    Beholder DS1.

    Wonderful.

Be prepared to spend zero hours tweaking it.
Be prepared to spend zero hours balancing it.
Be prepared to switch from a heavy camera to a light one by pushing a little button 3-times.
I think the Beholder DS1 wins for exceptional engineering.
And it is EXTREMELY compact and easy to tote around.
Got mine with 2 sets of batteries that each last about 3-hours. So 6-hours of shooting without a recharge.

This thing has changed the way I approach nearly ALL my shooting.

Foley (always capitalize 'Foley" because it's from his name. Otherwise the audio engineers send old gross fruitcakes to your house.)

Foley is a NIGHTMARE to try to do with pre-recorded sound effects.
Sure - it's completely possible - but it takes a horribly long time to do as compared to just grabbing a mic and doing the Foley yourself. And it's tedious. VERY tedious. And no matter how big your collection is - 95% of it won't work for whatever that project in front of you today is.

Get a book on the art of Foley, and then invest in enough junk to do it yourself. WAY easier and actually FUN.

Are you using external audio? If so, a GX7 might work well for you. Better low light and DR than the GH2, and the articulating viewfinder is surprisingly nice for tripod/monopod work. It's not as sharp, though, and lacks mic and headphone jacks.

Otherwise, I'll second Stewart and steer you toward the GH2. Great image with the hack (Sanity is nice if you don't want the Moon file sizes) and a proven production workhorse. Plus, the multi-aspect sensor means you get a 1.3x crop with the speed booster! Pretty nifty.

Oh yeah - the Hacked GH2 with MOON T-7!
Still blows me AWAY at how detailed an image it gives. POW! Shoot it like everyone else does - with the SMOOTH profile and everything set to -2.
Then boost your saturation and balance out your contrast in post and it's pretty amazing.
The only reason I don't use them more often is because I can get the higher dynamic range with my Blackmagic cameras. (That cost a lot more!)

Yeah - Add a cheap Mitakon Nikon-to-MFT Version 2 speedbooster and it's ready to really rock! Beats my 2 canon T2i by an enormous amount. Not just a little.

P.S. Make sure you get that speedbooster - it makes THAT MUCH difference. Simply monster.

    Oh - my camera list:
GH2 (x2), Canon T2i, Canon 6D, Sony RX100 mkii, Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (x3), Samsung NX1.

This is a bunch of basic information about affordable camera support gear.
A lot of people who are new to all this Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera stuff (or DSLR sized cameras), and folks who don't have much money to spend have been asking me about all this lately. I don't have a lot of time to do gear reviews, so I decided to try to cram as much information as I could into this one video hoping to answer as many questions as I can all in one place.
    Items covered in this video:
    BMPCC Cages
    Rail Systems
    Shoulder Rigs
    External Batteries
    Follow Focus Devices
    Matte Boxes
    Cats and Dogs Living Together
    Tripods
    Jibs
    Gimbal
    Carry Case
*Note: The "one size fits all" cage I show here costs $149. I forgot to mention that.

    Movcam BMPCC Cage  - $323
    Fotga Follow Focus - $170
Follow Focus Speed Crank - $13
Giottos Quick Release Adapter - $38

This guy is a wedding videographer in the countryside in South Korea. He has some interesting tests like this one:
It's off topic but I'm in Korea and was watching his videos, so I was pleasantly surprised to suddenly see his video here.

Still my favourite is the 5D Mark II especially as it is now so affordable used (£650)
Even without the Mosaic AA filter it's a beauty of an image and every bit as good as the 5D Mark III, if not actually even a bit more 'characterful' and less 'clean'!
There's no need to even consider anything newer, they're all far worse... although the 70D with dual pixel AF is quite a lot of fun with raw.
Problem is, the image isn't nearly as good as the 5D Mark II from all those years ago.
80D won't be getting raw any time soon I don't think.
ML probably have moved on a bit to be honest.
Canon had their chance to nurture something great... didn't...

The only canon camera before the 80d that was able to do 1080p 60fps was the 7d mark ii. i think they had trouble cracking it and it was to much trouble to be worth it.
Very true but im not gonna lie, the 5d mark iii raw is stil my favorite digital image out there under 15k.

I got my first message from Vimeo, whilst watching a video at 1080p, saying that is should change the quality.
Never had a problem before (even after they implemented their new system) & now they seem to have crippled the playback even more!
So they seem to have been taking even more steps backwards.
I wonder if this is because I cancelled my auto payment? Hmmm, makes you wonder...

You have to be joking even testing for a bandwidth issue if that is your connection.  That upload destroyes about 99% of peoples download.  You could probably live-stream 8k with that connection.  Its like a member of a swat team walking down the street saying "well I dont see any muggers".
Basically the data rate of a vimeo HD video is about 4.8 megabit per second.  If your connection is always above that you will never see this issue.
Lets say your downstream is only half that, you would clearly need to stop the video and let half of the video buffer.  The maximum buffer is now only 20 seconds, so anyone with a connection slower than 2.4 meg will not be able to watch from beggining to end a HD video that is longer than 40 seconds.
If yout connection is 3/4ths of 4.8 you will need to buffer a quarter of the video, which means anyone with a 3.6 meg connection will not be able to watch from beggining to end a HD video that is longer than 1 minutes 20 seconds.
Trust me, speeds this low are not uncommon at all. many rural exchanges in the UK are limited to 2 meg.

I have been shooting on BMPCC for years and have had some great experiences with the Digital Bolex. Sure its a really odd camera but there is some sort of mojo about it that can't be explained. Its got that Kodak CCD that is truly unique. I shot a shot film on it using their own Kish lenses and REALLY enjoyed the process.

Man, its the same sensor as the Ikonoskop A-Cam DII?!
How did that pass me buy? Because that was one of the images that i really loved, coupled with the shape of its body. It just seemed to be the perfect camera for just picking up & shooting with - no rigging or evf/monitor needed! Such as shame it got discontinued - now if BM or someone does a camera with that form factor again, I'd jump...

    I did.
    Love it.
Tool less. 1.6KG max payload. $699 from the main importer Owl Dolly.
The dual-weight programability is lovely. So I can go from a really light Pocket with a Voightlander 20mm pancake to a 5D or NX1 with something like the Samyang 16mm or 24mm on it.
Essentially it duplicates the 3 basic modes but comes with, and allows changing of, the motor strengths for the two groups. This is critical if you're going to attempt to use more than one camera on it...ever.

    1. - Spike Lee is an astounding film maker.

    2. - That Digital Bolex is amazeballs. I have seen people put up footage where the people's skin not only looked incredibly natural, but the realism of the skin tones was so great that it looked like the subject was a little person living for real right there in my monitor. Like I could just reach over and touch their face. I have never seen that out of any other camera. It's UNCANNY.

Yes, it IS a cameras that requires one to learn some pretty specific methodologies, but I think the results are worth it.
Just rip the stupid handle off the bottom as soon as you get it. You don't want to be Zachary Zapruder.

Now, I'm not saying you're wrong... I just happen to know that you're wrong.
I'm also totally NOT saying that a couple hundred finished URSA Mini 4.6k's are ready to go out to the earliest pre-orders.
I'm not saying BMD isn't always late with their new models - I'm just saying they all have eventually been delivered.

Quite spot-on description for image quality!
I always try to make my 'rigs' Super 8 - like. GH2:

The DB lacks a big fat eyepiece for three-point-stabilization. That's all. Anyway, the best design had the original bolex:

Hard to believe, but there hadn't been lots of shaky, er, clips at that time ...
