  1. yea, just bring it in manually and sync it up to the start of the raw sequence. There might be a simpler way, but that is what I do also.
  2. re: 5) there should be a check box "import images as a sequence" or something like that.
  3. Your post to is about still imagery only. Of course you have posted more than me on your own forum. It doesn't mean what you post is right though. Canon stills are FAR from dying
  4. Classic case of misleading stats. They suit the Canon bashing mantra of this site though. So get shown, without much thought or research.
  5. This is all similar to music making apps. I have a few, they're great for fast creation, sharing ideas... Even creating full compositions. Certainly doesn't mean I want wifi and facebook on my piano though. I hope the current state of affairs just focuses the manufacturers to make even better pro tools.... If they don't, someone else will. I wont begrudge some way of moving files into the cloud or onto devices... But I would hate to see them turn DSLRs into wannabe smartphones just to attract the insta-generation. Maybe i'm just getting old
  6. I doubt Arri even care about RED, let alone Canon. The reason they announced it now is they simply don't need to make waves at NAB. The Mini will likely be the most rented camera ever. That's not to say the C300 mkII isn't happening though. It has to happen.... and I have a feeling it will be good.
  7. My experiences with JVC have been poor. I don't expect much from this one either. Nothing in the test footage has made me stand up and pay attention. Feels like the pursuit of 4K is bringing us right back to 2009 in terms of DR, rolling shutter, 8bit, 4:2:0 etc
  8. What kind of apps? If Nikon, Canon, Sony, Samsung etc etc all have their own OS, and all create bodge job apps that do a bit of instagram grading, that would push them ahead? No chance. That's without the UI nightmare of building a nice interface for a DSLR screen that works on each model. Imagine instagram on a BMPCC, haha. Their best bet is to just keep building pro tools. We are probably already due a "full circle" where the insta-hipsters will shoot on DSLR because iphone is so passé
  9. Battery use, cpu/ram use .... Would require a capable OS... Would require devs to create apps for yet another platform. They could reskin android, but very few get it right. Samsung are way ahead, in this respect, so they will be the most likely to bridge the gap.
  10. Bluetooth is about 2Mbitsps, fine for sharing small jpgs... But yea, depending on the image, wifi would be better, but brings about a HUGE battery drain.
  11. Wifi is a massive battery hog, switch it off your phone and you will get 20%-30% more battery time. We don't need it in cameras, not even consumer DSLRs.... Just bluetooth or something similarly low power. Tap over the occasional JPG, Raw or compressed video to phone. Let the phone do the grunt work with an OS perfectly suited for PROPER grading and sharing apps. The very last thing Canon or Nikon should be doing is trying to shoehorn mobile tech into a DSLR.
  12. If 4K, 10 bit and sensor stabilisation make it into the cheaper C300 II, then it would still be a winner.
  13. The paradox of your article is that you want them (Canon/Nikon) to be more like Apple/Google.... Yet who made instagram, who made facebook, who made pinterest? It is a bit rich to blame the Japanese companies for lacking foresight, while Apple and Google were also left scrambling, as startups stole their thunder (with image processing/sharing). There will be some cross over though, i'm sure Samsung will lead the way here. If I get an NX1, I will sure as hell be getting my dev to take a look at the API and see what we can do.
  14. It is smartphones AND apps... The two are symbiotic. The cameras on modern smart phones are great, the apps are great... I can shoot and edit raw images on my Nexus. As Mozim says though, this will help separate the two industries... Which I think is a good thing. Canon, Nikon etc can cater to people who care about lasting imagery, rather than shoot and share. You say "no wifi on high end",,,, it doesn't need it, it doesn't need grading apps, facebook sharing apps.... Just a very low battery consumption bluetooth, like the NX1 has. Send the raw to your phone.... Grade and share (while the raw file is uploaded to dropbox, for backup). Let the phone do what it does best. Simple.
  15. There are rumours that the C500 will go very high end, to compete with Alexa/Dragon/VariCam C300 will have to have 4K, 10 bit with some overcrank options... So I wouldn't worry too much about crippling, just yet. 4K slow motion and ergonomics will be the main separator
  16. Does it still have the same problem of only being able to dial in random shutter speeds (rather than just setting a degree), like the FS700? and only 3 preset ISOs without having to mess around?
  17. (Really) Long takes, I guess
  18. Really nice, I have dismissed this camera, in the past... But may have been too hasty. This looks really beautiful and, dare I say, organic.
  19. Can't wait to snap one of these up on eBay in 5 years
  20. I imagine you could get a used FS700/O7Q for about the same price. To me, a far superior camera... Better DR, better low light, Pro Res option, s35 240p (RED is windowed and incredibly noisy) You are also close to FS7 territory. Also, I have seen a few scarlet packages inching towards your price.
  21. On many specs, it outperforms the new Varicam. This is a kid's wishlist, i'm afraid. Would LOVE to be proved wrong though ;-)
  22. Sounds like someone's wishlist to me. With a speedbooster, it is just about the perfect camera, for me. If it is somehow true, at the price... I will buy 2 and never visit a camera tech site again.
  23. Price drop - £1700 Save around £800!
  24. The problem is playback... Look at the floppy disc, or the CD rom. You'd be hard pressed to find, say, a laptop that could load such things. Will USB, Sata etc exist in 10 years? What about 100 years. The cloud is probably the best bet, digitally... They are backed up over various servers. Of course, the service could go bankrupt, get hacked etc... The codec could become unplayable. Film has a simple playback method that can be built without the headaches of constant technological changes.
