I can see shutter speed, aperture, iso, light meter, a live histogram and zebras BEFORE and DURING capturing video. That should be sufficient for monitoring your exposure. Not sure which LUMIX you're talking about, but this one is fully featured.

I find this curious as well. Shooting video, in my mind, needs manual focusing. And most of what I shoot is documentary style, not narrative, so if pulling focus in a run n gun situation is doable, then it's even easier when things are under control.
I can't imagine letting any auto system control focus for me. I'm open to being convinced otherwise, but I certainly don't trust it.
Yet, in online comments such as these, auto focus seems to be one of the items at the top of spec sheets people like to acquire and/or brag about.
Of course, if you need the speed for action photography, different story
For video though, I'll stick with my collection of cheap old manual glass and the less inclined can buy the fancy stuff.

The GX80 finally arrived in Norway too. First impressions are really good and stabilizer is truly amazing! If anyone is building a rig with an external monitor please share some images of it.

Hi Andrew, I am looking forward to your next part on the GX85/ 80/ 7 markii. If you could please test:

    1. Image sharpness with a lens like the Leica 42.5mm f1.2 or 25mm f1.4, especially on comparing it with the GX8 and GX7 would be great.
    2. Some high photos from sporting events or any high speed action would be great. Especially compared to other Panasonic or Olympus cameras.

    3. Video recorded into Blackmagic 4k Monitor would be greatly appreciated. I am curious as to how well it holds (and grades), including the mic preamps on that one. And, how it compares to everything else on the market.

VariCam is probably one or two generations away from entering the castle with it's sword drawn...but King Arri will probably put stop to that revolting nonsense. F65 is a Knight at the round table
If the big boys stopped waving their resolution and iso performance stats around - and instead worried more about colour rendition and simply a 'nice looking image', then Arri would have a contender. As it is however - nobody understands what a filmic image should be, or how crews are meant to work around a camera - quite like Arri does.

Its nice that they are getting 4K, but imo, an old 5Dmkiii with ML still beats A7sii/rii, GH4, etc and probably will trump the GH5 as well.
So there is a big chance the new 5Div will get its ass kicked by its own predecessor.

The colour is very much like the 1D C / 1D X Standard JPEG profile and the files seem to feel nice and chunky this time round.

I know that the EU version have the (stupid) 30 mins record limitation, but it is PAL locked (25/50 fps) or it could be switched to NTSC (24 / 30 / 60 fps)?

I will be in Barcelona next month and would like to get one, but if the region is locked, no game. :/

The Blackmagic Video Assist as well as the newer Atomos Flame and Inferno series. We're working on making the HDMI recording functionality more compatible with recorders.
False color works on the raw data to let you know when your first channel clips. Because the D16 doesn't do any internal highlight recovery or noise reduction, we thought it'd be good to know this. This means that you have anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 of a stop more highlight range in the raw file than you'd get over HDMI. So In raw at 800 ISO you're gonna see close to six stops of overexposure range, but in the HDMI you're gonna see around 5 1/3.
I will ask about being able to separate the LCD from HDMI.
Our goal is to make the current camera as best as it can be before we start trying to sell people a new one.

The D16 was already feature jammed compared to the BMPCC, etc. And today it got some more tools in the box.
    Full list of features:
    Display color gamuts
    Display gammas
    Accurate display color tuning
    False color exposure view mode
    Improvements to image encoding
    Improvements to ISO accuracy

And in case someone forgot what the camera can do.

GX85 using the Panny 42.5 f/1.7, a little wobbly but considering its a 85mm equivalent, pretty good. Now I just need to remember to white balance...

This video is great because of what it proves.
The moral of this video:   Image stabilisation IS NOT A FUCKING STEADYCAM!  Stop trying to use it as one. Did any manufacturer ever promote IS by saying how good it is to walk round with? I will be suprised if they have.  Its designed to compensate for involuntary hand shake when you are trying to hold the camera still, thats it.
The added distortion an jittering looks worse than if you just walked around slowly with the camera on monopod.
By the looks of it the GX80 will be excellent for getting 4k static shots with a prime lens without a tripod.  That is great and all that it needs to be.

I have a Zoom H1 which I stick into a Rode shockmount, and that does a pretty good job to isolate handling noise. I also have a couple of VideoMic Micros which are great for getting very good reference audio, or ambiance, and possibly a viable backup if everything goes to hell.

But really, you need to get a wireless lav system (I have the Rode wireless kit, it works great) if you're going to have people speaking in non-controlled situations. The H1 might be ok if you can put it on a stand and place it close to the subject, but unless you can stick close to the speaker every time they say something you're not going to get consistent sound. One thing I like to do is to run the wireless receiver into the H1, then the H1 into the camera, and just leave the H1 recording all the time. It's an awful lot of audio to comb through later, but you never know when they'll say something interesting when they're off camera. Tell them what you're doing though!

