  1. Good lord, more useless NX1 chatter in a Fuji thread, aren't there NX1 threads for this? Fuji has speedboosters too. Let it go.

    Fuji has the NX1 beat, larger BSI sensors are noisy at higher ISO's, as we've seen with the A7r/A7rII.

    Enjoy your NX1 instead of trolling other threads telling everyone how great it is compared to the thread topic, its so tired and so pathetic.

    SSD can make a difference if editing lower-compression codecs like ProRes. In that case the I/O rate can be 8x or 10x the camera native rate -- for a single stream.   3. Geez, 4k is really unforgiving when it comes to blemishes and skin texture. I remember when my station went HD in the early 2000's, we had to make sure our makeup, hair and clothes were neat, otherwise viewers hammered us with comments about flaws. If broadcasting ever goes 4k, look out.

    I mostly shoot wide with people in the shot to minimize that, but I'm working on a  40" panel so pimples are huge with tight closeups.

  4. Something else I'm curious about, what if you wanted to shoot with a larger lens or a speedbooster and a big Nikon zoom? If the lens is on a tripod, can the X5r hang off the back or be rigged in some manner?

    Just thinking aloud. There's a doc project I'm thinking about doing which would involve a lot of landscape and cityscape aerials, but when shooting on the ground I would want to use the same camera and not be limited to the 4 or 5 supported lenses.

  5. I've watched a few reviews and haven't seen anything showing noise through the ISO range and rolling shutter since all of the shots are from a Inspire or on the Osmo. I really like what DJI did with the X5r and the whole Inspire/Osmo integration and such, its the price of the damn SSD's that kills it for me. That said, its an incredibly versatile production tool.

    Reading that post, so full of what we know now to be phony analysis of a lot of gear, takes the credibility of the entire forum down a notch. And his continued excuses are not surprising at all.

    Was wondering the same thing since all the photos he posted are with a crop Canon body and some DIY gear - if that's even him. If not that makes most of his posts complete bullshit. 

  8. The most baffling part about this drama is the amount of inconsistencies. The for sale ad was posted two months ago, and there have been dozens of posts in ES Sr's voice since, usually long winded about the CaNikon image - through all of the accounts he claims are hacked. It seems odd that he or any of the other Ebrahim's that use the accounts hadn't noticed someone was posting and communicating through PM's on their behalf, while simultaneously extolling the virtues of Clog color, the Nikon flat profile and so on. Typically when someone hacks/steals an account, they change the password so the original owner of the account is locked out and can't stop the fraudulent activities. The Ebrahim's and the scammer were both using the accounts at the same time. Really? Same goes for the scammer taking control of his Facebook account to post that "you've been scammed" reply, neither he or any of his friends noticed. Really?

    Looking forward to the blog post with Andrew's findings.

  9. @veraguth, everyone's needs are different, I can cover most events with a 35/85 and a UWA, problem for me is in most cases I'm using FF for stills and s35 for video. So I'm carrying aps-c and FF lenses. I don't want to buy another A7rII + grip because Sony bodies lose their value so fast and the a6300 is not made for the hot Florida sun, making an all aps-c kit impossible. I don't shoot long continuous takes, so the 10 minute limit without the grip is no big deal, but the grip is almost always on my a7rII, that cost is a wash. New lens prices are a non issue for me, I buy all my lenses used and Fuji's can be found for about 25% below new easily.

    Like I said, I shoot events with zooms, while the GM's are impressive, after dumping Canon I'm not going back to carrying that much weight for hours on end anymore. Again, this is my own thing, but I'm getting ready to take a year off to travel the globe with my wife, so a smaller kit with better JPEG options is appealing to me.

    Looking forward to overheating tests and rolling shutter results.

As an A7rII/A7s/a5100 owner I'm seriously considering the XT2 - mostly because Sony has completely abandoned APS-c outside of the a6xxx and a5xxx bodies and the new FF lenses are obnoxiously huge. It would help if E-mount had one decent standard zoom outside of the monster 24-70GM, the 24-70 and 16-70/4's are average at best with some copies being incredibly mediocre. There hasn't been a new crop lens in years, and since the FE line was introduced with the 35/55 combo there have only been two small FF lenses, the 28/2 and the crappy 50/1.8. Sony is chasing the top end and crazy margins on $1500+ lenses, I get it, they're out to make money and don't care about what anyone thinks as long as we're buying product. Yes you can shoot crop with FF lenses, but you're also paying for FF coverage and if you want larger apertures you're carrying more weight. 

    Its nice to see them producing high grade glass, but they're also all over the map. We have G, GM and Zeiss being released simultaneously in addition to the less special no name FE lenses. G used to be top grade, till is wasn't. Now its GM. Unless its Zeiss. Seriously - four different lens lines on a three year old system. Want to have the Zeiss look? Great as long as you only want to shoot 35 and 50, otherwise buy a G or a GM or a no-name. Sure adapted glass works, mostly, but that has its own issues and marquee AF features like eye AF still needs a native lens to really work. Then there's Sony's abysmal QC - despite getting a little certificate saying they pass inspection, decentering is common.

