As a side note, even though the chip may operate at 95C, whatever plastic components on the body in proximity would not fair so well...

Nope. I do however have an R5. My intended usage is shooting stills, and for that it’s one of the greatest cameras Canon has ever made. The fact that it can record any video at is a bonus.

    I differ in opinion.
If I where using it as designed, yes. The fact of the matter is that canon disclosed up front that there are recording limits. They can not anticipate every single usage scenario, so provided generic guidelines.. it’s not realistic to expect them to know how every single user is going to use their camera.
I’ll answer with a question: do you find yourself implicitly trusting every advertisement you see? I don’t and I seriously doubt that you do.

There is a Sigma Fp review on YouTube by you know who... "This camera is TERRIBLE"
It is an absolute travesty of justice that it has 105k views whereas Sigma's short film has less than 3000.

It is exactly for this reason I am so reluctant to put any effort into YouTube content myself. I can't compete with all the bullshit.
You have to feel sorry for the director. I think Films are better off in the cinema.
"Sin sin" was going to Cannes before the coronavirus hit.
    Better to rise above.
I am proud of my written reviews. Don't care if it's a niche, or if I'm an outsider! Been doing them for 10 years. Why give that up and basically go on a TV shopping channel? My 1D X III YouTube review has about 2000 views - was a complete waste of time
I'd have to embrace advertising and tacky merchandise to make YouTube work financially. And if it worked I'd get a big ego. Besides, it's a real grind and work rate is atrocious - I am not willing to become part of the YouTuber-manager-orchestrated-circle-jerk of established YouTube celebrities.

Well said Andrew. Brilliant review. I so hope everyone gets behind Sigma on this product and their vision. Andrew, I think a review on youtube would really help as there is a current dearth of good reviews out there. Camera hasn't been hyped at all on youtube (some might say that is a blessing).

    You're welcome.
Yup, exactly - you need to insert an Allen key and then just turn it.
That's why Cineluxes are pain to double focus, BUT once you get a variable diopter, they quickly become one of the best anamorphic adapters available (well, at leas to my taste).

In regards to the new offering from Fuji, I submit a prediction:

    Rolling shutter.

    That is all.

This will be a short part 1, as I am about to get on my way from Berlin to Cologne to see all the new stuff at Photokina for myself! It's been a mammoth few weeks for camera announcements and these two top them all.
First from Panasonic we have the first ever full frame cameras to shoot 4K/60p, beating Sony to the punch. Their A7S III is STILL not yet announced. The Panasonic S1 and S1R are probably why! For video they beat every full frame camera past, present and future!
Second we have the Fujifilm GFX 100MP development announcement, which will be a 2019 $10,000 medium format mirrorless camera. They also have a cheaper 50R "rangefinder" style GFX body at the show ($4500) but that is 1080p only like the GFX 50S it's based on. It is the 100 megapixel one I am really interested in.

arant.joseph reacted to Simon Shasha in Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
Not sure why anyone cares - for video, anyway.
Compared to the Blackmagic Pocket 4K, any mirrorless, full-frame or otherwise, from Panasonic/Nikon/Canon/Sony looks like/will look like s**t.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Canon slapped a 8-bit 4:2:0 codec in their $7,500 C200.. no way they're going 10-bit on their entry MILC. That's not the Canon way.

480Mbit is similar to MJPEG. It's inefficient. Per frame, no quality increase over the 120Mbit IPB.

NX1 is actually more advanced with H.265, 6K readout, 1080/120fps and it is 5 years old.

Nikon Z7 has it for breakfast.
About the only improvement over the 5D Mark IV seems to be substituting MJPEG for H.264. Not that it was overdue or anything!
    https://www.eoshd.com/2018/09/here-are-the-official-video-specs-of-the-canon-eos-r-full-frame-mirrorless/
About only thing I can hope for is that the 4K is somehow full frame and not a crop but I honestly just think it is a 5D Mark IV in a mirrorless body, looking at the specs sheet, rather than anything really new.

It could be said that mirrorless cameras don't actually cannibalize pro video camera sales. Sony don't seem to think so. Neither do Panasonic. Canon clearly has a different opinion. But if you look at their Cinema EOS cameras at the moment, they're not even that hot either. I think Canon is behaving tired, almost. Depressed, even. They need new top-management. The current bunch are just too elderly and too risk averse to truly allow creative freedom across each product line.

arant.joseph reacted to Andrew Reid in EOS R official video specs discussion
That's the thing. We're paying for FULL FRAME lenses. A very nice one, in the case of that groundbreaking 28-70mm F2.0 (Although I am 99% sure Sigma is working on one as well, for EF, Nikon and Sony E mount).
What's the point if we can't use them? May as well put a Speed Booster on it and use something else.
Do Canon want to sell their mirrorless lenses, or not?
I really thought the high-end full frame mirrorless would be when they woke up to what modern video users need. Apparently not. They are still more interested in segmenting the stills and video market with a big wall.
Who is going to want to shoot 1.75x crop (worse if you calculate diagonal as well), with no IBIS, on a $2k+ zoom that has no wide angle end? Especially when you can choose a Nikon Z7, Z6, A7 III, A7R III or wait for the upcoming Panasonic monster cam.

arant.joseph got a reaction from Jim Chang in Anamorphic Base Lens Help Needed!
Hello everyone.  I just purchase my first anamorphic lens, and I need help with the best base lens for the job.  First here is my gear:
    - Schneider Kreuznach 2x anamorphic lens
    - VidAtlantic adaptor
    -Diopter
    -Nikon d750
Notice I havent included a base lens.  Since the d750 shoots in fx or dx modes, I am torn between a 50mm lens purchase vs a 85mm lens purchase.  Furthermore, whenever I see these anamorphic setups, the base lens always seems to be an older model (I.e. manual focus and aperture control).  Is there any reason the newest models couldn't be used?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.  P.S. I will be doing photography as well as film with this setup.
