  1. Couldn't agree more, I still reckon the lateral ball follow in golf is one of the hardest shots in television to pull off properly. Top notch freelance cameramen in sport are always in high demand.
  2. Hi Vesku, I'm not saying you shouldn't use auto exposure for your nature videos, and you could probably teach a lot of people the finer points of auto exposure. But Mark Williams shots some great nature videos on the GH4 and never uses auto exposure. https://vimeo.com/channels/3523
  3. Hey Jason I think you've addressed most of the shortcomings in your discription of the video. I'd recut it up to the music with short sharp grabs from everywhere, and take all the panning out. At 1.32 you could go superquick with the music. For motivation just pretend its for a Sports Show on television, and this vision is being used as they go out to a break. Bigfoots suggestion of a log/Lut look, and pushing the saturation would give that look that's become standard with Television Station promos these days and helps to cover up as well. Try get the 6 minutes down to about 1.30 and you might surprise yourself. Good luck next Thursday.
  4. Nice.. I see you used the Leeming Lut. Well done!
  5. I discovered a few months ago that sometimes You Tube don't actually take the videos down if copyright content has been included in the video. What happens is you can't view the video on certain devices such as phones, tablets, set tops, etc...but you can view them on PC, lap top, or similar. I sometimes use You Tube's music library which has improved a little bit
  6. I think most people on this site would have similar experiences with their familie's viewing preferances. I downloaded an episode of Boardwalk Empire from You Tube and it ended up being 480p. So I ran it from my laptop into the plasma TV. I asked my wife what she thought of the quality and she said it was great, just as good as the dvd's we'd watched the other episodes on. I've got to admit that I was a bit surprised just how good 480p can look.
  7. I would have thought that you'd need a whole production crew, and a rather large budget to create something similar to the link you provided.
  8. I won't derail this thread anymore but how are the Ursa Minis performing, and secondly does Lisa McCune still pin her ears back with double sided tape ? Worked with her for a long time on Blue Heelers and she copped a lot of stirring over it. Cheers.
  9. I live in Melbourne so I'll apologise for the weather...thought you might be shooting The Warriors, I'm looking forward to watching it. John Howard must be laughing to himself having been a young recruited player in The Club, to a team official in The Warriors. Hope it's all coming together.
  10. Hi JB, just wondering what series you're working on at the moment ?
  11. 24 fps, 100/200 iso, 50 shutter speed, (sometimes 100 for slow motion only) because I mainly shot surfing in very sunny conditions I don't want shallow depth of field but I have 2 stops ND to keep the aperture where I need it. And a couple of LED lights for interiors.
  12. When I was a Stagehand/camera assistant, we had to carry Ikagamis around golf courses for cameramen for 3-4 days at a time, (couldn't get into floor managing quick enough)... I'm actually getting a sore back remembering them !!
  13. On a more light hearted note, I just listened to an old piece that Frank Zappa wrote 51 years ago. It's called Troble every day, and it's from his debut albulm named Freak Out. Some years later he also cut a track called I am the slime (forget which albulm that's from) anyway I reckon both tracks are so relevant to today's media they could have been written yesterday. On an even more light hearted I'll let Billy Connolly say a few words
  14. Given enough time he may very well suffer gunshot wounds to both feet.
  15. I'm curious to know if the threat of Gun Control would have won Trump many votes. I'd like a $50 note for every time the media in my part of the world replayed the vision of Trump saying "She'll take your guns away from you". But at the same time I wasn't certain what Clinton's policy was on gun control.
  16. Hi Axel, hope you don't mind me asking, but are you the same person who had an eye piece adapted for a GH2 some years ago. I've attached a photo which I think was yours? I'm searching high and low for one but not having any luck at all. Regards Stanley

      Hi Stanley,

this was an eyepiece from a Super 8 camera I bought from Ebay for 1 €. I had a better solution later:

This is a Zacuto Z-finder replacement eyepiece that cost 16 €. I made a holder for the hotshoe from aluminum:

      Hope that helps. Best wishes,

      Axel

Yes, that helps a lot. Thanks for the ideas. Cheers.

  17. Composure, Exposure,Shutter Speed, White balance.
  18. And I can't see Vitaliy fulfilling that wish. I noticed the other day he was advising someone on PV to not consider a gh1 or gh2 because of AVCHD and MTS files. Just in case a G7 PAL version at that price comes our way, I'm curious to find out if there is an aftermarket eye piece for it. I know there is for GH3 and GH4, and it is a must have for my next camera.
  19. Great value indeed, would buy in a heartbeat if I could get a PAL version at that price. But thanks for posting it.
  20. @Ki Rin....You may also find this interesting. I've only been an observer to the elections in the USA as I live on the other side of the world (Same place John Pilger comes from actually) so I have been at the mercy of our media telling us what they want us to see and hear. Maybe for the first time ever Australia has led the way with regards to the way people are starting vote, and wanting to see the newly elected replaced soon after they have come to power. If this happens in the States, we will see the slow demise of the major parties, and the rise of independents and smaller parties holding the balance of power and blocking legislation if it doesn't suit their agenda. Anyway, I find Pilger always worth listening to regardless of if people agree with him or not http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/10/28/inside-the-invisible-government-war-propaganda-clinton-trump/
  21. Thought some people might be interested in having a look at this link where John Seale talks about not using a script, but working with 3,500 story boards to shoot Mad Max Fury Road. I know it's extreme, but interesting all the same. http://nofilmschool.com/2015/11/in-depth-look-cinematography-mad-max-fury-road-john-seale
  22. Nice handheld work. What did you use to brace/stabilise some of your shots? Thought the music was good too.
  23. I have a matte Box but much prefer using just a filter holder. I've made a hood for it if needed. Having a Matte Box in windy conditions is a nightmare for me.
  24. Apart from being well shot and scripted, I thought the music was great also. I'm a Hornby Dublo 3 rail enthusiast so I'm a bit biased when it comes to this sought of stuff. I'm guessing the train set is HO scale? Well done.
