The 16-50 S is a 2-2.8f lens, the fastest standard zoom in its category, ever. It is like you have a 16-23 2f zoom lens, which covers the 24mm, 28mm 32mm and 35mm prime lenses with 2f. Not bad at all.. Then you can go the rest of the range with 2.8f, not bad at all, either, just not that unique.

As I understand the Samsung cameras are extremely sought after right now including their hardware that is why prices keep rising, because they are becoming rarer and rarer and its mostly because of this forum right now and the great guys behind the bitrate hack and Luca's adapter and work in progress smart adapter.
Not to mention Samsung NX1 and NX500 imao are still amazing cameras and they are cheap well used to be anyway. Its a good sign because now that dirty "&()!"%)¤ acting president of Samsung aka Son of Samsung's actual president, is in jail and that means there will be a brighter future for Samsung now that the corrupt bastards are removed.

    You say:

This sounds really exciting...Remarkable capabilities, because there is NOT something comparable on the market. Two questions on this claim:
Does this mean, if you touch your NX display for getting focus during video/still shooting (="touch focus" feature of the NX system), even a Samyang lens would be able to auto focus on the point you touched to? Will your adapter have an EF mount to adapt lenses or some other mount? When reading your statement above, I believe (when assuming that the adapter would have all the capabilities you described in this forum) this will be one of the most exciting/revolutionary adapters on the market, tranforming the NX1 in an "universal AF-lens camera". This would be for sure an unique feature from AF point of view...
Unfortunately we all have to wait ( as you say, about 2 months) for the completion of the project. I am very curious about AF speed and accuracy of your EF-2-NX-AF-adapter, when used with different EF lenses...Keep on your good work and innovative spirit...(But try to not react that irritated, when people ask different questions or reveal their thoughts...They want simply to evaluate and discuss as many aspects as possible...)

I read somewhere that the NX mount is based on K-mount since Samsung used to partner with Pentax and a lot of their earlier cameras were cheaper Pentax knock offs down to the sensor.
Samsung apparently had a prototype of the K-mount that supposedly had Autofocus etc here is a picture of it.

Is it not easier to adapt the Pentax K-mount to the NX with autofocus?? I know majority wants Canon but lets face it, autofocus might not be the greatest on it if any at all.
and at the end of the day Pentax is still in the business making cameras and lenses, Samsung is not.

Well, I'm surprised for your words, to say the least. I'm using nx since 2011. I have several nx bodies, almost all nx lenses. I really like nx, more than canon, Nikon, sony and even pentax.

Having different ideas is not bad, unless you are a dictator. And this is a free place. If my posts annoy you, you can ignore them.
I think the idea you have for this adapter doesn't fit MY NEEDS. It could work for others. I can well underline the weaknesses of a project, as well as the good parts.

I guess that ttbak has similar needs as mine, we'll see what he thinks about your idea.
Could you tell me one positive side of your approach, compared to a d5500+one of those lenses? I see only negative sides, apart for the technical "game".

As this adapter is NOT a mass product, it's completely clear, that it will be much more expensive than (feature wise) comparable mass products. Personally I still believe, 650 EURO should be the maximum of pricing, beyond that it will be quite hard to get it sold - even for NX enthusiasts. But this is only a personal point of view and feeling.
You should consider, that this talk is only theory till this moment, because the price also depends on:
how fast and accurate does AF work in stills with your adapter (comparable with Samsung native lenses) how fast and accurate does AF work in video with your adapter (comparable with Samsung native lenses) A good level of comparison is - in my eyes - the Metabones EF to E-Mount adapter (Metabones) or the MC-11, that works really well in Video-AF with Sigma lenses.
You should also consider, the Samsung 16-50mm f2-2.8 OIS (can be bought at about 1.000 Euros these days) and the Samsung 50-150mm f2.8 ED OIS (can be bought at about 1.300 EURO these days) are very good video lenses with fast and accurate AF and OIS and cover the demands of almost all NX owners, who need AF. Most serious / ambitionned / enthusiastic NX filmers own the Samsung 16-50mm f2-2.8 OIS, so an adapter costing over 650,- Euro will probably be too overpriced for a majority of NX-users, so most of them will prefer to manually focus with an affordable EF to NX adapter....Always consider, the NX1 / NX500 are "dead cams" at the moment, so most possible customers will balance reasons to buy or not to buy such an expensive adapter for the dead NX system...
I know, this is the crucial dilemma of every possible manunfacturer of such an adapter: Will they get enough customers to buy such a device in regard to the fact, that this adapter will probably never be a mass product for price X?
As I told you, I will buy the adapter even for 600 EURO, probably also for about 650 Euro. If I would pay more than that, depends on the points I mentionned above...(AF speed and accuracy compared to another camera/adapter systems like Sony EF to E Metabones Mark IV adapter...)...probably not. 650 Euro would be a production price (R&D, testing, buying and assembling parts) hard to achieve from a manufacturer's POV, but it's a bunch of money for every potential customer - considering that Samsung retired from digital camera business...
Another fact to be considered is, the GH5 is released - a modern device with a bunch of lens options and manufacturer support for the next years. So...I believe (my personal believe) many former NX users will probably sell their gear and move to Panasonic or wait for an A7R III / A9 / A7S III...Technology moves on and there is a "point of no return" for almost every NX enthusiast...Just my 2 cents...
For sure, there will still be many NX enthusiasts out there, but the question (from YOUR POV) is: How many, and how much money will they spend on such an adapter?

