with that except, maybe, through the HDMI; but after the GX80 5-axis is a must specially with non pana lenses! Give a little better low light performance and plenty of people in this forum will say Sonywhat?

If white light going in the sensor with a temperature of <x> is converted (with certain settings, for example 5900K) to RGB and shown in the EVF and the EVF also shows light with a temperature of <x> in that case, shouldn't that same EVF with the same settings output a temperature of <y> when light with a temperature of <y> hits the sensor?

You set the WB to X=white. If the temperature of your subject changes to Y your EVF will still be set to X= white, so Y will have a cast, either warmer if Y is lower Kº or blueish if Kº. The EVF won't compensate for that; your eye will, you have AWB on all the time as you said.

Also remember to never trust the EVFs or LCDs completely. Sometimes they have a cast and can't be color calibrated so you'll have to learn their bias and count with it when you're shooting or you'll get the differences once they reach the edit phase.

  6. The Boya looks OK although I'm not sure about the build quality, but for that price you can buy multiple units and see. I wouldn't cry if it breaks -lol I was talking about the WM5 that look cheap and bad - the wm6 looks quite OK. And for the Sara, you're right, I din't realize it was impossible to control them individually, my bad! If I could I'd just jump to the Rode, but at the moment it's out of my league.

The frame was from the zoom with a bit to much iso, it was getting dark.

What do you mean by high ISO? it looks like grain, zero color noise and nice detail too. Man you're making me reconsider! I don't have access to the camera now, it's a pity I can't test again in the dark venues with lights off for dancing I usually get, but I would try it again if I could, I'm starting to guess it was user error! And like I said, Jlog is beautiful, that's for sure. My children are now fans of Gunpowder!

You must have missed the part where it does have a tilting display...

Probably he's mentioning the lack of vari-angle. It's an error in my opinion; in that price bracket and with the 5axis it would have been great to shoot selfie vlogging style or not to kill yourself shooting somebody while walking backwards.

The GH5 can't arrive soon enough!!!! I hope it carries all of this!

And colors? Honestly, I think you should have done a real review.  Most here value your opinion, and I for one feel you should have put it through its paces and posted your findings in a detailed story. Odds are the 80D will still sell a ton, so the review might have been helpful to many.

The menu in the Sony's is so extensive you can nail canon colors if you try. The only real problem it has is the overheating but if people do short form the a6300 beats to the dust the 80D. Canon should get rid of the viewfinder and tuck there an EVF for a start.

  10. I know! It's a great little camera that could be a great b-cam for lots of situations; and we are complaining about how we would like to have two SD cards for backup when the PXW-X70 has them already, The BOSS stabilization on the X53 doesn't have match and the Z150 looks like a pro version of all three, alas, none of them have Slog to match with the big boys.

Probably the mk4 next month will get the constant f2.8 lens version ;-)

Caaaaan't wait that muuuuuuuuuuuuch! -spoiled brat rant- :D

  12. And it loses the ND filter too, so no constant aperture and no ND. I think it's worst but now it gives the option to go Sony Slog to all those FZ1000 Pana users. I just don't understand why they named RX10III, does it means that we won't see a new 2.8 lens version? That would be sad!

  13. I agree with the sentiment here, I would love a smaller product, something like the BMPCC with better battery life, 60p 1080p on a 1" sensor. Knowing it won't be serviced in the country it's a risk I can take with a product I don't have to buy on credit and pays itself quickly.

Sony/Panasonic/Samsung however are the only ones really pushing hard forward. Not Canon.

And Sony has better specs sometimes than Panasonic, but Panasonic cameras are priced cheaper and better polished (such as no overheating issues, better laid out menus. Also, why the hell does the A6300 not have a touch screen?? The A5100 does!). So I'd say G7

The G7 is a near perfect camera, but for my needs it lacks the headphone jack and the DFD, which is a pity. I loved my Vitaliy'd GH2 and I hope the GH5 will even include the hybrid stabilization for it's price point. This could be my last Canon camera, which I'm happy about it.

Don't rely on ML to hack it when making the decision. ML has slowed down and really shifted.

I agree, I don't count with it; in fact I agree that nobody should buy anything on a manufacturer's promises, if something fits just buy it, if it don't then skip it. But ML would be a nice have.
