  1. Not in early 2000's!! Heck, not even today in 2018 do many big blockbuster hollywood films use 8K at all Great lighting / art direction / framing / camera movement / etc Doesn't surprise me, as a top end cinema camera package (with lenses etc) could reach a similar kind of figure.
  2. Wait, whaaaat... there is even more recent controversy around Logan Paul?
  3. Entry level "Feeder models" are essential to the future of the MFT system. Without new blood coming in, there will be fewer people to buy the GHx releases of the future.
  4. For a second there I was confused why you were referring to Hillary as President..... :-o #TimeTraveler #AlternativeUniverses
  5. Would be surprised if there is another stills camera with full size HDMI released this year (other than the GH series, which has already happened). But one can keep on hoping! :-)
  6. Have a friend who shoots a lot (and I mean *A LOT*) of real estate videos, like yourself. And he is absolutely 110% obsessed with workflow from start to finish to maximize efficiencies every day. Initially starting out with a Canon 60D, then for the last year or so shooting with a Sony a7Smk2, but I'm fairly sure he doesn't even use s-log. He is in and out super fast, and pumps out the videos edited that same evening very fast too. Probably even the mere idea of ML raw he'd laugh at! And I'd agree, I reckon if you're getting less than a grand per video you shouldn't even be thinking about it. Focus on effeciencies and speed of turn around instead. Maybe once every fifty houses you might come across a house which makes you go "wow, this would look really good showcased on my website!" Then sure, slow down a little, think about it more, take a bit more time to really give it the royal treatment. But no need to buy completely different gear for that. (as tempting as it might be to get sucked down the G.A.S. hole....)
  7. Yes, but if you've done the development around a new sensor, it makes sense to leverage that and reuse it in another product. So I'd give decent odds that could be happening? Fool us once.... fool us twice?
  8. I'm wildly guessing this is linked to the new RED smartphone. Probably using the same sensor?
  9. This is the problem with *ALL* cameras. Are the videos from a Panasonic G7 / Nikon D5500 / BMD Micro Cinema Camera / Sony RX100mk4 / etc "bad" because it is a bad camera or because the people are newbies with a very limited budget? Are the videos from a Sony F35 / Panasonic Varicam LT / Canon C300 mk2 / RED Weapon / etc "amazing" because the shooter (and everyone else on his team) are talented and experienced people with a large production budget? In the end the answer is: a little from colum A, a little from column B. Only solution is trying it out yourself, or having very controlled shout outs. Or just simply reading as much as you can about everything, while taking it all in with a big grain of salt.
  10. Ah the day was pretty easy for me, as I spent the whole time at just one location!
  11. Are you flying two drones at once?? :-o Or is the Mavic there as your back up should anything go wrong with the P4P
  12. As you own a D750, and if you're shooting non-professionally (as if you're doing it professionally then the maths is different), then I'd stick with the D750 for at least another year or two? You've got a good camera there! But seems perhaps you do shoot professionally it seems? What kind of interiors / architecture, high end stuff? Or high volume real estate? As if it is the latter, then I'd avoid any form of ML raw like the plague!
  13. Decide yourself? Shot with a Sony CineAlta HDW-F900, which has 3x CCD chips of 1920x1080 (one for each of RGB). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/633399-REG/Sony_HDWF900RPAC1D_HDW_F900R_CineAlta_24P_HDCAM.html Very weirdly enough, you can still buy it??? (well, the "R" version, which is very similar) For a sweet $80K Or you could just buy it secondhand, right now for around $1K or $2K for the body: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=sony f900r&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=4&_trksid=p2045573.m1684 The non-R original version you might even find for sub $1K Lots and lots of films have been shot on it (for instance "Quantum of Solace" had part of it shot on a Sony HDW-F900R, and that film came out in 2008. Or "Four Lions" which came out in 2010): https://shotonwhat.com/cameras/sony-hdw-f900-camera Some other discussions on it: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?330231-Sony-hdw-f900-Today http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?7478-How-does-RED-One-compare-with-Sony-HDW-F900 https://www.redsharknews.com/technology/item/2990-how-george-lucas-pioneered-the-use-of-digital-video-in-feature-films-with-the-sony-hdw-f900
  14. My general feeling is we long ago got to the "good enough point" for stills but still have work to do to get film quality in DSLRs/mirrorless to that similar point.
  15. That was cool. Spotted a GH5 with a 100-300mm!
  16. Nah, it hasn't been. Probably because no one here has any interesting in the 1" 4K sensor from their Studio cameras.
  17. A person could just as easily say the GH5 is way ahead in specs and features for video, and close enough for stills ;-)
  18. Maybe he is mixing it up, but yeah I thought he owned those too. Will also cost much more than a GH5 / GH5S will, maybe even double as much! Plus there has to be a solid 20% chance that if the C100mk3 comes out early this year it won't even have 4K! :-P Ha Well I was never going to buy a GH5S I think (at least not this year, maybe in a year or two when the price drops down). On this topic kinda, in a couple of week's time am starting a feature film which will have a GH5 as C cam (A & B cam are a RED ONE). Oh and this weekend am working on another short film with a GH5.
  19. Because a much much greater proportion of GH5S users would want it than GH5 owners
  20. If you're wanting to maximise your bang for buck, then consider the older Sony X70 secondhand as well 4/3" not 3/4"
  21. Well the C300mk2 dropped from $16K to 10K in a relatively short span, that is over a third. That is "natural price reduction"? Fast than normal? Yes! But still within the realms of "natural". Anyway.... it is pretty subjective here, just a personal matter of perspective. (wellll.... unless someone wishes to plot data from all camera prices to see if the BMPCC is over 3 standard deviations away)
  22. Hope Panasonic does a firmware update to fix their timecode implementation. As it is true, the GH5S is indeed majorly flawed :-(
  23. I guess my point is they kinda feel like a "natural price reduction", products often get cheaper over their life cycle. (some have even more radical price drops! For instance the F3 was around $30K originally?! When I purchased mine secondhand I remember new prices had fallen to around US$6K) But the 1/2 price BMPCC sale was out of left field and was kinda an "unnatural" drop.
  24. Not sure if that counts as a "radical" price cut? Even Canon has done that :-P That was only in the UK however, so I wasn't really counting that, but it does give you hope there could be 50% off sale for the EF version and more worldwide
