  1. Really? I'm glad I read this, I was about to buy it. it goes for 1300 on newegg. before that I was into aspire v nitro, but also found reviews with the same heating issue. I read that the Lenovo y520 ($1000) does quite a good job with heating..http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-budget-gaming-laptop-so-far/ although I would like to start with a 6gb GPU, for a 1000 bucks, I am considering it..
  2. I shoot with a digital bolex and a gx80, transcoding to prores and/or shooting 1080 when I need to to edit my own footage. So I am now looking for a machine that I can rely to use Davinci not heavily, but extensively... I need a laptop, and in doubt if a gtx1050ti GPU is enough, or if I should find a gtx1070 (since gtx1060 usually does not compensate). I have seen people using using laptops with proper GPU, and read loads of discussions on gaming forums, but wanted to hear experiences from video people using mainly davinci but also premiere. so, for $800 a laptop with a gtx1050 GPu ( like a basic dell Inspiron) $900 up 1.100 - gtx1050ti 1.100 - gtx1060 - 6gb ( such as the predator Helios 3000) 1.300 and up you can find a laptop with gtx1070 So, would recommend a bit of money sacrifice up to the gtx1070 laptop, or a 1050ti or even 1050, is already enough, in your experience for a basic edition, with no hassle, on davinci and or 4k on premiere..?
  3. Hey guys, for those who shoot solo, how have you been working around with audio so far? I already have a G3 senheiser and a mic (audiotechnica at875r). So, any idea of the smallest phantom xlr audio setup? So far the tascam 70d looks like an option. The tascam dr-10 would be great but no phantom power. I have just stumbled into this, anyone knows it? https://www.amazon.com/Saramonic-SR-VRM1-Digital-Recorder-Microphones/dp/B01M6V955P... I don't discard the possibility of buying the Shure vp83f... Do you have come to any other workarounds? Cheers!
  4. hahaha ok. Thanks man yes I guess is just a matter of jumping out of the fence.
  5. have done it. Now Blade or VA? VA colour accuracy is not that good I hear. Being able to record proxy is an advantage though. And I don't no how critical is the sound out of the fan. And focus peaking (or ability to nail focus) differences..
  6. so what are the states of things now between atomos blade, ninja 2 and the Video assist? - Do the focus peaking of any works any better on any? ( is focus peaking adjustment useable at all on the ninja 2 with such a low res?) - fan sound out of BMVA...bummer? others differences that may have changed... - colour accuracy
  7. looking to build a zeiss tevidon set to use it with d16 . As I have already bought a switar 16mm I may be interested to buy other kern's....
  8. Just bought one, very happy. I hoppe my obssessed quest related to camera acquisition stops for years to come. The image I see coming out of this cam does not make me want anything else while all the others do.
  9. Hey mattias, for how much are/were you selling it? you guys think it is the dumbiest idea to buy one now? I was about to pull the trigger when this comes out. I picture myself using it for years but have no idea if in a year to come the camera will be much cheaper or if there will be any at all available.
  10. https://vimeo.com/168468785 - gh4 gx85 comparison well yes, it is not methodic,( the test is not mine) but same lenses, same preset. stabilization works well with non is lenses, we know that, but this shows very different colours from both cameras, altough sunlight was a bit different in both shots I thought I was enough to get a glimpse of what andrew meant when he said canon-like colours
  11. Anyone know if it is possible to use external recorder on it? It says on the firmware update news link : "This version may be compatible with HDMI recorders, however further testing is necessary." Can't find info to know whether it was already possible to proper record it externally, or if maybe now it could be. I would buy it if I could sometimes shoot on proress externally.
  12. for some, the most important thing is the amount of light rather than dof aesthetics. so the "proper" comparison is relative
  13. Really? What kind video work do you do? I mean, for how long do you shoot it usually on a day and do your shots take longer than 20 min? I had completely taken the a6300 out of my radar due to overheating problems since I also live in Brazil....
  14. I'm pretty shure they went back to add some mic inputs
  15. Nice! how do you compare the two? is the micro more directional? Why not using the shure instead of Micro + Little darling? the micro boom pole can be an option for more formal - talking heads - inverview. or even the zoom would suit in that case as matias point out, but not so good for run gun. Ntg 4 or 3 sound good enough, but it would need an XLR pream. I see the tascam DR10x as an option or this new rode i-xlr rode yes, thanks! I have had the zoom h4n and used it with wireless mic, the thing is it must be attached to the camera as I wont have time to install it, and most of the times will not be close enough to people to use an ambience recorder.... But since the gx80 does not have a mic jack we need a small, portable solution
  16. Hey guys, I know there are infinite solutions for external audio recording but I wanted to hear some experiences from people who are working alone and have come with a good/smallest-quality solutions. p.s: I am not by any means an audio guy, and will not be mixing it, but just want equipment tips to record it properly.. I have the gx85 in mind -for ultra small webjournalism package, and on its topic some ideas have come up: - Zoom h1. It can be an alternative for ambiance, but it does not satisfy interview needs, speech needs. - L bracket + Juiced Link Little darling + Lav's, it would be perfect for Wireless conections but I found ( on my few experiences) that even on interviews shotguns worked better and most of the time will not have time to mic up. + Video micro on top. that's a cheap alternative. but is it good enough? from what distance can I still get acceptable sound? + Adding shot gun's - a Senheiser MKE 600 - with an adapter* (or something else) would turn water to wine quality (than the micro)? If so size would be rethought. * this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/885062-REG/kopul_lmt_100_lo_to_hi_impedance.html - Shure vp83 is another option but I hear frustrations having it intended as a directional mic and if so, a zoom h1 would do better ( smaller) what other solutions, experiences or ideas you have? Thanks in advance!
