That's what I was thinking - about an 8:1 compression. Whatever this compression ratio is, I'd LOVE it if they brought it to 4k in the the C300 III, C200, and any other future 4k raw cameras. 8:1 is sort of the sweet spot for quality and file sizes. For 4k, that would probably be closer o 400-600mbps, which is the same or a bit more than All-I.

This is truly surprising as the compression ratio is more than any C camera from Canon. 8k RAW at 1.3 Gbits/s is very very good is basically in the same ballpark as 8:1 RED 8k RAW

Well, I follow your POV but let's not forget going with 5X the 24p rate, we have 376Mbps as 'regular' speed equivalent, so it's not that bad detail-wise also in order to avoid any potential introduction of nasty artifacts along your footage ; )
Without mention, you can always recode it : )
I'd firmly suggest this one, though:

Please don't derail the discussion. This is zero connected with yours. If I have 8K recording, I want to finish my master in the same resolution. This is nothing about delivery. Your battles don't fit.
Future proof can mean one or a couple of decades later. To each his own.

But, at what price? My budget is $1000-$2000...
Resolve, I believe the most recommended today perhaps.
Is the use of Proxies too much of a hassle?

    Thank you.

I understand you want to express your idea. Where you're going.
People are not formatted. You like your way. You use your 4k camera. Other people record 8k. For different reasons, not yours. It's useless to tell other people to do what we want to do. The world will not change because of your beliefs. Also useless because 8k doesn't cost thousands and thousands of dollars right now. We aren't all trying to follow hollywood. Lots of filmmakers in the world, you're just one of them.

You talk from your angle. Return. Business. There isn't one type of filmmaker. Your motivation is not mine. Your clients are not mine. Your product isn't mine. Etc, etc, etc. There are smartphones recording 8k right now. Your clients aren't expecting you will deliver to them in 8k. That part we both understand. The part that you don't understand is that your liking, your needs aren't mine. Vice versa. I am recording 8k right now. I want to have my masters in 8k. Again: your reasons aren't mine. I am not expecting they are. I imagine you too.

Yes, it is. Multi-million dollar Hollywood films don't need it. Different production values. Different gear. Etc. We cannot compare their cameras with ours. Our 1080p is far away of theirs. Our 8K is a way to improve our production value. Different targets too. We can shoot 8K today, why to end with a master below than that!?? Why not take advantage of a future proof?

That makes sense, most of my work is fast turnaround time sensitive footage like events, music videos, fashion shows, modeling videos, virtual tours, seasonal videos, small business promo video work, etc.  I'm known for fast turnarounds which helps me stand out in my area. I love shooting all day then finishing the edit that night while the experience and events of the day are still fresh on my mind. I typically shoot the full day's event or project, edit all night until I complete the rough edit (usually around 4AM the next morning), sleep for a few hours, then do the color grading, titles, fix the rough edges, etc.  There is no way I could do that waiting for proxies for every clip.

I definitely think its incredible how far PCs have come in such a short period of time and proxies let you use just about anything and still get editable footage, especially when it starts out highly compressed like H.264 and H.265.

I have read Canon's h265 4:2:2 is even harder than h265 4:2:0... but there are people still complaining with modern processors:

    In doubt what's the best?
    A Hexa-core i7-9750H or Xeon E-2276M with the Quadro RTX 5000 16GB VRAM?
    Or Octa-core i7-10875H with a RTX 2080 Max-Q 8GB VRAM?
Or yet the Octa-Core Ryzen 7 3700X but with the RTX 2070 8GB VRAM?

LOL Indeed, there's not a single answer to take : )
Getting a machine for editing/grading/post-production depends a lot on software optimization and distinct parts of the hardware resources required to handle much different tasks :- )
Some of them work just fine and... anyhow awkwardly some under circumstances too, in fact.

I am now buying a couple of units of the ASUS Zenfone 7 Pro for 3D UHD capture at 120fps... go figure!
ASUS staff can only think I am crazy (I guess they actually do!) and my partner in crime who has already worked as Peter Greenaway stereographer in the past, other than supervising Godard's stuff, as for instance, is puzzled with my decision, so... What can I tell you more sideways? ; )

Those guys on that YT channel up there look like to know their job fairly enough (as well, the fella Max), I find their views honestly interesting on topic BTW:

That exactly mimic my experience, 8K runs smooth on high end Ryzen (if you got 12 or more cores), at least i can do jobs now without pulling my hair out or wait 2 years later.

My ryzen 3700x does not do well with playback on H265 Long GOP 4k. I need a GPU upgrade but I don’t know how much that would help. Honestly debating whether to tell my friend who wants me to build him a $1200 editing PC that he might be better off with an M1

Those are the same h.265 4k60p videos they used on previous video, where the 10 core intel mac just poop when try to play back but both ryzen n m1 playback smoothly.

That pc he build a month ago is gonna be 20~100% slower when this build is done (waiting for PC case atm) 😁, can't believe a month can make huge difference.