    At least with Fuji you get a consistent look across the board, have numerous options for fast/larger (though still pretty compact) F/1.2-1.4's lenses or smaller F/2-2.8's. All three constant aperture zooms are really good and the smaller 18-55/2.8-4 is also really good. I shoot stills and video at events on occasion so I use the UWA, standard and tele zooms a lot. I use Canon because they're so much better - and the FE 70-200/4 is really only a 70-170-ish compared to the Canon.

    I don't know, I love the image out of the A7rII, but I really don't like Sony's scatterbrained approach. At this point its IBIS and 4k internal that's really keeping me from moving on, the XT2 checks one of those boxes, stabilized lenses may check the other.

    Looking forward to tests from real shooters instead of Fuji honks so we can get a real look at what the camera can do. Better 4k rolling shutter performance could seal the deal for me.

    I live in Florida and the a6300's rampant overheating makes it a non-starter for me. If the damn thing could shoot 4k or just sit on my tripod in the sun without shutting down, I'd probably own two. Oh well...

    The other problem - from a video perspective - is that few Fuji sponsored shooters do anything on the video side. A vast majority of their beta testers are pretty much exclusively still shooters. I think there'd be a good chance of a FW update unlocking Flog internal after people outside the narrow group of beta testers start beating that drum.

    The Xt2 is certain to bring more video shooters into the Fuji camp, so there will be a shift in feedback.

    It looks like he didn't have a ND filter and bumped up the SS to compensate for bright conditions, but I've never been overly critical of motion. Others may have more insight.

    I've asked a few of the early testers to do a formal RS test and they've all had the same reply - they're waiting for a final video firmware update before posting more comprehensive video tests as Fuji is still tweaking things.

    RS doesn't look a6300 bad panning at the long end of the 50-140 with a teleconverter in the screen cap below, but more formal tests are definitely needed. With the grip boosting processor power, it'll be interesting to see if its performance is better than the a6300.

  14. Gordon Liang posted some SOOC 4k samples, moire doesn't look like its going to be an issue with the XT2. The lack of stabilized lenses OTOH. Would like to see this with the 18-55 with OIS instead of the non-OIS 16-55.

    All of the aps-c E mount bodies are plagued by overheating, I speak from experience as I've owned all of them since the Nex5, doesn't matter what it costs if it keeps shutting down mid shot. It's a fine tourist type camera, but it's incredibly unreliable as a workhorse 4k body, the A7rII can shoot all day without issue. Used a7rII bodies are in the $2500 range. 

    I'd own two a6300's if they didn't constantly shut down when shooting 4k, but that's just not the case. Maybe the XT2 doesn't suffer from the same problems with overheating, if so I'll give it a look.

    Wrong, with the runtime hack, the A7rII records until the battery dies or the card fills up. Overheating was solved long ago with a FW update, you can easily hit the 30 minute limit over and over till you run out of batteries or card space. That's something the a6300 will never be able to do. The a6300 will never have IBIS or DR of a larger sensor. Rolling shutter is much worse as well.

    If you're looking to go FF only, the A7sII is definitely the better choice. As mentioned the upper limit of FF on the RII is about 3200 before IQ degrades. The A7sII is clean a few stops beyond that.

    While its competent, the A7rII's AF is vastly superior, face detection can easily lock onto a subject and track their movement while the camera moves. The A7sII lacks PADF and can't track in the same manner. If you're primarily using AF lenses, the A7rII is a much better choice. I've shot them side-by-side when I was debating to go A7sII or my current setup with the A7rII & A7s, until you get into the -2 or -3 EV range, the A7rII AF is faster and more accurate. I shoot walk and talk stuff for a corporate client, where someone is moving around a building addressing the camera, I can lock a gimbal mounted A7rII onto a face and it stays locked so well, I rarely have to shoot more than one take because of focus issues. Once you get into really dark situations, the A7s hunts a lot less, but its slow. It is remarkably accurate though.

    Im waiting for the xt2 reviews cause since none of us held it we cant judge ergonomics or any of the physical components of the hardware. The fuji x lenses look sweet and I love what I've seen people do with em. I would've went fuji a lonnnnng time ago if their video didnt suck as much as it used too. The xpro2 was a great step up but now the xt2 is looking like the answer

    Not mad at all, but some NX1 users are beating a dead horse - literally. Just about everyone on the planet shopping for a new camera isn't looking at the NX1 - and if they were, they wouldn't be looking in a thread about a Fuji camera. Despite its hardware, lots of people passed on the NX1 in favor of other ecosystems. There's more to a camera than great processing and a good sensor - that's where Fuji has succeeded and where Samsung failed. Enjoy your camera.

    Owned the NX1, outside of the S zooms, the rest are mediocre, the pancakes are especially dreadful if you want to MF, no BB AF either - a basic staple of just about any decent camera including the most basic Canon Rebel from 2003. Fuji's lens selection is vastly superior - and its what attracts many shooters to the X-mount. Samsung's are a joke in comparison.

    Nobody shopping Fuji cares about a dead system with a limited lens selection. Fuji's ergos, exposure controls on the body, the MF clutch mechanism and actual aperture rings are miles better than the NX1.

    Let it go, its a Fuji discussion, nobody cares about your precious NX1.
