  1. I'm pretty sure there was at least one reference and after all it's a Mad Max entry, so the nuclear thingie is quite evident. But I wouldn't overinterpret, either. It's just a vanity piece which I'm perfectly fine with, given the quality of the action and the atmosphere. I prefer that to pseudo-intellectual films like Inception that try too hard and lead nowhere. I mean, just watch the Making Of and it's pretty evident that Miller was sure he could get away with virtually anything because of the action and pacing. "We'll do it in post, never mind the bad 5D Mk II video, cheesy fake night sky whatever, screw the lighting" and so on. I doubt the mentality was different in terms of the story. Thing didn't even have a script. :p There is a Forbes article on the shortcomings of Fury Road which to me covers all the weaknesses. Still, I love the movie and honestly I don't see much of a chance for films like back then, where substance ruled over style. That era is over imho. Nowadays everything is about marketability and production value. http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2015/05/15/mad-max-review-5-reasons-why-road-warrior-is-better-than-fury-road/
  2. Great ride! Just returning from the theater. Saw it in 3D, but I'll probably rewatch in 2D for added detail and overview, think those things usually suffer from 3D. The flick is pretty stupid at times, but I can forgive that easily with the ingenious set design, mostly great pacing and the most stylish villain of like all times. This movie is so metal, I wanna go down just like that!
  3. Great summary, thanks man! And the last girl has to be the most beautiful I've ever seen. :D
  4. Thankfully enough discussions like these will never die. *cough*
  5. Game of Thrones criticism? Don't attack my religion!
  6. I can't edit my title there, just my birth date. Already checked a few times before, because I didn't like the title.

Who defines what is mediocre and what is not? I find most Hollywood productions mediocre and unbearable, yet they get made. There's a steady decline in people doing their own thing and not worrying about pleasing others, nowadays everything's about tailoring to certain target audiences. People just accept their "fate", forget about their dreams an feel miserable – way to go! If we have no more dreamers and visionaries, art is going to die and with it quite a few others things (which is already happening, if you ask me). There's nothing worse imo than going with the flow if it's against your very nature. Why try to earn more and more, so you can afford the newest gadgets (and ramble on about them endlessly on forums), car, house, whatever instead of trying to live with less and doing more of what you love? Teach kids some modesty and not that they have to be awesomerer and richerer than everyone else. Endless growth will kill you one day, you know? To reinforce it with Nietzsche: "Wer von seinem Tag nicht zwei Drittel für sich selbst hat, ist ein Sklave." (Whoever does not have two thirds of his day for himself, is a slave.) Sure, the realities in certain regions might be harsher than in others, but I'm quite sure that most of the people on here are at liberty to change something. If they so choose, that is. If you wanna race into oblivion, no prob, your call. Oh and don't forget to teach your children the same, you wouldn't want them to be failures who don't even own a BMW by the age of 30, would you?

Absolutely agree, Liam. It's horrible how the forums burst with self-proclaimed master critics who have to get their word out about almost everything. The movie is several years old, don't you think Matt would have noticed shortcomings by himself by now? I don't believe in criticism in general, I can answer questions about something critically when asked, but I doubt people can be taught anything. They have to see and want to change it for themselves. I liked the film as well, sure it has flaws, but it's highly personal and individualistic, not some shiny 'I'ma do it like da pros' shit. I could really relate. And I liked the chubby girls. Geekdom is on the decline, nowadays everyone is a nerd, if you know what I mean. I pity that. Kudos, Matt, don't get discouraged, just do your thing, you don't need any forum's approval for that.
  9. Maybe capitalism is dying and some people are expressing their losing touch?
  10. Definitely the swish pan thingie in example 1, just with more subtle settings .
  11. I'm not into doing it by the books, after the third watch I really liked my thing, so it's all good.
  12. That's the idea! Hate these conformist walks through the mall with candy soundtrack. Disconnection ftw. @Sekhar: that's just some cheesy Premiere panning effect.
  13. A stroll by the sea. Suffer – pardon – enjoy! http://vimeo.com/127320093 PS. After trying for 5 minutes I gave up on the endeavor to have the video embedded. Pretty frustrating btw
  14. There must be a way to express something more comprehensible to the less involved that isn't so highly accurate, but still does the trick, don't you think? Would really make sense nowadays, I believe. With the exploding megapixel counts of sensors and everything.
  15. If it's true, it's probably more likely they're going into the raw direction after working with the Magic Lantern folks. What an awesome and unique step that would be. We'll see.
  16. Got a used 60 inch Kuro last year and wouldn't switch it for anything but a same sized OLED. Colors are so natural.
  17. Happened to me by accident, but I'm kinda alarmed by the screeching noise it makes every now and then. Well, will have to wait it out. How about the red tint to the sides, you have any of that? Oh, and I don't wanna ruin your experience, sorry if that's your impression. I'm just a bit picky, especially if I pay a premium (it's still a consumer display, I guess).
  18. I have that one, told you about it in January or so. I find it sub-par. Try pushing gently on the panel around the edges. Didn't have an LG before, though. A friend who buys display technology professionally told me that LG has horrible service, that might have influenced me, too.
  19. I'm not so sure, if the young people nowadays can afford visions with all the time they need for telling others about things like parties, sex, drugs, food, school, gadgets, equal rights and domestic abuse. And when they do have time, they might be morbidly obsessed with 'having a great time' (whatever that is), so they can tell some more later.
  20. Still like the LG, but I wouldn't buy it again, LG seems kinda flakey to me. The panel isn't really firm in the housing, you can push it in and every now and then it makes a loud cracking sound, have never experienced anything like it before. Besides that I don't like the issues you have with 4K under Windows with a multi monitor setup (probably not LG-specific). Windows get resized all the time and the scaling gets fucked up regularly, too. Next time I will save up for an Eizo.
  21. Agreed. : ) Said that before in another thread: to me the only real stuff goes on in the head, no gadgetry needed.
  22. Shame on you for hijacking this thread! Down with everything even remotely humorous and long live the technocracy.
  23. Pretty friggin' awesome! Great atmosphere.
  24. I've been, too. Got the Sony twice and the Sammy thrice (and kept it). Two quite different beasts and hardly comparable imho. Would have loved to keep both, but couldn't afford it. In the end I ditched the Sony for the bad ergonomics, but I still believe it has the better IQ and more solid files (not to talk about low light even). Just for stills-like landscape shots the NX1 is better due to internal 4K and well, I enjoy shooting with it which with the Sony didn't work that well (except at night, NX1 is horrible in low light or for astro photography). I'll wait for the a7s II, but I just have major issues with Sony, don't believe in them usability and software wise.