Or get a sound person. They're worth their weight in gold.

I haven't done a direct comparison (I should), but I prefer the wind noise isolation (I live somewhere really windy) and the smaller size of the Rode Micro when using my G7/E-M5II cameras and I have the ability to record internally.  The Shure is an excellent solution (others have noted its sensitivity, but lack of directionality), and I can also connect the Shure output to a camera that has an input to give be a backup recording (on both the VP83F and camera).  It just has a few more steps involved (and to forget) then popping on the Rode Micro and plugging it in.
I was thinking of the getting a couple of the Little DARlings as I can use them with lav mics as well as use them to record from any other type of mic (on or off camera).  I use a couple of E-M5II due to the IBIS but I'm thinking of selling them (and my G7) for the GX80 so I will need some sort of external recording solution.  I'll be left with GX80 and LX100 as my two cameras and neither of them has a mic input.
I really want to focus on the smallest and quickest audio solution that will give me much better sound than the camera built-in mics.  That is why I'm patiently waiting for the Instamic to ship.

Crappy lighting and limited movement, this may be nominated for worst initial footage, but it's all I have at this point. Shot with the kit lens.

Love mine so far... It's all about the stabiliser, leave the tripod at home... It's basically an Olympus E-M5 II with 4K video, none of the Sony menu troubles, decent physical control layout, good EVF and tilt screen.

5 axis IBIS works well with the EF Speed Booster with primes.... Not much luck with zooms or IS lenses yet, maybe Metabones needs to update firmware.
Loving the 4K image so far.

    Nice!
Saw one store just reporting stock on the body only here as well now. Waiting for the kit though, as it's only 100 EUR more than just the body around here. For that I'm eager to see what that usually GM-paired lens is about. The small form factor is cool, probably will lack a bit performance/character, but you know, an effectively 100 EUR lens, what's there to complain? Might even put those 14mm and 20mm pancakes to good use again. That's just one side of it: having a microsized option to shoot with. Doesn't attract much attention either I'd say; nice and low profile. Although the real cool thing of course is pairing the BIS with cinema primes and boosted adapted glass. It's no GH5, but I gotta assume it's fun.
If you're looking for EU availlability, I usually just check http://geizhals.eu/?fs=gx80&in= .

    1. selling your A6300
There's just no way I'm going to put up with a camera that gives me such hassle, even if it shits rainbows.
I'd rather use a G7 and just deal with it.
Respect if you go above and beyond to make it work for you with fans 'n schtuff though.

Well, i usually do speeches, lectures, events and whatever pay me well haha Never got the chance to put the a6300 on one of these jobs, as i'm still geting used to it and seeing if i can really trust it for that kind of stuff, but its doing fine so far.

I also do some short films, which is what i really like to do, and i am using it for an art video that a friend of mine is directing, first serious stuff where i decided to use it. I wasn't recording all the time, but the camera was always on in video mode with the screen turned on (what is usually enough for it to start overheating) for 3 hours with 30m of recorded footage. Overheating warning didnt even showned up, the camera was still in a "not so warm" stage and the cheap $15 (R$50) powerbank i've bought for tests only droped from 89% to 68%)
Well, its pretty unbalanced for run n gun if you use the powerbank+fan setup. The cage may help in make it better to handle, but ergonomically its not the better choice. Without this setup the batery life sucks and you got overheating, so no good too. The worst part for the fan setup for run n gun its that the fan makes any audio from the camera unusable. The audio may come from an external recorder. But the image quality it gives speaks for itself and you can't find anything in its price point that beats it, especially in low light. Rolling shutter is bad but can be worked out planing your shoots and avoiding whip pans.
Just keep in mind that the camera its just a tool and that you may have to choose the best tool for each job and work around the limitations of the tool you choose. The a6300 is about pure image quality, not ergonomics, ease of use and all that kind of stuff. For that stuff i still keep my G7, which fells way better than the sony and which i enjoy using far more than the sony. But if i need the best image quality i can get, low light or slow mo, i'll take the sony any day. Its a pain to use it, it fells wrong when you put a powerbank and a fan in it,  but damn the images it makes...

I've adapted an 3cm silent fan powered by a usb powerbank that feeds the camera and the fan. Never got any overheating problems and the powerbank lasts eternally (i live in Rio de Janeiro,  pretty hot all the year). The in camera audio goes unusable, but i never use it anyway. Rolling shutter still the though, so keep this in mind while planing your shoots. Wide angle lens with is helps for handheld stuff and a gimbal may be welcome.  Image quality is awesome and low light i think its the best in its price (its not an a7s, but really good). Only problem its its auto wb that seems to always miss it,  so doing it manually its the way to go.