There are plenty of websites were you can order cheap custom PCB you designed yourself.
I can only do very basic PCB designs, but there must be someone here who can do more complicated stuff, or even fund someone to do it for you that would be a possibility.

Of course I totally agree with you. A company like metabones can not only "capitalize" on its past experience, but also on the low cost of manufacturing in their country and the existing (or potential) users base for their products.
But, again, the 10k should more or less fill this gap and set you in a competitive position (hence the price figures I gave), especially considering that you are talented and are (this is very crucial) a NX fan. Let's face it: I think that nobody else could start such a project, since you would ever earn from it

@Emanuel it is ironic that you try to convince anyone that a6300/a6500 are belonging "..in the professional camp."
As a professional, that I earn my family's bread with my cameras, I would take the shitty GH5 iso quality anytime, to the "Sony-only-on-the-spec-sheet champ".
Actually I choose to stay with NX, a dead system, instead of the latest APS-C Sonys, because it is more reliable, have exactly the lenses I need in my line of work in APS-C, better ergonomics, lower battery consumption, no overheating etc etc, and I have worked a few times with the a6300 at 2016, and never had to go to 6400 by the way.
It is good as a 3rd camera, and one of my business partners can give it to me whenever I ask, but he seriously thinking to go full m4/3, as his primary camera STILL is the GH4.

I totally agree, Kisaha, I didn't mean to undercut Luca's awesome work. He is actually a great fan and supporter of NX system and with his speedbooster he gave new life to NX1 for those not needing AF. It's actually because I trust his work, that I made that "bulleted list". I'm sure he can accomplish most of those points.
The size, TO ME, is a big plus. I actually went mirrorless for the size in the first place. Now, if you tell me that the size of metabones is impossible to achieve, I could buy the adapter anyway, if it does all the rest, but it hasn't to be too big (the Canon that you mention is actually on the big side, IMO).
As to ttbek, I also think he should set some marks for his "reward", and the questions fired by Luca are very interesting. I mean...perhaps, with those funds Luca at his disposal NOW, he could do the real thing, while he couldn't do it without them.

To be honest guys, @lucabutera has done (hardware wise) the most any other have since the beggining of the system, even Metabones LIED, telling us that it is not possible, and then had to re-phrase talking about business models and the such.
@Marco Tecno, your list is quite big! Even though I agree with most of your list, I am not anxious to see something same size as the Metabones (why? it can be bigger, if it does the job). Have you seen the piezo electric thingy for Canon lenses? Even Canon had to build a whole box under the lens, to accommodate their pz adaptor, why not Luca, just one person on a mission? I mean, everything is general and we have to support Luca, and eventually he is going there, the guy has some serious engineering skills!
@ttbek is a great NX user, no question about it, but where money are involved, there is always opportunity for misunderstandings, it would be wise to just declare what he wants to see for his 10.000 (or 5 or 2 or 1 or whatever), so people understand and maybe try to that direction.
TechartPro is an interesting concept, but it is something different than an active EF(-S) adapter. You did the speedbooster, that works, and people using it right now, now it is better for an active EF adapter, with AF, OIS and aperture control, and then, why not, a legacy lenses AF adapter, I have more than a couple of dozen lenses I could use.

I rather have true camera to lens connection than having to remote control this, its pretty safe to say that a good majority of us actually uses the autofocus in video quite a lot, because its superb and hits the target more often than not.
If this was translated to a Canon mount, imao it be gold worth, its too much work going around with a steady cam and a remote controller just to get focus all the time, good for big video production but not so much for us who just have the camera with nothing else, run and gun style.