  17. @kidzrevil these first shots are just amazing. Colours, movement..beautiful.. Congrats! not handheld right? vlog? internal?
  18. I am buying this cam for runn gun web journalism. Not having a mic forces me to give proper atention to audio recording, not big fan of the zoom h1 though, porbably the juicedlink with a good and small directional mic. I am not convinced yet about how smooth the 5axis is... On the stills side every time I see a Pen-F photo it looks like another league.... I keep trying to convice me that new pana stills are almost as good as, say a 7d, but they actually look plasticky while the olympus not so much.... Still, this camera is so small and practical. I am buying it
  19. well, I guess it was too long. to make it short: Have no camera. Had a gh2 and 7d. I need to buy a camera, or more than one for several purposes and would like some opinion. 1. a Camera to shoot narrative work and doc. Ideally the bolex or the pocket cam 2. a camera to shoot web journalism ( 7D quality, so not great) and great photos ( no need of AF), at least a6000 quality. 3. a camera I can eventually rely to shot gigs and corporative work. g7, pocket, a6000.. ? I would of course love to have only one camera. but I am leaning towards buying the bolex, borrow canons for the other jobs and waiting for either the fuji xt2 or maybe the small to come gm7 ( small 4k.. ) what camera would you guys buy, or what downsides you experienced with some of these cameras? any opinions would be appreciated... thanks!
  20. Hey Guys. So, I need to buy a camera. I had both my gh2 and 7d stolen and have been since december renting/borowing cameras. I have read thousands forum review etc but stil strugling since I realize deciding the camera(s?) I need also is a decision on what I want/need to shoot. I want to spend at around maximum 1500, maybe only 400 and wait or up to 2000 if I feel is the perfect choice. I have shot more weddings than I wanted to, some art experimental work with theather, gigs few corporatives and one independent doc. I bought the gh2 thinking of narrative work and doc and have done only one and maybe some experimental that made me happy. That's my fault. my purposes are several but on the next months I will start shooting a doc inside a small prison(static observative,4k cropping low light, and F. Wiseman style) also want to jump on small webdocs journalism shoot a short film (indoor light) and an outdoor dock about fisherman - handheld. I see the g7 on the prison doc, any canon or a6000 for the webdoc(the platform already uses this cameras) and the bolex for both the short and the outdoor doc. trying to split what I need/want ideally: 1. So I need/want a camera that can shoot narrative work and also serious docs with beautiful skin tones and colours. I would go for a Bolex d16 here. I can buy a used one for maybe 2000, 2500 bucks. another option more convient for run n gun serious doc is the pocket. 5dmarkIII...Altough I have loved my gh2 ( I always wanted to like panny more than I actually do) I don't think I would want to use the g7 with proper lighting setup for narrative. people skins get blocky and no color graduations.. 2. I have ocassionaly shot gigs musical clips and corporative work. The panasonic g7 would be perfect for that, since the 4k plays a nice role here, but I actually want to get out of this world as much as I can but I know I will eventually need to shoot something comercial and it would be good to have something trusty by my side. bolex with raw files is no good. pocket is maybe doable. sony a6000 not sure.. canons doable but not great. 3. A camera to shoot (non ML 7d quality) webjounalism. and good photojournalism. basically any 8bit camera would do here but I am not convinced g7 would not be up there with for the stills( yes I have seen thousand of good photos, and was sometimes happy with my gh2 20mm1.7 combo. Bu I am always blown when I see FF photos, a7 or 6d. a6000 is a huge step bot also not up there. Sony a7 maybe best option here. ( have several zuiko takumar lenses that would be great to use on a full frame or maybe apsc (a600) for photos. em5II not enought for photos IMNSHO. a6300 was my hope for all of the above but bad 1080 RS, and after seeing so may sony footage I realized I dig it for doc stuff but it is not really what I want. So I realize I will maybe buy more than one camera. maybe a used pocket and used g7( and forget outstanding stills), maybe wait till mark III drops. maybe only bolex and rent/borow cameras for small jobs... maybe a6000 and pocket... maybe 6d ( is the ML any good? ) I have a panny 20mm 1.7 a sigma apsc 18-50 2.8 a tokina 11-16mm (canon) several vintage glasses zuiko, takumar helios, jupiter 9,8 konica 40mm1.8, and I also usually work with my brother who owns a 5dII 70-200 -2.8 , 16-35mm 2.8 and other L glasse that we would use on bigger projects. I am fine with only on good AF glass for still and mostly use MF ( that is I would buy a 24mm 1.8 for sony or sigmas) no need for canon cameras, no need for panny ( maybe a 45mm 1.8 zuiko) for bolex I would one old c mount lens for the pocker no need for lenses maybe a speedbooster. it is worth mentioning that where I live it's relevant for purposes 2 and 3 camera brands. Most people - on that kind of jobs - work with canon, very few with the pocket and sony. And while with the gh2 I was out of several cooperative jobs because of that or borrowed some up until when I bought my now gone 7d. Sorry for the extensive writing. I have really digging my grave spending so much time since december reading forums. give me some good insights, please!
  21. Has anyone used or seen a d16 being used for a one-man rngun doc? Great audio option is great but I don't know what could be other drawbacks. Tempted to buy one
