@Terry Lee it all depends on the lens. The only thing that changes is the resolution reduction of the filter not the strength of the bloom. I usually do 1-2

Zeiss Batis 25mm f2 w/ tiffen pearlescent the roll off between the darker portions of the image into the highlights is beautiful. Makes good use of the measly 8bits I have to work with ?

@Ricardo Constantino thanks man ! Like @Cinegain & @Gregormannschaft said check out the tiffen line of diffusion on their site. Check my vimeo I primarily shoot with diffusion filtration. @Cinegain I think a lot of people would benefit from the tiffen ultra contrast cause it lifts the shadows and thats pretty much what most of us need. Im going to experiment w/ shooting slog2 and a tiffen ultra contrast to lift the shadows closer to the midtone ranfe where there is more data For those wondering I prefer tiffen newest line of diffusion 1) tiffen black satin 2) tiffen satin & 3) tiffen pearlescent I primarily use the black satin for commercial work where I don’t want the diffusion to be obvious or for talent that has lighter complexion. I use the tiffen satin for high key work or if the talent has a dark complexion. The pearlescent is when I want a heavy handed diffused look. Ironically the tiffen pearlescent still looks contrasty but the highlights and bright colors have a glow to them. Works great when shooting log. There’s nothing wrong with the older diffusion filters but I would get them in a very light grade. They tend to flare a lot if your exposure is to the right of the histogram. All in all I think they are essential to retaining some of the characteristics of film on digital bodies i.e. halation & subdued high frequency detail

@PannySVHS I think all the panasonic lenses add digital sharpening but I notice even on -5 with a vintage lens there is still in cam sharpening. I think panasonic adds sharpening depending on how much correction the lens needs. I set my sharpening to -3 and havent experienced any problems

Lumix 12mm f1.4 w/ tiffen pearlescent filter. God I love this lens. Shot in Panasonic G85 “natural” profile
  7. I shot some stuff with the g85 and the Lumix 12mm f1.4 last week just thought I’d share. The first one is SOOC and the other is with the Impulz lut’s. sidenote im over grading with LUTS but I posted the two versions to show how the camera handles traditional workflows
  8. @scotchtape I get paid to shoot too and literally never ran into an overheating issue with the a6500. To each his own though, maybe I have a damn good copy. I know this for a fact though “pro” camera or not you can get a far better image out of the a6500 than the gh5 sensor. Its a bigger sensor, with wider dynamic range & a far lower noise floor. Anyway to the original poster. Get the G85. The image is solid and the ergonomics is great.
  9. Wrong. @scotchtape do you own any of these cameras because the a6500 definitely does not overheat unless you are shooting in a furnance. anyway @Givememypips the g85 has been the best overall camera for my usage and I own an a6500 as well. Both are good but the g85 is more reliable across the board
  10. @Don Kotlos that is a genius idea ! If we can load our own LUTs as the PP that is a pure 14bit to 8bit conversion. I wish a panasonic or sony rep stumbled upon this thread lol. As far as the Sony PP I agree, it adds a tremendous amount of control to the image. Right now I am using a custom itu709 matrix color with cine1,3 & 4 for highlight, midtone or shadow priority. The increase in color fidelity over shooting in SLOG is amazing and only requires a simple curve in post. This is another reason why I think 8 bit is more than sufficient if done right
  11. @Matthew Hartman honestly bro thats the way to go. Scale back, trust me. It’s good that you are trying to future proof your content (so am I) but these gear reviews will make you think what you have is obsolete. A friend of mine told me “you really think what you have sucks because something new came out ?” that made me feel silly as hell ? I have a LUT for this a LUT for that and it all becomes overwhelming. Now I shifted my focus to treating my camera like “film stock”. I use the picture profile that brings consistent results without tweaking and get as close to the final product as possible. Now when I grade I just need to make minor adjustments to an image and I get the same result with less steps in between. Scale back and focus on technique and watch how much better your work is going to look. Trust me
  12. Like duh ! Lmao And they’ll still say it’s not cinematic enough even though thats a f1.8 ff equivalent lens. They’ll go full frame and buy a 50mm f1.8 and claim how much more cinematic it is when its the same exact focal length equivalency ??‍♂️?? there should be more emphasis on technique these days, it will save people a lot of time & $ all this new tech is great but without technique these cameras will perform below user expectations
  13. I think netflix requirements is a quality control thing. They are future proofing all of their content. Besides would you really want to shoot something for netflix without something high end and a team of people for post production? I wouldn’t worry about these things if you shoot for youtube or vimeo like most of us do. Personally my focus right now is building my lens collection over focusing on new cameras and camera technology. In my opinion a lens makes a bigger difference. 10 bit from a crap lens is going to look worse than 8 bit from a lens with exceptional color and contrast. All cameras process their image from a 12-14 bit raw image processor. It’s best to have your cameras settings set to get as close to the final image as possible to take advantage of the 14 bit processing before compression @Matthew Hartman
  14. Tbh Casey could use a Canon 70d and it wouldn’t matter. His strength is in the format of his editing. He has a vloggers pacing to his video because well...he’s a vlogger not a director of photography. I think Casey represents the vlogger market & these companies know the vlog community is bigger than the filmmaking community. Consumers are going crazy picking up enthusiast to high end cameras to stand out on youtube. I personally wouldn’t pay much attention to what he’s using. anyone that complains that micro 4/3 isn’t cinematic enough obviously hasn’t witnessed the deep depth of field techniques used in movies like Citizen Kane. Or they don’t know you can easily get shallow depth of field from close focusing lenses or merely composing the image correctly. Moral of the story if you plan on shooting anything other than a youtube vlog ignore Casey
  15. @Matthew Hartman you are good with your NX1 bro. The thing about our cameras people are overlooking is that the single gets converted and compressed from a 12-14 bit source ! The camera then as you know changes it to the 8bit file we see. Most displays are 8 bit srgb and some dont even cover the full srgb color gamut. Most real world colors with the exception of neon light falls within the srgb color gamut. The 10 bit of data is for HEAVY grading like vfx work and stuff.
  16. @jonpais its a huge mystery. HDR10, HLG , DOLBY VISION...they need to settle on a standard. We are just now getting fully compliant with rec709 standards. I hope it doesn’t take manufacturers as long as it did with rec709 to crossover to hdr and settle on a standard
  17. Agreed. We should be given the option to totally disable these features by now. Disabling these would bring us closer to a pure image
  18. I loved this. It debunked alot of the 10bit myths

I use it with a g85 ! It’s very sharp and the colors have a very unique rendering to it. Honestly it’s extremely good IQ wise you just have to make sure its a focal length you like @Rinad Amir
  20. @Dustin get the nikon version its a dummy adapter. I spoke to a couple of camera repairmen that some lens + body + metabones adapters with electrical contacts have shorted out the camera bodies they repair.

I figured I’d pick up an autofocus lens since its all the rage these days lol zeiss batis 25 f2 ! Super sharp and the af is a dream. Oh and that famous zeiss 3D pop is there...BIG time
  23. @Mattias Burling hopefully he doesn’t try to sell someone his “gh5” ?
  24. The lens lineup Olympus is promoting right now is savage. The quality of these images and the sheer diversity of the lenses Olympus has to offer right now is making their glass look hard to overlook. Is Olympus on it's way to being the de facto high end micro 4/3rds lens manufacturer ? I'll let you be the judge of that. http://cameras.olympus.com/zuiko/en/lens-gallery/
