  1. You called it! Sold for just a hair under $2K Yeah... but that is PL Mount :-/ Meaning expensive PL lenses! Rather avoid that, and use my quite large collection of lenses I have at the moment. Pity the BMPCC is the only one which got a radical half price sale, and even that was a long long time ago now.
  2. As the highest dynamic range should be at base ISO, but I was wondering just how bad the hit is? (as sometimes you might want to make that trade off, rather than juggle other variables) I'm also curious to hear other people's thoughts about video mode (Rec709) vs film mode (log)? (obviously I'm referring to in a flavour of ProRes, not raw)
  3. I'll admit at the Indian Wedding I was filming tonight I was kinda wishing I had a C300 with DPAF rather than my F3 with a Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 Nikon F mount lens. Was tough initially! But with practice it got easy, I'm probably also rather rusty having not done weddings in a while since last season (and even then I only did a few). Having a better monitor would have helped too! I was just using the LCD on the F3 itself.
  4. I saw today a Tokina 16-50 go for nearly 200, I was bidding on it... until I felt I got "too expensive"! :-P ha
  5. Hope he grills him hard (but Casey won't...) on demonetisation of YouTube video, also how YouTube is hiding and removing many videos (particularly obnoxious is how heavy handed YouTube is with copyright "violations", fair use isn't getting a fair chance at all!). https://torrentfreak.com/musicians-white-noise-youtube-video-hit-with-copyright-complaints-180105/ Unbelievably fvcked up enforcement of "copyright" by YouTube! It is way waaaaaaaaay too unbalanced at the moment, in the hands of the so called "copyright holders" rather than the power being in the users themselves.
  6. I am guessing even indoors it was freezing cold that far up north where he was staying? Every episode of IT Crowd was gold, but that episode was extra memorable: Although for a little back story:

    NX2 rumors

It is CRAZY the many pies Samsung has fingers in, like TANKS:
  8. Did they only just start shipping that? I thought they shipped late last year.
  9. At least they're "trying"? And ahead of Canon! :-P (for some people)
  10. I only have a cheap Feelworld FW759 at the moment (plus my Atomos recorder. I'll be using both tonight at a wedding). So wouldn't be adding many to my "collection". Am kinda ok with that Feelworld, just would like one smaller and newer. And because videography isn't my main focus now, I want to spend the least possible and in no rush so might wait and see what happens next (NAB 2018?).

This is why I feel it is a damn pity that Sony never updated the a5100 in years. Also I hope Panasonic doesn't forget about the low end GF series, and they don't push the G series too high end (the G9 is bloody expensive! Maybe a cheap "G900" is needed?).
  12. Playing devil's advocate, I'm sure Sound Devices would argue in favor with things like: better build quality, arguably better design (physical buttons vs touch screen being better for extreme cold, wet weather, etc), better audio inputs, etc would justify the small price gap. I'm pretty tempted by the Feelworld F6 at the moment, which is even cheaper, sub US$200! But also kinda considering holding out to see if Aputure makes a 5" monitor. No rush, I can wait.
  13. That seems close enough? I'm sure Video Devices believes the price difference is justified.
  14. Yeah 35mm is a tricky focal length as a sole lens to use on MFT :-/
  15. The scary fact is that half the population is dumber than average! :-o
  16. But when you compare to other 4K recorder/monitors then the price isn't too far off?
  17. This is a pretty compact manual focus lens for MFT (cheap too!): https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1383714-REG/opteka_optm3517m43_35mm_f1_7_high_definition.html The 50mm looks pretty small too? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1383719-REG/opteka_optm5020m43_50mm_f2_0_high_definition.html And this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1387945-REG/7artisans_photoelectric_7a35f12bkm43_35mm_f1_2_aps_c_for.html
  18. Ah that sucks. I've had a few ones lined up myself over the last couple of years or so, never had a falling out, but something or another comes up preventing it (budget often!). I'm not too bothered though, moved on to focus on sound recording instead. Done sound for a full feature, and parts on others, got another lined up in a few weeks' time but not so sure again about doing it (again, budget! Bit low....).
  19. 645 original is dirt cheap secondhand so if a person wants to try film it is a good idea Pentax in the digital era has always had the cheapest medium format cameras. Thus is appealing purely on that point alone. & they're good cameras too, Philip Bloom is os a big fan of the Pentax 645Z That just illustrates how DSLR stills performance has hit a plateau for many people A Nikon D5200 (& sometimes a D90!! :-o ) is my main stills camera
  20. Good news / bad news: Hi, it's the SSD module. And I'm sorry but we would be uncomfortable declaring a lesser value than what it sells for. Happy bidding!
  21. Not even with a few strategically placed O rings? Another factor, is some dead cats are designed to work on top of the foamie or and others have it built in. Perhaps yours is the first kind? If so then keep the foamie on underneath it while putting it on otherwise it will be waaaay too loose
  22. Nah, but in the context of 4K recorders that seems quite affordable. Paired with a $1.5K FS700, that is an impressive value 4K camera! Heck, very recently it was normal for HD recorders to sell for that or more!!
  23. Although hey, in return I'll share this cheap Lectrosonics pair which is about to end: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lectrosonics-UCR201UM200C-Wireless-Professional-Microphone/202209140782? Bet a person could get this for the no reserve price. (note: it is block 26, this is fine for me, but might not be so for your city, so check first)
  24. Yup, am watching it already but taxes and shipping would kill it for me :-/ Also, ssssssshhhhhhh....... don't post links here! ;-) Sharing it will lift the price too high! :-P
  25. "Gaffer tape" is the answer to any question asked ever. Edit: Ok, I might take this a little more seriously and give a longer answer: If the gaffer tape over the opening end of the deadcat doesn't keep it firmly in place to stop the deadcat slipping around, then try putting a few (3? 5?) O rings along the length of the VMP before pulling on the deadcat, this could increase the apparent diameter of the mic within the deadcat leading to a firm fit.
