    I've had a UM4.6K for nearly a year.
It's done many weeks of work on my sets.  Most of the images in my twitter feed are of the same body, the very first one I got.  I've had another two PL bodies for about 7 months that have also seen a lot of use.
The camera can handle on set abuse.  My main body has lots of scuff marks, scratches and dings.  It's been rigged on a steadicam, Movi, to cars, in my hands, in production mode, in studio and remote locations. It's had extra transmitters, timecode clocks, plugged in, audio connections used, additional on board monitors, UMC's for remote focus....
There are many many sequences now in the last two TV drama series I shot that have Ursa Mini 4.6K shots and no one ever picks them.
I managed to rip one helicoil out early on when an overzealous grip overtightened a rig.
I lost a lock off screw that controls the tension on the EVF rotation.  I've never replaced it, because the tension hasn't needed to be changed !
My cameras boot up, they don't overheat, they don't loose frames, my shots have passed a zillion INTERNATIONAL broadcast tech checks that specifically go looking for things like noise and FPN and image problems.
Directors love the shots I can only get with an Ursa Mini 4.6K, so I'm going to keep using it.

Can you buy the same sensor that is in the Ursa Mini 4.6K off the shelf and get the same result ?  No.  You can't.
Is it an off the shelf sensor ?  No it isn't.
Do you keep saying it is ?  Yes you do.
    Do you say stuff like
"I think it has something to do with the fact that they source parts and do not manufacture their own circuits and sensors as with RED and the electronics conglomerates"
That's your quote...you forgot that you said RED as well didn't you ? :-) Never mind....
So, you're wrong because RED don't do what you claim. Blackmagic DO make their own circuits and like RED, go to a sensor fab company and customise a sensor to their own specs that you can't buy.  So do Arri for that matter.
So how would you KNOW ?  Seriously ?  How do you know that it's off the shelf ?  If it's only slightly modified, what does that ACTUALLY mean ? Is it the package size ? What EXACTLY is the benchmark for a slight modification ? What is it that was tweaked ? Was it one thing or many ? Did they just put the BM logo on it ?  What other products use the same sensor ? Why doesn't someone else buy the same sensor and make a better camera ?
I call you out because I've called you out before sir and I'm just cutting to the chase.  You're wrong.
Have an opinion.  Don't post it as fact when you don't know if it's true.  That's all I'm asking.

Thanks for your input Geoff. Very good points.
I honestly am the guy to buy the camera without renting it first but I do realize that it's not the smartest thing to do. So I think for the first time I will rent first and buy later.
I actually have used the ursa mini 4K before and was not happy with the image or DR, but I hear the 4.6k is way better so I'll probably rent that too.
The amount of the features the fs5 has is what draws me but the image of the 4.6k is what draws me. So I feel so torn right now but that's why I'll rent first. So borrowlens.com here I come! Lol
i will probably be doing a video on my tests of both cameras and make a video on why I chose which camera.
I'll post the video for the 2 people interested  in my dilemma on this thread LOL.

Always test a camera yourself. A lot of people dislike the Sony look. But that's also because the Sony cameras have such a array of options to create your own look, canon has the fast turn around. With Sony you have to develop your own workflow. I personally love it, enjoy the look that I've created on my A7r II.
4.6K Fantastic if your shooting a movie at 800 iso. Incredible image with wide DR. However, 1600 is near unusable and it has no ND filters. It is not an event camera. Also you need a lot of light to use the Slow motion option on that camera.
I would rent a FS5 for a weekend and see what you think.

And as far as the FS5 goes I think it's a great camera. Sony has all of the features a video guy wants but there's something that keeps bringing me back to canon. I think it's the look and the colors and canons menu system.
ive personally owned many cameras. I've owned, the original c100, BMCC, BMPCC, canon 5D II&III, Sony A7s, Sony F35, ursa mini 4K, and they are all great cameras but with all of my experience with these cameras I choose canon becasue of the colors and ease of use(you can't beat the F35's look though. I just wish it was smaller).
I rented an FS7 once and, while it had a great image, the menu system was horrible. I didn't even know how to change the ISO with some picture profiles that I used. While some might enjoy the complicate Sony menu, I don't. I don't have time for that. I need to be able pick up my camera and shoot. Canon wins for me on that end, but Sony might win for someone else.
I do definitely think Sonys winning on the innovative side of things.

Agreed! But wait... Micro turned out to be a little too cumbersome?
There's still the issue with the battery life, but I do love that everything is well contained within the little device. I had the famous Kiev-16U triplets (MIR-11M 12.5mm, VEGA 7-1 20mm & TAIR-41M 50mm f/2 lenses) sent to me a little while back. Man, they were tiny, I imagined them way chunkier for some reason. Still awaiting the adapter. Not shooting my BMPCCs much these days, in favor of the easy going Panasonics, but I figured that new set might change things up! Read more here: http://www.vintagelensesforvideo.com/kiev-16u-lenses/  , and maybe get yourself some as well. We're talking C100mkII... FS5... etc. Or frankensteining the Micro... but it's lovely to scale things down to silly basics sometimes, isnt it?

I think it is more like 10% Sony (but that greater complexity largely comes from them packing in so many features... you wouldn't have that problem if they did less! But  you wouldn't want that) & 90% a meme created by Canon shooters.

Anecdotal, but when I picked up the RX10MK2 after about 8 years of shooting Canon & Blackmagic, the first thing my colleague said was "Sony, eh? Have fun with the menus".
It's not just a Canon shooter thing, Sony's menus and ergonomics in general simply leave a lot to be desired.

An FS5 will get him work too, as B cam to FS7/F5/F55 jobs, and A cam for lots of similar jobs you'd do with C100.
Plus the FS5 has a level of diverse versatility that the C100 can not come close to matching with 4K option, raw recording, and slow motion.
He has only a very small selection of lenses, thus luckily he has no (or only very low) lock in to the Canon ecosystem, and he can keep using them with an FS5.
As for color, just apply LC709a. Easy, now you're sorted for low budget / quick turn around jobs. For higher end coloring you can go with raw. While the C100 can't even do 10bit!

With all due respect, I couldn't disagree with you more here. Chances are Omar was doing very little color work with his Canons and since he uses them and his lenses for paid gigs, why would he want to switch to a whole new camera system, at FS5 money? The C100ii is a good upgrade that will get him work and get him to the next level of color and equipment.

Definitely C100mkII, and spend wisely the rest of the money for sound, and you are good to go out there and make some money!
60D and SL1 are just way inferior, you will be excited using the mkII, you can get a cheap 18-135 STM that is my run and gun choice, and having already the Tokina, the 50mm and the 24-70 you can have better quality from quite wide to tele-ish range, if the 18-135 doesn't cut it, but for corporate, or live, it does the job most of the time.
Probably you have some money left to get the new M after a couple of jobs (and when the price comes down a bit) to have it as a second camera, or backup, and/or photographic one.

Actually, only STM lenses work with Canon's face tracking DPAF mode. You may want to pick up a cheap secondhand one for gimbal/dolly/run and gun stuff.
