  1. Thanks for the pointers. As it happens, shortly after I posted this question I came across a X-E1 for £145 on ebay, so I ordered it. seems like a cheap way to see if I like the overall Fuji 'thang'. It has an EVF, which was the most important thing and the film simulation modes, which I'm interested to try. The online reviews for it all seem pretty impressed, overall. I've also ordered a dumb adapter for my lenses, which are all adapted to EF. So we'll see - I'm quite excited.
  2. I've seen a lot of praise on here for Fuji cameras. I need a compact mirrorless with an EVF (so I can use my classic primes) purely for stills photography. I can't afford to spend a lot and I've come across the Fujifilm X-E2s. Does anyone have any experience and opinions on this camera - purely for stills?
  3. Actually I've just watched this on my bigger monitor for the first time and I can definitely see some nasty jaggies that I guess must come from the poor way in which the BMDVA handles the output from the C100MK2, which is (crappily) interlaced. I'll have to redo this with the files from the card that was in the camera.
  4. So I've been back down to Philip Bloom's beach again (hah!) - this time with a tripod, BMDVA and Samyang primes at golden hour. Bloody windy, but a nice light. Hope you like it.
  5. Love it. And got caught up and watched Chatterhead and the Reese's thing. All great. What's that, the camera? Forgot about that about 3 seconds in - will go back and watch again. My boss hates you and I think I may get fired.
  6. I'm not in the industry, but I'd hazard a guess that if you're a TV station or an educational institution or any of many other types of organisation looking to buy 50 or 100 cams you'd always go Canon, Sony or Panasonic and avoid BMD like the plague (what? You buy 50 cams and have to send 25 back for replacement?). Likewise, if you're doing anything where serious money is involved at the kind of level at which this new camera is aimed you would (if you have any sense) go for the platform that offers robust, quality products for which replacements are available within 12 hours tops. BMD seem to make great cameras, with lovely imagery - but they're just nowhere near the QC and ubiquity of supply necessary when deadlines have to be met and crews standing around waiting for stuff can't be afforded.

    DJI SPARK

That's because whoever really cracks the selfie drone market is going to make GoPro levels of money (notwithstanding their recent travails).
  8. This is nice, but will be inferior to my new LUT, on which I am working - the Western Union LUT, which will make all footage look like the majestic 70mm footage from David Lean's classic Lawrence of Arabia. Payment will be accepted by my uncle, Karim, behind his cafe in Luxor.
  9. Deakins is declining to go into much detail until the film is released, but in every question ha has answered he has emphasised that the looks were achieved on set in the camera and that virtually no post manipulation was used. I can well believe this.
  10. The SDI output that can be utilised by the Flame is a 12 bit raw 4K/2K signal, so you're stuck with it, unfortunately. The only other option is a 8 bit 422 HD output from the HDMI. Question is - do you actually need the full HQ ProRes treatment? If your delivery medium is TV or web and you're not looking to incorporate VFX, you may well find that one of the less demanding ProRes flavours is entirely sufficient.
  11. That'll teach me to try to crack jokes on a camera forum.
  12. I want a speedbooster that will let me use PL lenses on my iPhone.
  13. My guess would be that this camera will be priced considerably above $3000.
  14. Eric Naso (who's had a look at the covered dummy/prototype at the show) reckons the lens has the red canon band and suggests it may be the 16-35 2.8L. http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/04/24/panasonic-teases-new-cine-camera-at-nab/
  15. This. It's quicker, easier and much more professional if - when you meet someone with whom you wish to develop a business relationship - you can hand them a neat, simple card with all of your contact details.
  16. An area of relevance to us lower mortals not using C300 mkiis is that (if it does indeed have the same provenance) the issue may well get cleared up on the XC10/15 as a side-benefit from pressure to fix being exerted on Canon by angry pros holding 5-figure cameras exhibiting ghosting like this.

    I'm Sorry

"If I offended anyone please accept my sincere apology." You didn't, but it takes a big man to post that. Peace and love.
  18. That may or not be a 'good thing', but I don't think it will happen to any great degree. Movie stars are movie stars and, no matter what you think of them individually, each have a 'something' that most people don't (and I probably include a few vloggers in roughly the same category). My point is that those very rare people will continue to command vast fees, which means that professional, talented, experienced production people will always be in demand - to be entirely sure that you'll get exactly the right stuff in the can in the amount of the talent's time you can pay for, you can afford those people more than you can afford to go auto-everything.
  19. Mt two-pennorth - I use computers all day, every day (I'm a software developer). My last 2 machines have been Macbook Pros because that's the environment they use on my current contract (when I bought the first one, at the Apple Store in Covent Garden, they guy found out it was my first Macbook and asked me, as we headed for the till, if I was excited! - heh). My previous contract was in a Linux-based shop so I carried on using my 15" stuffed-to-the-gills Dell XPS (which is still going strong for my wife) that I had bought at the beginning of the previous Linux/Windows contract. They're just machines. FCPX is my NLE of choice at the moment because that's what runs best on the machine I have. Hopefully (I bought my new Macbook late last year - don't like the look of the new ones) my next job will require a Windows machine as you can just get a lot more grunt for your money. If I move house and get the space I'll probably build my own desktop for video/photo work. I can't really get excited about either system. You buy what's best for the job you're doing and you learn to use it.
  20. Best explanation of organised Abrahamic religion I have ever seen! And the ones started by religion are really about the money too. The religion just helps to get people riled up and ready to kill.
  21. This camera has an annoying habit, if you use HFR, of maintaining the actual shutter speed, rather than the angle, so if you wind up to 60fps you have to re-adjust the angle back from 360 to 180 (if that's your bag - it is mine) and likewise, in reverse, when you return to your normal speed - so this is a great little update (and was much requested, I believe)
  22. http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/03/31/canon-firmware-updates-march-2017/ For me - C100 mkii shutter angle priority is a lovely little gift from Canon!
