  1. I am guessing Jimmy that it was too newly developed to go in the A7r mk2, and they didn't want to hold back the release of that product. I bet the A7r mk3 next year will have it... ;-)
  2. Video is nothing of note, just shows some people making a nuisance of themselves protesting. Adds nothing to their case in informing us if they're right or wrong about their claims.
  3. Not changing my mind here on B&H, still will be shopping there! As odds are this is just another media beat up anyway.
  4. Get XQD cards instead and use in a SxS adapter, cheaper and you're future proofing yourself. And yup, much better deal than a C300 mk2!
  5. manilo, you can get focal reducers for a mere hundred bucks or so. (if you're going for Nikon F mount, rather than pricey Canon EF) When it comes to stills performances, GH4 is more than capable for the typical non-pro. And for stills (as well as obviously video) it will be a step forward over your current 600D.
  6. This deal: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?340888-NEW-Sony-F5-Bundle-Includes-a7SII-Body-Viewfinder-Shoulder-Pad-amp-More I guess the competition has forced its price down sharply, both the internal competition from Sony (FS7/FS5) and the external competition (Canon/RED/BMD).
  7. Yup, I feel very similar about the URSA Mini 4.6K vs FS5/FS7/F5 debate (seen the newest deal on the F5? wow) Heart says BMD, brains says Sony. Anyway, I am no rush. I can wait until well into 2016 until my next major camera purchase
  8. I thought a recent firmware update for the NX1 allowed it to automatically restart every 30 minutes?
  9. I really like the RodeLinks I got, only notable downside is they're kinda bulky ish.
  10. Nah! Recommending buying a T5i is a far far greater crime. And like the other guy said, not everybody is comfortable buying second hand. Unfortunate, but true. But for them, it can make sense paying new prices then for a G6 / A6000 / NX500 / whatever.

    Hourly charge

I've done a 27hr and 25hr day in the past week, though in each case it was because of two separate jobs being done in the same day back to back (a normal day work from pre dawn, plus afterwards an all night shoot! x2)
  12. Sweet, you're in the same boat as me then! ;-) I think I might have told you this already in another forum somewhere.... but another tip is get SxS / SD adapters, as SxS cards are very very pricey! But the adapters are dirt cheap, and we all have a few SD cards lying about already :-D Presto, cheap recording in the F3! :-D All I need now is an Atomos Samurai Blade to complete it :-D (I think.... holding my breath to see these BMD Video Assist reviews first)

Wish I'm on that "low end".... !
  14. I went to their in person workshop recently, and on the basis of that (it greatly impressed me) signed up to MUSE as well.
  15. The OSEE monitor looks tempting for grading with: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?131971-First-Look-OSEE-15-6-quot-10-bit-Production-Monitor
  16. Underneath the PL mount there is the Sony FZ mount. Think of it kinda like the Sony E mount, giving you the freedom to adapt ANYTHING to it!! :-D Except, think of FZ as the grownup big brother professional version of the E mount which is for consumer stills cameras instead. Personally I'm using my Nikon lenses on my F3 with a cheap F mount adapter (it doesn't feel like adapting onto an E mount camera, but like a native mount F mount camera instead. Though without electronics). But sometime in the future, I'll probably get a positive locking F mount adapter (but they're pricey) and/or PL lenses as well so I can use my PL mount as well on the F3.
  17. Wrong, wrong, wrong. BMD's ProRes 4K is coming down from entire 4.6K sensor (only raw 4K would be a cropped portion). That is very sad news that they tried but couldn't achieve a m4/3 mount! As that would've been so much better than Canon EF :-( Where did you read that they experimented with using m4/3 mount?
  18. Ebrahim, DRAT....... !!! If all of that is true, and they're not going to commit to a new firmware fixing this to come within the next few weeks, I reckon that kills the Video Assist as a viable option for me in 2015 :-( (maybe in 2016/2017.... once they've sorted out the software) Atomos Samurai Blade it is for me!! Bonus of HDMI and 60fps FHD is all I'll be missing out on.
  19. Yup Paul, that and the slightly higher resolution plus HDMI are the only advantages it has I reckon. Atomos would have better software, cheaper media, and full size SDI
  20. $350??? Where, as that doesn't sound right.
  21. Best news I've read all day! The BMD Video Assist is shipping now. Very keen to see a head to head comparison vs the Atomos Samurai Blade which is also US$495 (am using a Ninja 2 right now on a music video shoot with a Sony F3. It is nice, aside from the low resolution screen and no SDI)
  22. Slow motion. Weather proofed body. Headphone jack. Unlimited recording length. These are all very solid reasons why (and I'm sure I'm missing a few, such as does the G7 have live HDMI out now? Sadly my G6 lacks it) as to why a person would get a GH4 over a G7, beyond simply the obvious YAGH and V log reasons. Though yeah, I can totally see why some people would prefer buying the G7 over the GH4. Just like how I personally feel the G6 is a stronger camera to buy than the GH3!
  23. Ah my bad, I mixed up for a moment in my head RED Raven's 4K 120fps thinking that is it at HD and same as URSA Mini. When if it was just that, clearly URSA Mini is better with less compression I updated my blog post on it to instead read: "j) URSA Mini doesn’t have the very heavy 13:1 compression in slow motion that the RED Raven has, instead is lossless raw from the URSA Mini." So I'm still listing it as a benefit of the URSA Mini over the Raven, just from the perspective of quality rather than max FPS. (thought it is raw? Which is why it is windowed. Though if you see evidence otherwise, please let me know. Although, even ProRes HQ should still be better than 13:1 RedCode compression??) http://ironfilm.co.nz/red-raven-or-ursa-mini-4-6k/
  24. RED Raven or URSA Mini 4.6K? Which to go for if their body price is the same & you could pick either? (which they're not! URSA Mini is clearly going to be many thousands cheaper to own) Clearly the URSA Mini comes out the winner here, as I don't think the Raven is better specced. URSA Mini is: a) has 4K ProRes (Raven doesn't) b) has XLR inputs c) better ergonomics d) global shutter option e) sensor size which is a better match for the Canon EF mount (URSA Mini is a little larger than APS-C vs GH2 sized for the Raven) f) as well as PL/B4 (and more??) mount options available instead g) cheaper media (and rapidly getting cheaper!! You won't see the same rate of price drops happen with RED's media) h) I half suspect URSA Mini will have the edge over Raven in low light (though not by a huge amount,. a stop or less). I suspect dynamic range to be close too, given how RED overstates theirs. Will have to wait for each to ship however before this can be really clear which way it falls. i) way cheaper EVF (and better too I reckon) j) better slow motion (same fps, but Raven's is heavily compressed RedCode at 13:1 while the BMD URSA Mini can do it in uncompressed raw!) k) better input/output options. l) BMD wins with the higher resolution (ironically so.... as that is RED's big obsession, resolution) m) free copy of the industry standard DaVinci Resolve (which you'll need to purchase if you wish to colour grade Raven's footage with it) n) and last but not least.... URSA Mini will ship earlier!! (yes, even with BMD's record of always being late) Of course the usual caveats apply with this analysis: nobody has either of these in their hands yet, so specs analysis vs real world use might be far apart!