I agree about the Aputure solution. As I wrote in older posts, this solution does not solve my issues as well. What I'd need is a real AF (autofocus) for Canon lenses, so that I can use it for the longer tele lenses (missing for NX). Any other solution will be, for me, useless.

I'm still confident that Luca can do the "real thing", sooner or later i.e.: an adapter converting the samsung protocol to Canon, and drive Canon lenses as if they were native NX ones. I'm only "afraid" that the required time and cost for this item are too high (making it more convenient to buy a "cheap" canikon body to use just for those lenses). I hope that the (very kind) 10k offer from ttbek could make the price more convenient for future buyers of the intelligent adapter if/when it comes.

I don't really believe Nikon is going to survive. They have most of their assets in Photography, even their Steppers are mostly camera output related. DSLRs are nearly dinosours in this day and age. And that is the majority of their supply. And they are not burning up the market with great video specs either. Video is THE thing now and they suck ass in it.
And this is their 100th Anniversity year and they have no money, great! What they bring out this year, new D810, new D750 both DSLRs, are hard to predict. They had better be the best thing since sliced bread, or might as well not even bother.
I would sure hate to see them go, but they will I think, along with Pentax. Two of the first camera brands I ever owned a LONG time ago, over 50 years. Smartphones are killing all of them off. But amazing what power we have in our pockets now, just Amazing.

Nikon is very tough because of their legacy and dSLR sales, which -even though a lot of us consider them relics of the past- still sell more than mirrorless cameras, and I take a D750 everyday for pro photo work instead of any mirrorless Sony, and most of my pro photo friends did actually.
If they don't make a bold mirrorless move soon though, then they will be left behind and Sony will eat up their sales quite soon and quite a bit, especially with the A7 mark III series of camera that supposed to be imminent. If Sony screw up once more (pro ergonomics, power capacity, heat management) then Nikon gets a few more years, but they do not seem to have the Fuji reflexes, to adapt to the new hybrid age.
Best Nikon solution? Give everything they got for a NX1 Nikon. Take the best of the Samsung and the best of D500 and make a 2500€ camera with IBIS, I would buy that in an instance. Samsung has 15fps with a 28mgpxl sensor, and Nikon had to go to 20mpxls to compete with that, and still.. As of video, with a better H265 codec NX1 Nikon can be the best video camera together with the GH5. Add to all these no overheating, best touch screen implementation and wifi/bluetooth on the industry (while Nikon advertised it much but noy that good real world results), ergonomics, battery consumption, oled screens and brilliant EVF (I am sure after 3 years+ they can have a better one), Nikon lenses, colour science and a huge NIKON logo in front and you have an instant success.
The DL series didn't seem very competitive as it was, they need a better (more retro-modern design as well) compact line, better make it full frame, and they have to up their video game. Newer generations need exceptional video on a compact camera, and when I say newer gen, I mean everyone under 50!
m4/3 is everywhere, even in DJI, with a variable sensor a la LS300 (my opinion is that the GH5 with such a sensor would have been the best hybrid ever made) they can go to 2020 easily, but the small sensor right now has reached its limits (no big DR and ISO improvement from GH4 to GH5, if any) and having only 20mgpxls on this tiny sensor isn't the best cropping solution around.
Fuji listens, we like them, I expect them to produce the best APS-C camera soon, and they are going medium format, who needs full frame then?!! The quiting of Samsung save them a big chunck of their pie and a relief, as 3 years ago they were clearly far behind Samsung (and this was very well documentated in various interviews from back then) and they didn't have the tech and resources to compete.
Pentax and the rest, I do not know, unfortunately they aren't in my radar.
Canon is Canon, eventually they will produce a pro mirrorless that will sell 80% of the mirrorless sales of that year, and a C100markII that we all have to buy! If they make mistakes though, Sony can overcome them as well, but it will take a few camera generations, and Canon to fail completely to see the near future.
Everything is possible, I just would love to see this advanced Nikon FNX1!!

As others have already reported, the NX1 is really excellent for what you seem to need. Strange that you say that: "It's 2017, and still no affordable camera with nice 50/60p slowmo image", since NX1 (120fps@1080 with APSC full sensor readout) has been out since November, 2014, at a lauch price of about 1.500€. I bought it at the beginning of February, 2015 at 1.220€ shipped. Some months later (say end 2015) it was possible to buy it for barely more than 1000€.
There have been reports of some new NX1 bodies sold for 800€ or even less, new, in the months following the announce of it being discontinued. I'm still regretting I didn't buy a second one, by then.
I don't know your concept of "affordable", but to me NX1 was an outstanding deal since the very beginning, considering that even now it's vastly unmatched for under 3-4x its launch price.
